are these graphite on gray paper? you are exploring a very limited value range. Get yourself a 4b and a 6b pencil and get a few strong darks in there. You could also bring a white or cream colored pencil to play to bring up some highlights. All your edges are hard on the torso. Cast shadows are hard edged but body shadows are soft edged. controlling your edges will help your forms read better. If these are on white paper you need to tweak the levels a bit in photoshop to get them to look more the originals.

Give the 3d guy feet. In portfolio pieces its generally a good idea to finish the hands and feet, otherwise it looks like you are afraid to take on difficult parts of an image and unable to finish your work.

The prisma/ballpoint head with the stretched out neck should be excluded, it brings down the overall level of the portfolio.

the 3d model is evidently your strong piece, a sufficient portfolio for schools should have alot of varied work, showing you working with different mediums and with different subjects showing your not just going to stick to what you feel safe with such as the same old character over and over again.

Some things you think are terrible and someone else will love so dont always just pick out what you feel is the ones you like the most it can sometimes be a bit of a mistake so it's good to have someone there with you helping you pick your items to show the art schools.

Alot of work shows a dedicated student, someone who loves the art field and isnt going to waste the schools time with never showing up but sometimes its hard to have the time to go through loads and loads of work so sort them into two areas, first area the pieces which will leave that first impression showing them what you got and the best pieces, second things just like anatomy studies or quick sketches or other pieces you felt like sticking in

It also all depends on what the art schools your trying for like try a few more pictures playing with things you dont often, textures tones light sources new mediums landscapes

subtle squid: there are actually some very (butnot fully, as in it could use some improvement) pronounced darks, if i could show up at your house and present these pictures i would, the issue is parly some shading issues, but in fear of sounding like a whiny 4 year old or a pompous ass its really my camera, it turns white into gray almost all the time, im not totally sure why but for instance the 3 graphites peice is on perfectly white paper.. laso i had got some great comments at npd about the guy with the tretched neck, wondering what makes it not good for you.. and for Sems im pretty confident that i will get in sva and scadconsidering what they have said UARTS and MICA official reviews december 1st and second, ill try and get some more high quality pictures if i can.. but really its very hard to with myfujifilm fine pix a205 from like 2000 lower end then.. think of it now
maybe ill try a 35 mm then scan.. who knows
any other crits?
edit actually its 4 graphite peices, to give you something to base the value range on risd said the shoe drawing would be something included in an accpeted portfolio

another edit* this post was not meant to marginalize the ideas from subtle squid, i will try to play with a larger value range i was just trying to express that the range was not as limited as it seems, i have been using 6B on almost all of the drawings, maybe ill try some ebondy or pulling some more light values...
