Your drawing skills are excellent. I am sure to follow this sketchbook like a...erm...one of those funny looking fish always following the Great White Sharks around. Any good tips on such delicate shadings like yours? Also does it take longer to draw with that shading style?

Hey bard, I really like the Zhaoming Whu study, a few weeks back I went and bought all of his books. I took a head drawing class with him last summer, it was great. I plan on talking a few painting classes with him in the future. Nice sketchbook, keep doing what your doing. Cheers.

Why did I even post those...
    Here's a better version...

Rist- Thanks, My shading skills are not that very good, because I smudge...
    I don't know if that's right or wrong...But thanks..Try to look at DanielC's
    thread I love his shading!!
OldNoob- Haha...but they're essential for the learning process, now that I think about it. It can't be all good, right so to better chance of having a great feedback, we need to show the bad...And yours has lots of gems and potential!
NKristian- Hehe...I have to admit I haven't done anything substantial in the sketchmeet until this very day. Pat and me posed as students and copied casts in U.P.!!! Hehe..I'm going back tommorow...fuck that guard asking a lot of questions, though..
Darktwin-I love him...You are so lucky!!! Since AztcFireFlower introduced chinese painters on her thread...I just keep marveling them! Those are kick ass books!! I wish he do a DVD! Your studies are cool too!
Noukah-Thanks! Sometimes I think I have some disorder because I want to learn everything and keep switching styles...The backside of that is that my learning isn't concentrated and lagging on certain areas...
I think, because I studied animation for 2 years (2d) and just marvelling at oldtimers in the animation business, they can switch styles at the drop of the hat...My teacher explained to me that it's all knowing fundamentals, because you can't stylize something you don't really know.
And that is why I've been husslin' learning anatomy too!!!

    Thanks!

    Thanks Rist!

Just a bigger version of the one before....

Actually had a lot of these lying around...when I was practicing from my Jack Hamm Landscapes and Seascapes book...
    That was top notch...
I don't do full blown because I know I don't have the necessary knowledge yet...

But something I saw from J.Macs thread that I want to try is the movie still studies...Gonna start working on those..

Jump straight into doing rendered enviroments! You may think you do not have the right knowledge, but YOU HAVE BEEN SEEING ALL YOUR LIFE, surely you have some image in the back of your mind of that texture or this perspective. And if you do struggle and hit a wall, go to the library and take some books out. Whenever I watch a Gnomon Workshop DVS they always mention doing previous studies first and also having reference. Try doing the things you think you may struggle with on a seperate sheet before applying it! Saying all this I might try it too

You have a great sense of color. I've just started to appreciate how hard colors are now that I'm slowly permitting myself to use them...

When I did some character Thumbnails, I found using a normal round brush with about 60% opacity and set to black is really good. and also painting the canvas a gray will take away the powerful white. Another way may be to have the canvas black and paint with the same brush, but set to white. I never use colour for this stage as it needs to be as neutral as possible so that no out-side influences affect the design process (I mean unwelcome influence).

Eph- Thanks, man! Yeah, I think I really need to post those as well to be critted better.
Rist-I have lots of unfinished environment crap. I think it's the design and color theory aspect I'm lagging. Hopefully that will be addressed next june because I'm enrolling in interior design. Right now I think I have 2 months till first classes start and I think I should just be back on track with anatomy and painting till that day
    Pat-I will! I have bigger versions...but crap..hehe
Lazy-Wow, man! If you ever come to the Philippines I'm sure you will be a celebrity! We have lots of celebs like that...hehe. I did that Harrison ford while watching Bob Kato dvd's. Really great stuff!
Vaei-Great sense of color? HAHA! Not really...I struggle with it dude!
Matsign- Thanks! What I do is straight from Nick Pugh dvd. All the time my eyes are closed and just let my hands glide at the page. And then step two is block it in with a marker. You get some unique designs that way.
    Pretty quick and easy!
Rist- Yeah did that too! With Vyle brushes up top! Those arch brush bundled in the dvd is heaven!
jMarkus-But you are so much better, man. You are 19 and can whoop my ass! Thanks!

