    hey paperx,
figures friggin hard to do..always.. can't remember last time it seemed easy.. anwyays.. :o
I think the biggest issue with that figure is the weight.. her left leg suggests all the weight and you have drawn so but her hips and the rest of the body doesn't follow. and her right feels like it's not planted right.. just hanging in there. you gotta push that hip up to compensate for the weight, and often a pose like that would make a chick lean back a bit.
I was going to do a paint over but I think it's better for me to draw it separately.. so here.. I tried to match your figure but anyways..
hope you don't mind eeeee. (if u do tell me and I will remove it asap)
anyways dude, keep it going! figures are pain up the arse but you gotta keep pushing it. cheers

It's quite shocking to see how much you have been improving almost to the point that i don't want to sit anywhere near ya at life drawing anymore, heh! Those Wolff carbons seem to be working great for ya, have ya tried using a blending stump with those pencils as well? I only say that because at the mo it seems like your drawing with it like it's a graphite rather than exploring the advantages they have over graphite. Never know what may happen dude.

I'm still too chicken sh*t to have a go with those Wolff carbons because it seems like you gotta work hard to get the best out of em, like charcoal. I'm too much of a lazy k*nt to bother with that sh*t, heh!

Why not use your life drawings as reference? one thats close to the pose your after.

    take it easy mate...

I just went through this sketchbook for the first time. The difference from page one to page 16 is ridiculous. Like a completely different artist. Keep on this path and I don't see why you wouldn't get into any art school you're looking towards.

You mentioned a few days ago how applying color feels hit or miss. You probably already know, but there is one thing to keep in mind: the way color works in real world media (light waves) is so different from digital color presentation that comparisons are impossible. When doing studies digitally, stick with digital color masters like Black Frog or Jon Foster, etc. I initially made the mistake of trying to learn digital color techniques by studying traditional work. D'oh.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hey broski

    Just adding onto bumskee's critique.
I think you would benefit from paying more attention to the angles in a pose, especially how they contrast each other or form rhythms, and then accentuating these features to really give more energy and weight to the figure.

    Keep up the awesome work!

    Ooh nice painting man!
I really like the girl, as for the male figure, you might want to make him darker on the whole so that the girl (the strongest part in this piece IMO) stands out a bit more. Also I think that the male's shoulder should be moved upward a bit.

What are you thinking about the colours in this piece? I'm seeing this with a yellow/orange lightbeam and higlights, and the rest of the colours (shadow mostly) a not very saturated cold colour.. But this is all up to you ofcourse.. I like it in B/W already a lot just make sure you don't lose the contrast if you would get some colour in this.

I especially like the shapes of the branches and the girls arm and face in this work. Very interested to see how it turns out.. It's looking very promising!!
Post your progress in a few hours! I'll check back to see it ^^
Ofcourse it would be nice to make the deadline for Expose, but I think if you get a good portfolio piece out of this it will be just as good

See you in a few hours ^^
    Love,
    Marleen.

OH MY GOD. So there I was, hit the deadline, didn't finish, but decide to submit anyway...when...what do I see? Ballistic changed the deadline to March 2nd....

I don't know whether I should be angry or thankful....*sigh*

Here's the shitty last minute rush...at least now I will have enough time to polish this up....hit me with all the crits you got guys!!! (should I just get rid of the beam of light altogether? It kinda....really sucks.)

PS: LOL just realised it looks like he got hit with with a concentrated stream of water...either that or I seriously need sleep haha...

Hey man, I think it's looking pretty good, I would try and play with the composition a little bit more because the focal is almost in the middle. Also check your values and group them where you want the eye to go. You are doing that to some extent but the lighter values can be packed to better effect closer to your focus.
Hope that helps and keep it up.

Yep the ray of the light seems weird because its to focused and not interacts well with the whole of the cave(space)Try to do it with a big brush with opacity around 20-30% with few strokes(not smooth edged, unless you want it like that)
    I actually like it to
It have a general creation style and that makes it look finished so now you aim for quality basically
I will agree about playing more with the composition but i guess you may leave it away if you start over.So try to make the appropriate sharpenings(to move our eyes to the target)+ the proper saturations in the skin tones(remember how skin interacts when a strong light hit it)in some places the blood is more visible and it takes some +red color and also make the proper blur here and there in the depth to make a depth of field effect.
Anyway its a good work so dont worry. You sure learned a lot from that even if you dont finish it.

See ya pal!!! Sorry for not having any more clear critique

hmm, doesn't really seem like there's a theme or congruence to your colours.
look at nature and check how things look in light and shadow (the same things).

Otherwise, ty for updates, omnomnom etc
