Hey man, two week and no updates? That's not like you.
Good to see some figure studies. I think you're kind of abstracting things too much, though.
Check your proportions of what your drawing vs what you see. Also, if you can, try to look
at the models from several different angles to get a sense of the forms.
The best is the female figure in the top left, good sense of planes and landmarks.
The guys in the bottom right look dis-proportional. The placement of the knees is probably too
high and the figure in the foreground definitely has some rather wide hips.
Try to visualize the bones and remember that the trochanter should be the widest point of the
hip (except for fat). Should be barely wider than the pelvic bone, and significantly narrower
than the shoulders on a man. Even on a female, the leg generally doesn't widen out much until
below the hip, beginning with the thigh
Looking forward to more, soon!

BludHund Sorry I just came back from a trip, I miss posting. It was nice drawing studies of landscape. I thought you guys might enjoy some of these photos.
I'll try to keep an eye on my proportions. That a good idea to move to different angles to observe better. I'll post some new drawings soon. Hope your figuring drawing has been fun.

Sketches done from Alaska and landscape studies. I took you guy's advice and worked a bit more on environments. Some notes from a youtube video on "Introduction to Landscape" An armor study wip, I have been meaning to get to.
I made adjustments to the drawing as suggested.

Great armour study! contrasts well with the chosen background.
Characters looking nice as usual. The top two might have too short legs but it depends the style really.
AimBiZ Thanks. I'm just trying out different proportions. The short leg character probably wouldn't run too well. haha.

Liking the figures you're doing these days, Brian.
Have you done any painting using the silhouette-first technique? I would be interested to see where you would take one of your imagination figures as a silhouette... painting it to a finish. The structure of your drawings is getting pretty solid. Seems like it's time for step 2![]()

No cute animals, but some nice sketches. Push that armour some more - it's a great start.
Black Spot I'll be sure to push the armor design more.

Interesting studies. Not all of them look balanced in the alternate position, but I sure could do with the extra arms. Form is looking good on them.
Black Spot I see what you mean the extra arms/leg make the pose look less balance. Good exercise though.
Wow...good to see ca.org back online. New layout and features I heard. Here is one speed paint and a armor design.

Good to see some figure studies, keep it up.
I have to say however, ditch those trendy 'multi-limbed' figure drawings; all they're going to do is give you a bad habit of drawing fly-swatted poses, i.e. poses that have no weight and rhythm. Study different poses/perspectives with separate drawings.
HunterKiller: Yea they are fun and trend to do, but not very practical for balance poses. You are right it's better to practice a good set of different poses then just added limbs.

Now if you'd done the Tangled fan art like the Fashion Poster, you'd be cooking.
Black SpotYea, I think that other style applied would have been interesting too.
Here is a quick sketch I plan to color.

I'm testing different color schemes. I'm not sure if the composition is too crowded. I would like the lightening come from the feet like a magically resurrection, but then it looses focus on the character's face which is more important.

No 1 gets my vote mainly because the others have blacks in them which kills the life...no pun intended.
As long as the face have the most contrast in the face I think you're safe and even though the glow probably need to be somewhat weak you can darken the area around it to make it appear strong, again distribute your lights and darks to create the focal points.
The composition itself is pretty balanced I think. Would suggest the character to be looking at the viewer to create interaction and break things up a bit ( notice how she's looking in the same direction as the fence which sort of makes an invisible tangent ).
AimBiZ Thanks, I'll give that one a go. I'll try to put more contract on the face as well as the face will be looking at the viewer to help the focus.
I tried the monotone route for the illustration. I think it's not working all that well and as Aimbiz mention maybe bit dead? I'll give it another try in a more painterly style. The lightening for me seems a bit much to due to vectors.

Going for painterly sounds like a good idea. I like what you got going on at the bottom most right version with the back fence being subdued in the fog but I think I liked more the idea of the character being spectral. I suppose the scene is depicting her rising from the grave? Perhaps she could look more corpse-like but still pretty. Having the light beams work well as motion lines.
Oh just noticed, the hole is too small for a coffin to fit in if that's what she's coming from. Kinda gives the impression that she's been buried standing.
AimBiZ Okay I'll go for the more painterly style. I think you are right the hole could be much better. I expanded it. I made her glow more like a spectral being. I'll still have to adjust her eyes. Thanks

AimBiZ Thanks, you gave me great feedback that help polish it out.