Oh yeah...sorry about not changing my sig...I don't know how to do it!
Somebody did that for me last time...

I'm really liking these environment and ship thumbnails, man. Some of those ship shapes are real gems. The most recent image of ship thumbs is the best, in my opinion, because the patterns inside work well with the silhouettes. In your earlier ship thumbnail sheets, the patterns and values inside were often pretty random and didn't compliment the outlines as well as they could have.
You have such great technique with graphite and charcoal. Your values are smooth (but not too smooth) and your outlines are crisp. Your anatomy is also kicking some serious ass, as are your portraits. That girl sipping from the cup above the not-Darryl Hannah, for example. That's a damn good face. Great anatomy and expression in that one.
Now post your darn raptress experiments so I might have something more to crit, okay? Jeepers creepers.

I really like what I'm seeeing here. great studies. not much for crits 'cept a KEEPITUP

One thing if I may though... kinda impossible thing to say I realize as I don't give you any option to answer... anyway to get to the point::::

If you say that a habit is too hard to break, I promise bro, it will be. Not because it is, but because everytime you hear yourself say it or see it as you write it, you unconsciously come to believe it a little more, until one day it is for you true as daylight...

many people do this, and I still slip as well (life's an neverending journey towards the ultimate expression of yourself::: but there's no finish line, just new beginnings... )

You are doing good. really! search out and be aware of the areas you need to improve, and work on them of course, but don't bang yourself over the head with not knowing what you haven't learned yet....

anyway, sorry if it was too much.

    Yo Bard!
Really cool stuff! You're reproductions at the top of the page are kickass, and I really like the domino paintings!
As usual your rendering is awesome! Keep it up and finish those drawings!

I've been super slacked off on the posting, with my last semester really picking up in workload, but I've got a new project I'm working on with a friend, hopefully I'll start posting again soon.

    Thanks, all...

Villain portraits...I need help on these so i thought I'll post it also in the Crituque section..I reaallly want something done-done.

So to start it off, Sauron portrait...
It started while i was viewing Craig Mullins "Jungle Knight" illo.
Very low key lighting, so I thought I'd try it like that.

And this Venom was also studying the great Neville Page dvd about rendering flesh. What I noticed is the face is not in perspective and I think i really need something to reference the retractable teeth? And maybe it's more spidery like.

I mean some problems I'm aware, but I hope some more added criticisms before i take it to a finish would be nice.

OldNoobie-Thanks, that is next on the agenda Only there's just to much to learn and i feel I'm back on the "sporadic?" kinda learning and learn everything at once mode. AAGHH! But more of those before school starts hopefully...
Moai-Thanks, Those ships are nothing hehe. Just for a rough start. I take the to photoshop and skew them in perspective and hoping to build a cool design.
Took some of 'em to a finish too, post them later. You are too gracious with your comments, thanks. I'll post the raptress a day after this because it's on another pc. But I finally came done to a gilamonster/ black headed phyton/ring neck- esque design...And some variants. Thanks for all the help!
On the mean time howzabout my Villains, eh?...they're kinda right up your alley too! So i'll be expecting a crit! Please!
b.one-No way, man... I love being preached! Thanks a bunch for that, you are so right. Wow..gotta stop saying that. Thanks, for bringing it up to me, come to think of it I was that for years in some of my posts in other forums.
MaxMarin- Thanks a lot! On my way sir! You have lovely stuff on your sketchbook! I got a whole week of nothing but Villpu/Mentler studies this past week...
Vaei-Thanks buddy, those enviros took about 10-15 mins or longer because i start with just doing things with markers then scan them and deal with them digitally. Overlaying some of the peices together to come up with something.
evolutionofshaun-The prodigal son returns!!! Post some of your stuff!
