Thanks mate, Guess I'm finally on the way. But still too little practice. Gotta work on that, but personal stuff's keeping me off of anything creative at the moment. Here's something I forgot in my update. A 3d mesh, modeled and textured (diffuse, specular, emissive, no normal yet, but to come), as a workflow test. Took 2,5 hours, which is way too much for such a little crappy mesh. Working on it... Shot is from Unreal Engine, where it will be placed. A lot to learn, I missed 3 years of technical advancement.

Danke, freut mich, dass es gefällt

An Update on the lamp model, another half hour in to fix some geometry and do some polishing on the textures. Normalmap still missing. Also, some of the guys in my regular forum wanted me to paint a speedy themed "riot", so here it is.

Trying to update more often. I never felt more motivated to work on my paintings, drawings, game stuff, but work is keeping me busy. Anyway, still trying. Also, I began building the interior of the wind-thingy on the last page. I plan to fill it with all kinds of scientific stuff, as if some genius is living up there to have a little rest (Freud would really love this thing).

EDIT: Last one for today. James Bond intros have always been my favourites. A shame no one cares for title sequences anymore.

Thanks guys. I was so happy when I found out I had 3 new posts in my sketchbook this morning

This is the poor result of the last few weeks. Some redux speedpaintings and some doodles.

    EDIT: Guess this is 200.

Thanks, pals. No Country For Old Men was the best movie for years, now only The Dark Knight can steal the show.

    Happy Easter!

Apart from the No Country For Old Men study with the guy squatting, no ref involved in 95% of my work and colors are never ever colorpicked. I'm not proud of it actually, because even with the far too small amount of experience I have gained lately, I can see the obvious mistakes that come from me not using reference. But I'm stuck right now. I know I still haven't painted or drawn a decent mouth yet, but no matter what I do (ref or no ref), it doesn't change. My system isn't the best it seems. Now that I'm attending University, I will finally be trained in that kind of stuff, so I hope I'll get it all a little more stable over the next year.

I forgot I finished the lamp some weeks ago. Most people crit that the older versions looked better, but I think they just looked like 90% of all brownish mainstream trash produced nowadays. So I took a more graphical approach with this final version. Then a quick temple/ritual place, about half an hour. And a model I made for a high-poly scene I wanted to make but turned out my concept was rather boring.

Thank you, atlantik. I really appreciate it.

I came back from the German sketchmeet yesterday and had no time yet to scan the stuff I've done there (it's not much actually, and not good as well). Had a hell lot of fun, great weekend. I'm still suffering of the sleeplessness, so here are just two digitals from today after I saw Hermann using some nice brushes. Wanted to try that. Also, could someone tell me how to push the values a little? I usually watch the histogram very cautiously, but my images tend to look bland in a way I can't find out why.

    hello jabo!

Was cool meeting you in germany and now I can have a look at your digital work also. Looks great! About your value problem:

Maybe it is an idea to copy your whole image once in a while, then put it in a new file, set rgb to grayscale (or whatever it was exactly) and shrink the image. This will give you a nice little map which you can use beside your actual drawing to see where your values go wrong. That way you can also test wether your values need to be darker or lighter etc. on that little drawing in a relative easy and fast way.

Daniel: Thanks. Yeah I might look into that technique. Gotta figure out how to use my brushes effectively to spray some more values into the whole thing.

Tigermilk: Thank you Sir. Glad you like it. Yeah, faces are a problem, as is the human form in general. I'm looking for good anatomy books at the moment. Recommendations appreciated.

    Great Paint

I really dig your painting, with the light effects. I like the yellow buildings one, and the monolithic looking thing painting - really cool sci-fi feel. A fine detail "massive" type work would really take one of those over the top.

Nice work Jab, What 3d progs you using? I like the way you suggest a lot of form with only a few tones, but i would be tempted to slap in a few really dark darks and a dash of light here and there. One thing you could try is to have a duplicate of your finished image on a layer above your base, then run the auto levels, balance etc on it... then add a gradient layer mask to half reveal your work under neath... it can help you push the values etc.. if you want a piccy let me know.. ;-)

well, I can't say I'm an expert on finding good material regarding anatomy, but I have to say this one - http://www.amazon.com/Drawing-Human-.../dp/0289800897 - "Drawing Human Anatomy" by Giovanni Civardi is something definitely worth looking in to if you haven't. I use it most of times. It's really great.

Hey man, was great meeting you in Germany. Although we only made silly jokes, and we had no real conversation. I think

Anyway where are the drawings from saturday night! You know what ones I'm talking about :p

Duq: I'll scan them ASAP, but I don't have a scanner at home. There's no way they won't be published tho, as they clearly were very... imaginative. Crazy? Perverse? On the honest side of things, I regret we didn't really get to talk to each other due to my drunkenness. I'll make up for that next time

Nate: Thanks. It was really cool talking to you. Hope you'll join the fun this summer so we can actually make some art together Sorry wegen der Mutter-Witze, aber er hat angefangen
