    Looking good.
The figure you did looks good, but the shading on the legs is a bit too inaccurate: the lower leg espacilly, show us a bit more the strucuture underneath it.
Also you might want to look at the planes that make the face, especially the around the eye and the nose. Those detailed places would add alot of
    realism and caracter.

nice update man - the figure and the hand looks prettygood!

A tip for shading: When you shade, don't just indescriminately scribble in lines or darken and area (guilty!), remember that the direction of your hatches, their shape, and their weight really make a different when you're trying to portray light&shadow. Try a page full of hatching scribbles/practises/studies and then try to apply it to a still life

    keep up the good work!~
As the pattern gets more intricate and subtle being swept along is no longer enough.

    update!

DanielC: thanks alot for keeping an eye out for a n00b like me...i'll try to render more correctly in the future!

bunny: thanks Nomi ! ill keep at it!....i kinda gave up on my Biondina lol....i might work on it again some day.....

and so, i know i haven't exactly been updating lately, which is somewhat due to members of my family being in hospital and mostly due to me being lazy . well anyways...no more excuses! time to update!

well im gonna make 2 posts for update today...hope thats not against any rules

    1. doodle page...some bridgman studies and a female face...(sort of ref'ed...but it was from a reaaaally small picture that i just found kinda interesting so it was mostly inspiration from reading too much comics )
    2. a page of bridgman hand studies
    3. a portrait of my grandmother...i totally screwed up her mouth area...
    4. random doodle that i gave up real quick......

well the reason i wanted to post these on a separate post is that me and my friend mc2mc2 are in the process of starting a mod for the "Make Something Unreal Contest 2" competition and so im gonna be doing alot of concepts for that from now on...

we don't really have a website or anything yet...but if anyone's interested working on a suspenseful, 3rd person adventure mod involving solving murders in real-time, tarot cards, freaky killer clowns, and a dark noir atmosphere on the unreal engine 3, then give me a heads up lol

    1. just a quick speed paint of the main character...im not really satisfied with the mood and style here...
    2. tried again with pencil...i like his top better but wasn't satisfied with his face so decided to concentrate on that instead.
    3. a page full of face concepts...i know all of the faces are kinda skewed lol...its a old problem i have... going to take the one in the bottom right corner into photoshop soon for further development...(yes, the ying-yang symbol is random i know )

Really like what you're doing here...especially those portraits, some stunning pencil work. And those figure studies you've got at the beginning are always a good start. Looks like...Bridgmann's? I love the book. Keep up the great work, I'll be watching.

Hey man, where are tha updates? You're an artist man, get crackin'!

I really like the portrait of your grandma. However it has an unintentional "rushed" look to it. Sometimes you really just have to slow down and look at what you're doing.

I'm likin' the clown guys The top-right on especially.

    Update plz!!!

    Cow

    sorry...Sorry....SORRY!!!!
for being slack and not updating that is...

    anyhow...better start cracking

Exocentric: thanks man! I wouldn't call my pencil work "stunning" exactly...ur pencils for one kicks mine right out the window pld:, and yep indeed its bridgmans...(altho Mr.bridgman should be rolling over in his grave right now if he ever sees my crappy imitations ), thanks for the nice comment tho
PS: your sketchbook ROCKS...if i had more ppl reading this i'd do alot of advertising for you, too bad im just a n00bie

asoir: haha thanks man....just gotta keep up wif the updates

bunny: yeah...it was pretty rushed cuz it was pretty late and she needed to go to sleep, but thats just me making excuses I'll try to update more in the future

    and...... cue art!

    1. just a concept for my mod again
    2. another concept that didn't really get anywhere
    3. random doodle that turned out pretty badly
    4. after the crappy-ness of the above doodle...it was time to do some fast anatomy doodles, from mr.bridgman ofcourse
    5. and do it again...
    6. and again...
7.aaaaaaaaaaaaand...it didn't really do anything...complete failure of a concept...horrific torso anatomy (sorry about that guys... turn ur heads away here...) and basically i just doodled a random leaf skirt for him for no apparant reason...dont ask me why
    8. quick ref'd anatomy study
    9. mod concept for the main character (the clown guy)...the hands are a bit small...
    10. an old concept that i never finished...
    11. last but not least...a quick sketch for you Bunny , happy valentine

I hope thats enough to make up for my lack of updates...

    Cool Yay

    @ asoir

yeah man i'm not so proud of those myself eh
I was just really fustrated at the time cuz I couldn't get my anatomy right so i just quickly doodled out some random poses from mr.bridgman's book, line quality and such really wasn't on my mind sadly

I'll watch out for that in the future, thanks alot for the nice comment btw

    IN OTHER NEWS

I will be leaving for China on the 8th of March next month for a whole year of just studying art, to try and get into the CA Atelier . Nothing fancy, just pure classic traditional studies such as charcoal, life sketching, oils and all that. Due to this I might not be able to post for a couple of days...(or weeks who knows) but thats not till next month anyway..

    on to MORE AWESOME NEWS:

due to my expedition of art to China (and also cuz my 18th birthday is coming up in May) my dad has bought me a 15.4" 2.16ghz Core2 Duo Macbook Pro...

