Chris, long time since I've been over to this thread. Hey! I just downloaded a cool free program called Blacksmith 3D that lets you paint objects in 3D. It's pretty good for a freeware program. There are a few videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to use it. Definelty worth a try! Nice stuff.

As you know, the Games Convention, one of the largest videogame conventions in the world is taking place in Germany (Leipzig) this week. So what’s better than playing games you ask? I would say “Reading Comics.” ... but this week there is another answer: Getting into ‘Making Games’!
You now have the chance to get all the knowledge you need to get into the world of game creation with reading the new German magazine ‘Making Games’. It is the new format of the magazine ‘GameStar/dev’ the biggest game developer magazine in Germany.
In this new issue (which is available NOW!) you will find part 3 of my 3D-workshop where I show the 3D-mapping of a 3D-game model.



I just wanted to let you know so you can get the new magazine. If you are at the Games Convention make sure to check out the fantastic magazines.

Today I have something controversial. Mhhh... not exactly my work but the pose and layout of the following comic cover.

The story behind this image: I was asked to do a comic cover for Bluewaters 'Hillary Clinton' comic which will be out in January '09. It should look like an already finished quick cover version (which had a fourteen stripes american flag) from another artist. You can see the other artists cover HERE.
The cover design had to fit into the IDW books about Obama and McCain with cover art from J. Scott Campbell (see HERE).

I did a new version of the cover and Sven Strangmeyer (My creative partner on the 'Ray Harryhausen Presents: It Came From Beneath The Sea... Again!' mini-series) colored the cover.

And here is the finished cover with added title graphics by Bluewater...



The final cover fits into IDWs covers of Obama and McCain and was planned to fit into this other two political comics from the beginning.

I never thought about 'stealing' a design or pose here because I didn't have thought in terms of publishers or artists on this one but only from a political view because the 'comic' audience on this one is complete different.

What do you (as artists) think about the similarity to the IDW cover designs?

I always appreciate good feedback like yours. IDW stands for "Idea and Design Works, LLC" which is publishing two other political comics about Obama and McCain as I have written at the top of my last post. Thx again!

I'm heavily involved in the new browsergames company 'Rough Sea Games'!

I'm creating art for a multitude of game elements. I can't get into details yet but it really is HUGE!

What do you (as artists) think about the similarity to the IDW cover designs?

frist impression: the idw-covers have a more cartoony style/line, while your cover has a more realistic feeling. i think the idw-covers give more impression of political satire than yours, because the lines remind me on editorial cartoons.
i'm not talking about quality, hope you don't get me wrong.

For today I have something special. Something every comic book artist/writer is dreaming of... his own creater owned story. Okay... it isn't the whole deal yet, but I will show you my final promo image for my creator owned three-part comic miniseries 'MAYA' I'm writing and drawing.
I have posted some colored sketches and even a promo piece before in this thread. They all are ideas I had in mind for the grown up version of the main character as the story was in development.

This image shows a young MAYA with her 'best friend'. Can't get into more details yet... but even without I really hope you dig the first (real) promo to the series:



I am still working on the Ray Harryhausen series and will do my own right after the Ray Harryhausen mini is finished.

hey man sorry I haven't dropped by in so long, really digging the updates I've missed.

some crits: the colours in the enviro looks slightly too over-saturated...i think if you make say the shadows more muted it would work better

the comic looks pretty sweet man, congrats! I think the glow around the title is a bit cheesy though...and oh yeah...her left boob (our left her right) looks kinda defying gravity there

really digging the badass rabbit and the low poly house...keep up the great stuff!

The Maya stuff looks pretty neat. The teddy Bear's expression is kind of unreadable, which makes it that much more interesting. What's going on inside that stuffed head? I agree with paperx about the boob though.

As always your work is a lot of fun to look at. I love the rough sea games enviro.
