nafti's head in blood is a good one. love it. On the last grayscale painting with the guy and the girl, watch the separation of space and your value range where here right leg crossees over his foot. Finish that one, it would look noice. Cheers.

since i do not have a PS3 i will watch all of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smafspwt1eA

dusted off my PS2 and spent far too long beating The Boss in MGS3. once i figured how to counter (hold O right when Snake grunts) i could beat her easily.

before that i finished Shadow of the Colossus. these games i left unfinished for over 5 years! ha ha ha ha! feels so good to complete them even though i forgot what the first 20 hours of game play involved. lol

    more hands. boooooooooooooo hoohooo!

ryan: the sketches need to be scanned. there are many and still more with purple/red/orange/green/black pens that i found at a walmart. the pens only last about a couple pages before dying though. ugh! i need good reliable pens!

nice looking study so far matt :3 colors are always a challenge with certain photos. but so far it's a convincing study! and you just finally finished MGS3? i loved that last battle with The Boss! (especially when the Snake Eater song plays-- if you drag the fight out that long that is). never played shadow of the colossus but i really wanna get it when it's re-released on the PS3 before Last Guardian

    keep up the studies dude!

impressive, most impressive. Lawrence of Arabia is one
of my favorites, great Idea for doing screen caps, I may try that. I
suggest working from life more, as photos are flat and don't have the eyes capability
to focus into space. awesome sketchbook! cheers.

i agree somewhat, but, it's really just contrast and edgework (especially with that last portrait). you have a good base, now it just needs to be pushed a little bit further, not from the pic, but from knowledge of the effects you want to produce. it's looking good, now just needs a bit of polishing.

    so...polish away.

    ryanoir: haha thanks brotha

Sean McClain & purb36: thanks, i tend to shy from the polished look because i dislike it and i can't see the rhythm of the strokes after i cover them up with the smudge tool (must learn more on how to keep the beginning essence of my pieces). now when it's needed i will apply the time, but this is a study not a 50 hour piece. i will leave those to more dedicated concrete studies.

    ---
GTA's humble beginnings! 16 years ago... lol!!

2 min figure studies (poop) a 15 min color study (superpoop) of Hard Rain scene and maybe a CHoW (diarrheal and can you spot the rubix cube?).
the figure studies were giving me a hard time. evil evil figures! i hates thee! blahhh got to do more to get back into the flow. i'm so out of the loop, but they help a lot. which includes those stupid loomis baby hand studies i hate so very much. they suck, but help so much at leveling up.

MattGamer: uhm your figures look rushed and like you weren't even concentrating. make sure to remember that. also your chow character has so many things wrong with it. from the color scheme to the skin color and more. maybe you should do longer figure studies or something.

lol damn matt. these are sick updates. i'm enjoying the looseness in your work lately-- even though they're studies i agree with you on things looking too polished. i'm not one for too polished work but then again i sway between liking to see the artist's hand and then also being refined XD. anyway, really love this last digital (is it a study or imagination?)

i also agree with matt's advice.. LOL?

you mistake my meaning, man. smudge tool skrudge tool. your foreground edges are too soft, which flattens out the picture. the contrast in the foreground is the same as the background, which flattens out the picture. i'm saying it needs to be MORE painterly, not more "photoshoppy". who CARES about going for the polished look...FORM, glorious form! you need more edge variety in places, more like the discowarrior (foreground vs background), not like the kitchen.

    GREAT work with the hands.

matty, you know we love you.
