    Adre3es' sketchbook

    I just finished a course in multimedia, I like animating and design but I love drawing characters the most. I've been drawing for years but I still have a lot to learn so I hope to get some constructive comments/help here.

    recently I've been drawing:

    1. Kalista in copics, my tablet had died ^^;
    2. Nameless female thief
    3. Triplets, experimenting with painter essentials
    4. sketches I did last night and today. The first is pretty straight forward, sketch of my dog Ruby. The other is a realistic version of a drow/dark elf character I've only previously imagined and drawn in an anime style, I didn't have any references at the time so even though it's still pretty stylized I'm pretty pleased with it.

    some more art, the drider pic is old but the sketch of the dark elf is older, it's fan art of Valas from the War of the Spider Queen series

    Cant believe nobody has replied yet. Must suck. Welcome to CA tho, liking the anime-ish characters. Best way to improve is to step away from the style youre drawing in now and practice anatomy, draw figure studies, learn the human figure, do lots and lots of life studies as well. Then after a while go back to drawing in your style and see how much you have improved. Then keep doing life studies and anatomy drawings and switching back and forth from your own style. This is what I have done. Come check out my thread and see. Everyone has said that I have been improving like crazy, and i just joined a month ago. Keep up the good work. Cant wait to see more.

    I agree with what Envisor said, however...

    I think your main focus points should be colour theory, tone, and facial anatomy. Your characters look flat and there is little attention paid to light source, and colour variations within the skin. Skin isn't just a flat shade of peach, depending on the lighting it may have red, blue, grey, white... etc. There is very little contrast in your colouring (I'm guilty of this too (; ) Knowing realistic facial anatomy is crucial, even when you prefer "anime" style.

    You have the basics. You know where to put the eyes and the nose and create a character that is recognizably human, but now it is time to push the envelope. Do some self portraits (preferably from life) or some portraits of your friends. You'll find yourself gaining mad skillz in no time.

    Keep on drawin' my friend!
    As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle being swept along is no longer enough.

    thanks for the input guys! I do enjoy life studies and have bought pads and pencil with me on train trips and I agree it's something I need to do way more often. I've also started to put more colour variation into skin, though I am still very new at it and I have a habit of being too cautious ^^;

    been working on sketches since last night. I found some of my mum's art books and have been using them. in the second pic I was watching WWE wrestling and tried some really, really quick sketches of moments I saw an interesting pose or angle.

    Borrowing your mother's sketchbooks seems like a good idea. Your studies turned out good. I'll check your sketchbook from time and time to see how you're improving, so keep posting!

    Keep up with the studies! You seem to have a pretty good grasp on dynamics, and gesture- which a lot of talented illustrators lack! I suggest some heavy life studies, especially the human form. Grab a few good books, or sit infront of the mirror, or go to the park and draw the people there. Don't shy away from motion, and really start to practice and gain an understanding of form and understructure! KEEP DRAWRING!

    wooo back from a little holiday, did some sketches on the beach.
    Thanks for the comments and advice guys!
    Now can we say art dump?
    1. Drawn while watching Red Dwarf, hence the sketched android guy, he's surly XP (+plus sketch of my nan's dog)
    2. doing the base sketches was reminding me of my ball jointed doll and I did a little sketch of one, the leg elastic is quite loose, though the shoulder joints are a bit wonky XP
    3. finally beach sketches ^^ I was sitting there with my mum and we had the same sentiments, people need to stay still longer heheheh. I did manage to get that one girl a couple of times, she was close and stayed still/moved back and forth to the same point, quite a bit. I did some loose sketches of boys jumping at waves but they were very light and very loose ^^;

    OK I haven't posted in quite a while so here's a couple of things I've done:
    I stopped doing studies to enter an online competition and made a new Drider Character.
    Next is a piece done for an art-trade, I'm happy with the eyes and the pose even though he doesn't quite sit right in the chair (and yeah backgrounds aren't my best thing)
    finally is one I finished just this night. My half dark elf Half Demon hanging from a tree, and the background is almost decent XP
    I've also been working on a flash folio and various animations. Hopefully I'll get back to studies soon.

    been a while but here are some new pictures ^_^

    first is a recent picture of my drow arachnomancer character when I was trying to make a skimpy male mage outfit
    the second is a commission for a friend of her Deep Imaskar character from our DnD campaign.
    third is a picture of a sacrificial boy I made a few months ago and I found a picture online to help with the background
