Hi guys
I am ramin 21 years old and really love concept art , i was drawing when i was a kid but after when i got to school i stopped drawing , last year i fall in love with concept art , i started to save money for a good tablet and after one year i got my tablet and started my drawings , I am working pen and paper to learn anatomy and work on tablet to do lots of drawings after this i will send my drawings in here and i hope you tell me your suggestions and comment to posts .

Ps. i use wacom cintiq 12 and photoshop cs 5

Hey nice start
I would suggest starting with the basics such as getting a square or a sphere and drawing it with pencil or tablet for value and lighting practice, try doing as many shapes as possible to understand form better too.
I would suggest studying both environments and characters if your not sure right now what you want, start by doing anatomy studies picking books of Andrew Loomis and George bridgeman or hogarth, do lots of photo studies for environments.
You'll get better the more you practice, good luck

I second the loomis books! and starting with gesture drawings-- you're at a good start, just keep at it! i would say get good with a pencil before you go digital though. a lot of people make the mistake of going straight to digital and they never get the foundation of traditional media that they need.

take some paper and go out
just draw the thing u see then
take a few anatomy books and go
crazy with them. hell dude im working
as a concept artist now and i still didn't
change my old 30 $ tablet( not 300$XD)
so just practice practice every day

going to tell u the same . start traditional
learn the basic and then go digital . and

MrWhiskey and Erotopia's i dont let my pen and paper down , its strange i really love digital drawing but its very clear to me first i need to become good in pen and paper , acutely those books you told me are so hard for me to understand , my English is not that good , but i am working on some anatomy video tutorials acutely they are 10 anatomy DVD witch takes at list more than 400 days to understand anatomy and 200 days to become good at it . i am a little shy to show my pen and paper works , i dont now why , maybe later i put them in here after i become better . dear Danny_K i will take your advice and try more shapes and objects to draw and understand .

i draw this from anatomy book and it took 3 days work . maybe 20 hours . i was looking at book and then work on tablet , this was first thing i did on tablet first day i got it.

That's good to hear. Do not worry about being perfect, we are all here to learn, but please make sure that you also have fun drawing. Studies can become tedious if you let them. If you want to use your tablet as well, do. The best advice I can give is just experiment and see how things work - don't overdo the custom brushes. There are loads of tutorials on PhotoShop on Youtube if you need extra help.

Cross hatching should follow the contours of the object or go directly against it. You're just filling in space at the moment. Take your time and think before making marks.

Hey there! Good to see that you're trying hard! I have to agree with the beforehand users. Keep at the anatomy sketches. When drawing the gestures, don't just fill in the bodies with straight lines- try to capture the form, every curve, every line that makes it up. I'm not telling you to get super detailed, but just get enough down to create the form.

Also, regarding the old man study, don't just scribble in the hair, try and follow the hair's pattern and flow.

I did a bit of it as you asked. The picture is a difficult one for a beginner to do, Next time choose one with harder lighting and less hair.

As you can see the lines are thin and close together (I did start a bit thick). The closer they are the darker the effect. When crossing the first lines, you will make the area even darker. Where you want the shading to fade, use a dotted line.

Featheredface's thanks for your suggestions and encouragement .as you mentioned its important to draw poses and knowing the anatomy , actually i am working on anatomy and poses on pen and paper and i am almost out paper because i have draw a lot , later i will scan or take some pictures and put them here to ask you guys guidance , about the hair i will try to follow the hair's pattern and flow .

Black Spot its an amazing job you have done , thanks , i get what you are talking about , i think i need a lot of time to become good at it , and its better to dont start with contour lines i think , what do you think about that ?

If you're doing it digitally, you can have the contour lines on another layer. With ink you use pencil and rub it out later.

i use just brush and not pencil in photoshop because i didn't know if you are talking about pen and paper or digital drawing , do i need to use pencil and then rub in photoshop ? please explain . this time really tried to draw this one good , it tool 4 hours to draw . thanks for your kind attentions .

It's great to see that you have such a good work ethic! Please post some of your pencil drawings and studies. Digital is usually a hard medium to start with if you are a beginner, you would probably benefit by just working with a pad and paper first.
anyway, I think you are having a few issues drawing what you see. Drawing isn't just hand eye coordination, it's also about looking at the object you are trying to draw correctly.

I agree with all the posts about practicing with plain old pencil and paper as often as you can. You can use the tablet as well, but don't let it take over your traditional stuff. I'm a beginner as well and i've decided to do still life studies because they help you a lot of lighting, values, composition etc. and i think its good to supplement that with your anatomy studies... well I hope my advice was good

good work, showing some progess seeing some form come through on the blackboy. I think you should try drawing over a photo, with pen and paper or your tablet it don't matter which, just lines going across a face. But try to imagine your drawing on an actual face. It'll help get you thinking about form.

It seems you're trying hard and eager to learn, which is definitely the most important aspect of this whole improvement thing. Just keep trying, you'll get there.

Now for some more specific advice, I really like the portrait of the black child, but keep an eye on your values! If you look at the finished drawing next to the reference photo, you'll see that your values (the lightness and/or darkness of your shading) is overall too light. For instance, look at his forehead. In your drawing, where the light hits his forehead is almost white. In the photo, the lightest area of his forehead is 30% gray AT LEAST.

hello mate.I can really say that you have done quite a progress even in these limited updates.
the opinions of the other mates here are all great and accurate, and personally i am gonna encourage you to try to master how to draw the basic shapes(cube,sphere,cylinder...) and to be able to depict them on everysingle angle.This will help u with a lot of things because u will predict and also understand better the things that you will be observing.
You are doing great so far.Keep it up!!!!!

Mose Thanks for your kind words , actually it was my first face digital drawing but soon i will draw some faces in digital and some on pen and paper to know them both ,i will follow your guidance .

peppercake first i must say thanks for visiting my profile, posts and send me messages, I am A beginner Also, I am Studying Anatomy Like You But Most Of them Are On Pen And Paper I will Scan All Of Them or Take A grate Picture Of them 2 Mount’s later because They are a lot, and i want you to see them perfectly. The Sceptical Saint thanks for your guidance through my proses, i didn’t think about it this way i mean i was think hatching is just 2 ways I didn’t know this way is better, i try what you told me and see the results and i will post that too.

kingkostas thanks for your message , i will try my best and try more actually i have found lots of different between pen and paper and tablet but i am trying to make harmony between them ,Your opinion is good about drawing basic shapes and become good at it, i will go for that bro.

I'd recommend you to do a lot of the sketches with pencil and paper instead of on the computer, it is a lot easier.
Also you should get a hold of the Loomis Figure book (and probably also the head and hands book). The ribcage in your figures seems very elongated and the pelvis is too small. I do ½-1 hour of posemaniacs.com figures every morning.

hey! nice stuff in here i really like the cup and some of ur traditional pencil sketches are really nice too. try to concentrate on the structure of the human body (anatomy).. i suggest reading books by george bridgman! you can check out loomis but personally i didnt like his books too much.
