    Swen's sketchbook (updated august 17th)

Hi, my name is Swendly and I'm currently studying Game Design&Development in The Netherlands. I'm working hard to improve my skills in concept design. I also had an education in industrial design for two years. I sketch everyday for a couple of hours and I'm starting to believe that I'm addicted to art.
I've been posting on the forums for about a week now and the comments I've got from you people really helped me improve a lot. Now I diceded to start a sketchbook so I can get even more constructive crits and share my art with the rest of you. Enough talking lets look at some art.

    Crits are always welcome

Thanks man I love doing those animal studies too. What exactly didn't you like (or could be better) about the faces? Most faces I draw are very stylized so some proportions are exaggerated. I started doing some gesture drawings lately to make my characters more dynamic overal. I'll update soon so keep watching.

Been awhile since Ive been here. Great sudies and digitals you have going on. I love your last post, the painting looks really good, but you need to define the head a little more. I aslo love the pen piece. Very confident lines and great scenery, the tiger just looks awesome. Cant wait for more.

Thanks for stopping by man. Glad you like my new posts. The one with the tiger isn't a pen drawing I did it with a black faber castle pencil. I think it's like those prisma color pencils but for some reason they don't sell them here in the Netherlands.

    Colossus

This is a character design I did this week for a school project. The character had to fit in the game shadow of the colossus. I only had a few hours to pull this out.

It's been more than a half year since I last updated my sketchbook. Shame on me! I've been working very hard and made some serious progress during this last months. I have a lot of stuff to show and since I don't have time to sort everything out it will be a mix of older and newer stuff, the less crappy stuff being the newest of course. So let's start with some concept art I did for school projects and assignments. Most of them had to be done very quick so they're not completely finished:

More school stuff. The 3d model of the bar was done by Django den Boer. The character was also modelled. I'll have have to ask them for the final renders so I can post them.

    hey hey hey!

my favs so far are the greyscale profiles in post #21 and the anatomy studies in post #23.. they really capture the contre-posto of the bodies well!... line weight is much more controlled and less cartoony which I like. Keep it up!!! more more more!

thanks I have better control over my lines indeed. The problem that I had and still have a little bit is that I like to draw exaggerated curves so the thickness of let's say the arms and legs of my figures tend to get out of proportion, but I'm overcoming that right now. Come back for more soon because I have a whole sketchbook to scan.

    Clochette
Glad you liked the assassin, but looking back I think I did a poor job on the anatomy, specially the abs. Actaully I didn't use any reference. I may redraw him some day. As for my anatomy studies, I'm putting a lot of work into my constructions building from simple volumes to more complex ones.

WOW! for some reason after February 23rd your skilled just vastly improved =p Your figures have a much better quality and your style looks a lot more professional. I'm glad to see you've progressed a lot in such little time. Keep up the work and i'm looking forward to seeing more!
Just draw your ass off. Whatever you do, don't -- stop -- drawing...
