i first drew pintail slightly too small but since i kept every person on a seperate layer (photoshop), that was easily fixed.

Haha, those little ponies are hilarious, and the colorized tree piece turned out great, i love how mossy and alive everything is. I'm waiting eagerly for the next pencil update.

there's another chow going on, and while i may not participate in the end, the theme, "guardian of atlantis", somehow reminded me of that old cartoon "flipper", which as far as i can remember was awfully cheesy 80s/90s environmental fluff.(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rahKDxqYBc)
so thinking about that i thought about hypothetically creating a similarly awful show, named "guardian of atlantis", where a boy from some small island meets this guy here, an inhabitant of atlantis.
together they go on lots of zany best-friend adventures where our human boy is the smarts of the operation and fishboy here is our well-meaning, but often far-too-curious second half. we learn about atlantis, some mean guys, environment pollution and i-don't-know-whatever. i think you can imagine.
me, i can almost hear a theme song and giggle to myself.

austen - cheers! i won't be continuing the chow though, as it doesn't really fit the topic. (because ultimately the human would be the guardian, and not the creature)

well, never thought i'd draw something like this, but this guy got me inspired. although his motives are sometimes questionable, i love his lineflow and feeling of weight, and the way he can sometimes make the most disgusting things work just swell.
just hope the image link works, cause i'd rather not upload it directly.

edit: HA, got it! This character is now officially named Brushpen Bristle. yay!

Proper write-up and trying to give him more character. (different from my own)

Brushpen Bristle: He's an overly-self-critical artist with a grumpy disposition, but a good heart. His cutie mark is a pencil, and he has a small atelier at the edge of town (above some sort of shop), where he lives with two female flatmates. (they work in the shop) He is often seen carrying around a sketchbook, and cries of frustration ("this just isn't right!"), followed by a flood of torn out pages mark most of his days. Most of the time he seems distracted or deep in concentration and has very little patience with strangers, but he actually is a very good listener and can surprise with the occasional good advice. Rather pragmatic in all but his art, he often forgets to eat and has to be reminded by (main female flatmate/later love interest).

well, here's Brushpen's flatmates/landlords. they have their own bakery at the edge of town, which specializes more in bread and buns than cakes and sweets. Strawberry Muffin (shortcake?) takes care of the customers while Blackberry Bun works the kitchen. she has a birthmark around her eye which often makes other ponies uneasy around her (incidentally i just learned that birthmarks can also be called strawberry marks - the irony kills me right now XD ) Brushpen is one of the few who doesn't mind at all.

i'm not sure about Strawberry's name yet, since i just found out that it's also the name of a different, copyrighted character. maybe someone has an alternative? (hm, maybe Raspberry Red?) she's sweet and easygoing, and while Blackberry is also very friendly, she often gets depressed when the other ponies react negatively to her appearance.

what i'm very happy to say is that i've found a way to work in the mane six. they notice, with help of Strawberry, that Brushpen and Blackberry actually have feelings for each other, and try to get them to go on a date. of course rarity and twilight want to help Blackberry brush up and look fabulous(cover up her birthmark), and rainbow dash and applejack try to make Brushpen more manly(weightlifting etc).
of course the whole things ends in disaster with both behaving very contrary to their nature (awk-warrrd), and in the end we learn that you shouldn't force things or change yourself only to please (or in this case not please) someone else.

Nice stuff Carnifex - cool to see, especially since I remember you being rather grumpy about your own work in the past, and also based on content I have to say it's surprisngly cute now ~ figured you would end up more for in the Bathory dark camp due to nature and your username ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDpc-831GPs, never doubted it would turn out good on the other hand given how consistent you were, and how much you strived to improve.

dan liimata - hey, good to see you around again! occasionally i'll still post darker stuff (as evidenced by that "not safe for life" piece abit further up), but in general the whole conceptart shtick feels so repetitive and cliché to me currently that i stick to simpler, cartoonier stuff. along with that comes a need for more innocent and uncomplicated worlds, which results in cuter stuff. maybe it's just a phase, but i am now, more than ever, drawing just for the fun of it. i guess the world is dark enough as it is.
unfortunately i haven't applied my skills to any job yet.

little experiment to try and anthrophormize the ponies. my first(well,actually second) attempt (on the left) looked more like cows so i tried to approach the show's style again. not sure i succeeded, i can't really work with half-realistic(which is what i've seen on most anthro). either i go full on cartoon or realistic human. trying to mix the two results in nightmare fodder. (as evidenced by the second image, which i'm including for the sake of completeness)
