Yeah, where are the updates?
Digging your imaginative drawings. I think your scanners too dark, and it's ruining the contrast on some of your drawings. I'm sure they were lighter when I saw them.
Update now j00 f00.

Damn, son, lookit you.
You've grown in leaps & bounds since I last dropped by here, then again I haven't been here in months and if you hadn't improved I'd be sending you angry IMs right now
Your pencil work is impressing me very much. Your general line quality, too... I think your improvement is most evident here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...3&d=1194669775
... like... wow... @_@
But enough ass kissing! Onto my favourite part
What kind of paper are you using? It seems that in some fo your SB sketches, the paper has a certain 'grain' to it that doesn't seem to agree with the style you're going for. Like here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...9&d=1197779873 you did a few portraits, but I think a lot of the subtlety was lost in the paper grain. If you can afford it, try getting a sketchbook with smooth, soft paper for subtle shading (this is why I have such an art boner for moleskines). I hope I'm making sense? I've gotten quite inarticulate since I left highschool so you'll have to forgive me
Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with your work that you won't be able to iron out with practice. Have you done any traditional paintings recently?

As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle being swept along is no longer enough.

tried to be a bit stylistic one this one but didn't like how it turned out so didn't finish it

sketch that i never got around to finishing:
shit happens:
again tried to take a more stylistic approach but i think i might have exaggerated the anatomy proportions too much, the hands look puny
sketches of people in a cafe

more sketches of people from life
doodles, thats Hunterkiller_ and his bad ass cap + shades in the corner
random monster thing, i like the design but i dont really like some of the values, also i ran out of room on the pagesome crits on the rendering on this one would be great
some more doodles and some page filler quick gun studies

nice manbeen busy much!
great observation here manthumbs up

i like parts of this one
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...8&d=1200282263
the facial features of the girl are great, but especially on her left eye (our right) it doesn't really match up with the edge of her head if you know what i mean... you need to trip a bit of face flesh off around the eye. Also her hand is puny. the teeth on the dog monster feel like they are floating around its mouth rather than being anchored a part of its jaw.
i really like this ones man. clean lines that say a lot especially the knee... haha, NICE KNEE! i like how the shapes sort of continue throughout the helmet guns and design parts of the costume too.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...2&d=1200282405
cool sharky monster. the values are quite confusing. it works a lot better on the face. but once you get to the chest, the values aren't really describing the overall form. i think you got a bit distracted from doing all the little muscly ripely bits
i do too a lot of the time. Also i don't think the muscly bits follow the form too well either. they are sort of just straight lines across the paper where the torso should be? the rendering on the arm looks very nice though. just remember the point of rendering is to describe the form and cast light on it. make sure you know where the shadows should fall.
ah, yeah talking about this one.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...7&d=1200282580
anyway, theres a few crits for youi think i was a bit blunt, but everything is looking great man
keep pushing! awesome!
Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook and your wishes!
I really like your collab with kronos on the blob monster. I would love to see a painting of this one

Small update: I joined Jens's Colour Study Class since i really need to work on two main areas I've been neglecting: my colours and my environments.
Here's one I did today:
nice dude, your making a lot of progress keep it up![]()
the environment looks goodkeep it up. One thing I would like to see more of is long studies (something I been neglecting of late) , I know its boring and tedious, but can learn a lot from doing them whether it comes out good or not.
this thread allway be welcome !! nice dude

Getting better, man...all the time. Wow. And ten pages, too. That's incredible. I love your use of tone, and you've got some really interesting designs going, I really like the third sketch. You really use that graphite masterfully, making all your figures pop like that, even if they're flat white and unfinished. Great work.
Keep up those life studies, they look awesome.
the evironment isnt a bad start, but it definetly needs some work, the compisition really doesnt work, it needs to be more balanced, and for the sake of studyin try not to overstate dark areas.
not a bad start but keep it up, cant wait to see the next one.

markey2d: thanks markey! the only poor excuse i can have is that i painted it from a ref so the composition issue really wasn't considered![]()

Holy crap dude! The last two environments are really showing a lot of progress. I can't wait to see ever more development here. Nice colours too. I especially like the little hints of mauve in the snowy mountain.
Get leopard working soon so we can oc!

And I need to get leopard too![]()
Last two enviros are great! Starting to produce some great shapes and the colours and values are really kicking!
Not much to crit on those really. It really is great seeing your progress dude, and your attitude always inspires me. Thanks for your visits to my book too, always enjoy reading your thoughts dood!

