I love your figure drawings so much! Do you draw most of them from life or from pictures? Would you recommend working from pictures before I get access to a life drawing class?

Sorry for all the questions, but you are so inspiring.

One more question though: For your character sketches could you give a simple process for that? Do you start off with really loose gesture-like pencil marks and find the forms within the mess,or, do you start out with an idea and then try to achieve that with your marks?

    Diego - thanks !

Lakka - great to see you in here again.. I agree i struggle in that area ..
    thanks bro!

_Ruuzi: Thanks for the compliment and sorry for my late response. Most of my figure drawings are from life but I have used photos as reference. My advice to you is to lay the right foundation early on and to draw from life as much as possible. Working from photos will suppress your growth and develop the habits that will take years to break later on in life... As far as my process goes - i don't really have a particular one. I'm sorry for being so vague but I really bounce between the two - sometimes i have an idea (though never a clear one) and develop around that, and sometimes i just start sketching...

Every time I need inspiration, I'll stop by your sketchbook! I just started digital (painter X though, haven't started learning photoshop yet), and your progress is quite encouraging. Awesome stuff here!

very awesome sb you got here, i'm very fond of your figure studies and the painterly feel in every one of your paintings. i'd really like to see more of your works developed into finished pieces. but other than that just great work and keep it up.

I took a painting class this fall. The main goal was to look at a setup as color shapes not objects. My teacher is really big on creating an interesting (abstract) tonal pattern instead of just rendering/cataloging objects. So instead of making interesting figures, heads, lemons and bottles we focused on making patterns of light and dark and connecting shapes in interesting ways. I know I haven't painted long, but to me this principle is pure gold. Not that i succeeded, but here are some exercises we did...

Wow there is a lot of improvement in this sketchbook. I hope that I can improve at this pace. Keep working on figure drawing and anatomy though. Sometimes I can see some flaws in your characters.
