On August 1st you posted a page of hand studies, on August 5th you posted a character with their hands behind their back... Extend one of her arms , and try on all of those hands and observe the effect it has on her character. Hand Row 2 in the middle would make her look like a Trekky, so I as the viewer would assume various things about her personality, the piece hand in the first row would make her look japanese possibly... would be interesting to see the different combos. Hell, I'm going to try myself in a little while, you got me curious.
EDIT: the new character doesn't have hands either! Just another opportunity.

the chick from the 6th is really nice!![]()
So true to my word I gave it a shot, here are about half of them. This kind of stuff is new to me too, was surprised by the amount of difference in expression just by changing the hand,it was a worthwhile little exercise, I do suggest you try it yourself.
The moral of the story is always incorporate your studies into new drawings, find new ways of expression with each one.

Hi there Call0ps!
Imaginational stuff, awesome seeing that. I'm doing more of that myself and it is starting to become a great fun. I must say the hand drawings look very good, a few lines and everything's there. Are the gestures refed? Those posted before the hands studies. Define the ribcage better, the back looks too straight. Oh hell, just read that someone has pointed this out for you. But that just proves I'm right, haha.
Beware of those ballerinas in the clouds! Though it looks good I must say, as if you painted her there on purpose. But watch out for that stuff when you don't wish it to be there.
Hey Call0ps, nice sketches! I liked the hands you did, they were really well done

Great sketchbook!
hey callops dude sorry ii take so long to reply! you are going great man, i can see you learning and growing rapidly, your pencil technique is really well developed. id like to see you take some sketches further or maybe develop some in painter?
i think you know what to do to progress so all i can do is offer my support.
keep pushing dude you're gonna go far![]()
razz hi matte, thx a lot for the support, yeah they are refered, i start like doing refered stuff then i go from head. and yes i was precisely thinking about that, i guess was luck on the ballerina, next time i need to watch out myself ^^;
James_Wolf thx so MUCH! i love your art, specially the rendering, just soo beautiful and inspiring ^^ your words gave me strength to draw just right now
WhiteC how u doing matte? thx for your kind words ^^
Diphallia lol! i think i could use that as wellthx for the support
Don-key thx matte! hmmm.. guess is my next step, to develop more my drawings, give them color etc..., unfornnutly i dont know hot to progress ^^; i just keep drawing, thx a lot for your kind words, now im on fire to draw!!!!
well im not drawing as much i would liked to these few days, excuses are lamme i know, theres always time, oh well that ainda completly true unless i dont sleep of course ... hmmm.. gotta think about that! anyway i start to feel bad about it and i just drew simple and fast stuff just to keep this threat alive .. oh btw good news in my pity lifei entered on college, yeaahhh! now i can draw in classes since its art college, one step for my dream as artist , anyway..
need to work more in values and such ...
![]()
Hi Callops!
The contrast really is low in the speedpaint. When working with values only it helped me to have a gradient from white to black, so that I could pick the value I need and use the whole scale, not just the middle greys. I guess that's a problem most of us have to deal with. It does make the painting look flat, so look out for that.
In the drawing proportions are a bit messy and his back looks too straight. The head looks nice by itself though.
hey razz, thx a lot with the advice, yeah the proportions are stil a problem to me, as well as everything else xD, always good to hear your critics, straight and honest, love it![]()
another value exercise thinking about what razz said, altogh the proportions still arent as good ... gotta draw more![]()
![]()
damn man, you're improving at an impressive rate!
excellent work, keep rockin!
ciao
Yo Call0ps, looking good dude! and about values.. while razz has an interesting point about using the whole range, you can also easily make realistic forms with limited range. The trick is to make sure all forms go through same value change.. well i am just repeating what's in loomis books actually.. hehe.. but yeah, the whole range does it a nice contrast but doesn't mean limited range can't do similar either. suppose I also use the whole range too..heh
and few things I notice is lack of shadows... that really adds so much more..
keep going dude!
there´s a great talent in this sketchpages i can see from the start. lovely SB!
and Armandos suggestion is maybe one of the best advices ever given in this forum. 4 real. keep it postin!
