Jeremy Swan: wow, great insight. i used your tips and they helped a lot. thank you.

teapo: haha! i've been doing livestreams since i upgraded my pc. (: and yes, Fever Ray really inspires me a lot. the music sets an amazing mood to paint to. i've only met a few bands that i've done work with, and what i enjoy is the relationship i gain with them. that's usually how i get jobs, from them recommending me to their friends. thanks bro!

JailHouseRock2: thanks for stoppin by, and thank you.

    Odayga: haha i'll try (:

    Yor: thanks awesome man

    ---
    been away and been busy.
might have a 90-200+ illustration gig coming up, and if i land the job it will be a great challenge to juggle my current job and draw during the night. but i do believe it will force me to learn either the hard way or the easy way (depending on the quality of work i can do in such short time).

here's some stuff from the past months.

prsnsweeney: well, I did a few albums for some bands and eventually they advertise for me to bands they like. it usually goes like this, "hay, who did that art, it's pretty cool." "oh that's our friend matt." and they usually have been contacting me. haha! one band didn't want me to do it, but their artist fell through and i was there for them! (: it's just being available, quality work, and fast! THANKS!

Gettin better Matt! Wow, love how that CD project came out. I should be stopping in here more regularly especially since I remember saying once I moved away I wouldn't disappear. The coloring on the bible line art leaves a lot to be desired though, some hard edges inside the forms like cel shading would help define a bit more stuff without having to add more line. Keep it up up up! You have skype? I'm on that mostly these days for work, MSN and FB hardly get opened.

    Eightball_: thanks !

towy: thanks, man! mmhmm, traditional i do still do. i just don't want to scan, it is a huge hassle and takes time from drawing & other things.

Metal Fingers: thanks for the fresh crit. the bible scene was done in a night and rushed. i haven't done anything like it since 2007. lol yes, skype i use sometimes. eventually they'll integrate FB with Skype. i don't know what they're waiting for, though. and FB is a trap. i try to stay clear of it as well.

good sketcbook,i feel some of the work looks a bit washed out?,maybe you are using too much white? or it could just look like that in the ref your working from,if so disregard that comment.

Nubian_Greene: hmm, thanks. it does look washed out. i never use direct white, i always pick new colors to lay down. but yes, maybe i shouldn't pick greyish colors so much.

oh, there's always stuff to teach and learn from each other. there's definitely a technique to painting, stuff that separates someone like, Android from someone like, me. but yes, it only gets ingrained by doing it. a lot. anyway, was checking out your livestream, had a few thoughts:

    - i keep saying this, but it's because i'm really excited to see your improvement. your colors are looking MUUUUCH better! one thing i think detracts from this is working in color over neutral, completely desaturated grays. having at least minimal saturation in the gray will either make certain things pop, or set a different mood, just like an underpainting. but the desaturated grays have a dull and lifeless feel to them. unless you're doing a greyscale study, maybe try to put SOME color in the grays? my 2 yen, take it or leave it.

    - your paintings seem to have a much better feel and cohesion when you block them in than when you draw them in detailed and paint over that. when you have to cut back into shapes, i would think that gives a lot more control over designing the edges. just saying, what you're doing works, keep up the good work.

    - what do you think about when you're doing the photo or master studies? i'm sure it's different from picture to picture...do you kinda just do it, or do you go in with something specific to work on?

    - i noticed you use the color selection box a lot. not sure if you heard of it, but there's a free color wheel out for photoshop. not sure what's the lowest version it'll work for (possibly CS4), but i highly recommend it. a fellow CA'er and local friend of mine made it. check it out, if you like: Painters Wheel, by Vorp.

    take care, bud.
