    Fiergon's Sketchbook - 2007 Sketchdump

Hey all. My name's Fiergon, this is my first time posting here EVER, and looking at the other pieces of art all over this site makes me very, very, nervous.

I'm 18 and currently a senior in high school. Most of this stuff is just doodles, scribbles, and random bric-a-brac. But- *deep breath* Here goes...

    Name: Resize of fierwings.jpg

    Also, keep in mind, that I have near no idea how these forums or image-attachery-thingies work in the slightest. So if this post looks stupid HTML-ishly, please help. ;-;

Hur. Here's a couple more. The one on the bottom is (I think) the most recent.

Also, FYI: I been drawing since I was.. probably 9, but have only begun to take it seriously for the past few years.

So, what are some of your thoughts? I could use some constuctive criticizm.

*blows off the dust* Wow, I haven't been using this at all. Let's fix that. Here's some random favorites since I last updated.

This one's me getting used to different lead types in pencils. Most of the shading's done using a 4B, 5B, and 6B. Eeeehh.... Could use some sharper shadows, but hey, practice is practice.

Heh, this one's one of my favorites. I'd like to do some more work with it.

I kinda liked this one. I need to get better using ink, but this ain't a bad start, methinks. Her name is the "Siren's Fang".

There was some contest CA.org had a topic about where you had to create a giant creature... Well, school got in the way and I missed the deadline, but meet the Tree Titan. I had a lot of fun drawing this guy, and I'd love to do some more work wif' him in the future. Heh, I even wrote a song about him for my Music Theory final. *dork*

Well, that's roughly it, so far. I'll try and scan in more stuff as time passes. 'Til then, see you when I do.

Found this old one. Fear my mullet.

Also, you may see the.. like "-Fier" thing interchanged with my name on these drawings, just cuz I'm getting tired of signing real drawings with an internet name. Kinda pointless. Also, my art teacher wanted me to put little ©'s in my stuff. So, hey, there they are.

    Later.

Theres a clear improvement from your first post to your latest, Fiergon.
Are you drawing from life? Doing figure studies? You should be, they're really beneficial. As for your drawings, they are usually pretty stylized , which isn't a bad thing, but it'd be nice to see some realistic drawings, poses, still lifes, ect as well. Lets see some more works soon

I agree. That link Jess was talking about leads to a useful page on poses that really shows how the muscles work in the pose... hm.. I think.. I got some old life studies and speed sketches in one of my old books. If I find them, I'll put them up.

A website Jess told me about called Posemaniacs really helped me out with figure. Above you'll see a couple studies as well as 2 pages of minute figures; The site has a 30sec sketch function, but I set it up to a minute, 'cuz that's how I roll for now.

sweet gestures, fier. try doing larger ones sometime!

also, try doing some photo-realistic studies. like, take a pic of yourself, and try to get as realistic as you can; not sure if you're meaning to, but the portrait you did of your friend and band teacher are pretty stylized. keep doing this with yourself, friends, and even celebrities

Yeah i agree with jess up there. If you're using 4,5 and 6b's like you said you should be capable of a lot darker than what you have. I mean I use a 2b and that can get pretty dark. I think you will benefit from lifedrawing (said that a million times squared plus 1) but it's true. If you havent checked out that site the link is

    www.posemaniacs.com/blog

I think you're off to a good start with the different angle poses and I believe you may have the capability to imagine things in 3 dimensions already. You just need to develop it.

My fav is the most recent post.

Well, that's everything that's partially worth scanning; I've placed all my cards on the table. It's time to learn from what's wrong with all these, and roll in the new year.

    Happy 2008 guys!

Wow, man. Very nice progression from the first drawing to the last! I am very impressed, and can't wait to see more from you. I agree with the others - definetely try more 'realistic' stuff, deeper shadowing / contrast etc.

But what you are doing right now... I like it!
