Some sketches that I did in the train the last three days. I still mess up the proportions a lot in these.

Hey dude, I really like your sketches from the train and such, but I'm a bit doubtful about their "truthfulness". I think that they are still very "constructed", in a way. But they seem full of life, and that's important. How is it going by the way?

Thanks for dropping by dude. I understand what you mean about the sketches but I'm not trying to copy what I see in these sketches I get inpspired by reality and sketch my own interpretation of it,most of the time from a complete different angle than I saw it so the construction approach is necessary to give me complete freedom. As my understanding of the figure grows they will get more realistic hopefully. The focus is now to capture life and emotion so if you perceived that then I'm on the right track. As for school it's super crunch time as the deadline is nearby!

Man, absolutely gorgeous drawings, for you as for me, the colors is the challenge. Your anatomy is perfect, you need no more practice in that. It's in your spine.

What I would like ti give you feedback on with the environment paintings is that I think you might be using to much white in your highlights. Just think about it.

Thanks for the tip. A friend of mine told me the same thing sometime ago.I need to practice a lot more with color.I find it quite hard to get the relationships right. As for anatomy, it all started making more sense for me once I started drawing real people. There's still a lot I must master though.

    PaintMyBrain
I've been studying and trying to master Vilppu's drawing method for about three years now and that's what I use when drawing people from life. I focus on capturing the gesture. If I'm lucky enough and they stay around I keep drawing the rest of the details from them otherwise I complete the sketch from imagination. The parts that I can't get right from imagination I pay more attention to next time I'm observing someone. You just need to start doing it. In the beginning they will look like crap but you just have to keep at it. Don't show it to anyone If you don't feel confident enough about them but make sure you keep looking at them with a critical eye and find ways to improve.

Very nice updates. Your speedpaints are very accurate from what I can see, and your sketches are very tight overall. Keep it up.

    Hi fantasyartist

I took a look at your sketchbook and its totally banging! In regards to your comment I owe allot of the sense of movement to this book I got: "Force by Michael D. Mattes". Its a life drawing book for animators that focuses primarily on gesture. Studying classic Disney cartoons is great as well, even if cartoons aren't your thing; They have a good understanding of movement and the relationship between the joints. Also I've been drawing in pen allot lately, It helped me to not care so much and just do it over if it looks wrong.

Really nice character sketches. I think each character and it's important characteristics comes thorough really clear. You give yourself no escape working with a black pen but it turns out great, I always mess things up so fast but you are really accurate.

Thanks! Things get messed up as soon as you stop thinking. Always think about what you're trying to communicate before you put marks on the paper. The sketches that look like crap are because I was drawing lines for the sake of putting something on the paper and not really thinking about what I was doing. As for the blacks, I just use them to lead the eye through the sketch and to create focal points.

Thanks for commenting on my sketchbook! I don't really have any real critique for you, all I can say is that you have some amazing drawings. It's good to see that you are really well rounded too, in terms of characters, environments, vehicles etc... I'll definitely be checking back to see more.