A bit late....but here's my LMS3 round 1 entry...all of the entries in my group are fantastic so the chances of me making it to round 2 is pretty slim heh, but it was great fun to do this
The topic was 'Underneath it all'. Heres a bit of a run down on how I approached this (just for the sake of it...feed back on my process would be nice too!)
This is the idea that i started out with, I was going for a "Underneath it all...lays a heart of gold" approach for a sci-fi themed piece....but then decided against it.
I then had an idea to do a piece of with an racial statement, pretty much the vision I had was of a Nazi soldier with Jewish prisoners juxtaposed with the fact that "Underneath" all the flesh/hair colours to determine our race, all human beings are, in fact, the same. This was my first attempt:
I decided the composition really wasn't working, so I scrapped it all together and started on a new piece. Half way through rendering I realised my theme wasn't being communicated well at all, and the piece looked like a bad B-movie horror poster. After messing around a bit I decided add some illustrative elements into the piece...I'm still not very happy with the end result though, as I think I did not convey the message of my piece well enough...![]()
CRITIQUE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Beautiful. I wish I could offer something more useful than that, but I can't. It looks really good. Really good. I commend you and your painting skill. I am bested once again! I've got to get painting soon or else I'll never catch up to you.
sketcheth: rofl good one man, you catch up to me??? more like the reverse dude

soo.....i update with a finished piece for once and get no crits or flaming for much needed studes?wow thats weird...anyways some sketches...any Crits on LMS still MUCH appreciated!!!
a doodle done in an oC with Kronos...really need some hand studies
SP in oC
was supposed to be a DSG, but i didn't really like it (eww at the colours)
some others doodle in an oC with Kronos, again, need to work on hands
messing around with colours in oC, i sorta like it :/, really hate the bottom half of her face though (especially the mouth)
Sketchbook doodles
a sketch that i didn't finish for some reason
went out to town and saw some north american group busking and promoting their cds, really neat clothing and instruments (couldn't fit one of them in though, sorry dude!)
some more quick sketches of people around town
another sketch i never got around to finishing (I'm beginning to see a trend here)
Drawing stuff in a park
quick drawings of people walking by....im really bad at quickly capturing gestures with lines![]()
another pretty bad one...posting for crits pretty much
sorry, this might be bad for your eyes
doodle page
lol dood why is your self portrait so pro compared to your stuff from imagination?....I think you just need to draw even more from life![]()
awesome work paperx, the last image and the park drawings in your update are fantastic. The rendering on them is really bold and strong. Most of your rendering looks rushed, soft and "sketchy".
While at the workshop, one of the instructors mentioned that its best to take a piece all the way to the end, no matter the it takes, if you keep ending your works so early you'll never really be able to figure out what it takes to make a piece look completed.
I also agree with mc2, your open canvas study is fantastic and very clean.
keep it up and keep it bold!
hey man, havent seen your stuff in a while, everything is looking really good. Your pencils look tighter and cleaner. Those environments are looking badass. On the LMS piece, the rendering looks really good on the nazi soldier, i think the other skeletons could use a little refining. My biggest issue with the peice is that there is a lot of unneeded stuff going on. I dont think you need the birds or barbed wire. I think all of that stuff going on the outside of the image is ditracting the importance of the major figures.
Blog: My Blog
great work, your studies pay off quite well.
and your understanding of color is vary good.
it been a while,
erm anyway,i love that nazi thing u did it amazing really pro stuff i wanna see a couple more those plz!
just take ur own advise and do studies

Here's my really rushed entry for Artgerm's Pepper Project on DA, I realise I probably shouldn't have used a full frontal lighting, made the values and contrast look totally shitty and the whole thing really flatah well....
I dunno if I'll have time to do some scans but I do have some sketches over the last month to show you guys, meanwhile obviously any crits is always very appreciated

Some cool sketches man. That last sketch is handled really well, her head looks a little too small for the rest of her body to me but that might just be because of the helmet anyway nice stuff man.
Good luck with the university course, cheers mate
I should probably stop by here more often, your stuff is seriously great!
how's uni treating you? got you experimenting and learning?
let us know what's up and keep on sketching mate.

I probably wouldn't even be doing this if it weren't from family pressure and stuff...*sigh*, heck i haven't even checked out your stuff recently....im sure its awesome as always
...
No updates today, just wanted to post something to show that im still alive, yes I have been drawing in case anyone cares, its more of a case of being too lazy to scan stuff and not really having any satisfactory stuff to showUniversity assignments pretty much doesn't have much to do with drawing at all these days so I think i pretty much went off drawing for a whole week during orientation. However, I have started going back to the basics with some bridgman studies so I'll try and find time to do an update soon
cheers everyone....all the best with everybody's art!