    ...which I picked up today...

so yeah... I'm gonna be busy shifting my files from my pc to my MBP and just basically playing around with the awesomeness that it is for the next couple of days...(not that anyone's gonna miss me haha) ...but ill try to update with some art in between, so yeah... peace out

Hahaha, aww, that portrait of me is awsome thanks! I'm flattered.

    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1171458625
This is pretty awsome, I really like the colours you're using in her skin. Her stomach looks a little flat, though. Even really skinny girls have a little bit of shape goin' on there

About your joker character - if you're going for a kind of creepy-macabre look, try to ditch any kind of costuming that would make him look 'silly' or effeminate. Ditch the frilly collar. Try for a sort of... a clockwork orange meets post apocalypse meets freaky clown kindof deal. Then again, ignore this if you want to, I don't want to foist my personal tastes on your personal characters

Your gestures and your recent studies are looking great. Your pencilwork is improving a lot, you should feel proud!

    Keep on updatin'

Keep working at them pencils, man, they're solid. I like the figure study you have there. Keep your lines loose...those last two studies are very strong. I like how soft you've got the cross-hatching, and you've got a wide variety of depth of value...good details. Keep drawing.

asoir: yep yep im officially converted into a mac use now lol

dan liimatta: ...dude i dunno what ur talking about but ur sketchbook is friking AWESOME!!! ur bridgman studies kick mine out of the stratosphere thanks alot for the supportive comment tho

bunny: im glad u like my crappy sketch thanks alot for the awesome critiques, ill definately keep your suggestions with the clown character in mind, thanks again!

Exocentric: thanks for stopping by! im still not very pleased with my pencils (line quality in particular, you should see how much i use the eraser in real life...irk...) ill keep working on it

and......at this point u may ask...where is the compulsory update? weeeeell...ever since i got my mac, my dad is using my pc and he reinstalled windows for his convienence and he hasn't installed the drivers for the scanner and stuff...so the update will have to come a bit late again

but i am doing art tho...so the next update should be bigger...(well by my slow as updating standards anyway ) I try to get the scanner up and running as soon as possible , so everyone have a good day and all the best for your art

opps...it seems I got my scanner up and running faster that i expected lol..i hope no one minds me double posting

    anyways...heres some art:

    1. a da vinci study that didn't turn out so well
    2. random crappy doodle
    3. some studies of da vinci's studies (poor soul must be rolling in his grave by now) should've spent more time on them
    4. some basic stuff to improve my shitty line work (i also did like 2 pages full of circles but i dont think anyone would be interested in seeing those lol)
    5. some sketches studied from an art book i borrowed from the library
    6. a mod concept that kinda went off subject....so yeah....now its just a random doodle
    7. studies studies, planes of the face and a random ref'ed quikie
    8. more planes of the face and a uber quick self portrait that doesn't actually look like me
    9. random doodles
    10. an study of one of Ingres' sketches
    11. another Ingres study....i kinda made the faces look more asian i think lol...

    Smile new goal

dan liimatta: thanks man lol i really dont think my bridgmans are any good tho...you're just too modest

asoir: thanks! i like how you are doing studies now too, keep at it man!

OldNoobie: wow...all i can say is WOW. you have no idea how much i hate my "UN-clean" lines lol...so when you say my lines are clean (first person ever to say so ) im more than shocked lol...but yeah...in reality my ines are (pardon my french) absolute SH*T...i really need to do some marker studies to improve my line confidence ...thanks alot for the comment tho...made my day

anyways...sorry guys..didn't get to do much art today, had to help my dad with something...will try to get more done tomorrow. my new goal is to completely copy every drawing in a book i have called "Drawing the Living Figure" by Joseph Sheppard. its pretty impressive and i think maybe doing one of these studies per day will help with my anatomy

PS: every "page" (by this i mean like open book which is like 2 pages, bear with me here ) on the left has a figure drawn nicely rendered and on the right an "x-ray" version of the figure showing the bone structure underneath. im aiming to follow this layout

I'm really, really liking the new stuff. Especially the portraits, good pencil work my friend!
I really like the second Ingres sketch of the woman, the face is very nicely done.
The skeletal structure studies are really well done, especially with the skin and everything over. Studying the human skeleton is never a bad thing, i'ts great you're doing that. You're even drawing individual ribs! I don't have the patience for that.
As far as crits go...you're getting good. Uhm...this is nit-picky, but it looks like in your shading you don't get too, too dark. Or at least balance it out if you do. That's all. Solid, solid stuff. Really looking good. Keep it up.

    Hey man

Just Another Fucking Aucklander on CA, sheesh! nah just kidding , that would be supremely freakin awesome if you got into the CA atelier, it think an experience like that would rival no other... mmmmmm, hot damn that would be cool.

your China expedition sounds like it will be a very cool experience, i think if you isolate yourself you will end up doing more art, like less distractions of normal life you know? make the most of it dude, it sounds really cool.

anyway on to the art, you've made great progress already, NICE! great studies, keep going with them. All i can say now is....

    MORE!!!!!!!

oh and, thanks for the comment in my SB
