Wow! Your work is awesome! I feel kinda stupid asking this, but you work rather large and im wondering if you use any aids like a projector or if you are working over a grid from smaller roughs or something? I would like to work larger and am wondering if i should practice drawing larger or not? I usually just draw in my 8.5 by 11 sketchbook. Your rendering is awesome, keep on rocking.

    beautiful work

I am constantly amazed at the subtle transitions of values, the rendering of a subject to catch a part of the souls essence just moves me. You have been able to really express your subjects in a wonderful way.

I caught myself staring throughout reviewing your work. Just sitting and staring. I also found myself staring at Mike Butkus work. I am not comparing the works of you two, your works are different. But the same intensity, the conviction, the work that is poured into the effort of bringing captured moments beyond what a camera could create just bumps into the wow admiring range.

The staring I realized might be what I think folks who are not artist do because the miracle of hand to canvas, to paper, to whatever created effort is a tangible expression of a 1000 words that hardly touch the emotional impact of a work lovingly brought to life. I think one senses the billions of hours and thought it takes to bring a vague vision to reality.

From my pov...it is about learning how light is caught, how shadows are expressed, how values transition into one another, the quality of line, the weight of the stroke, the discovery of interesting abstract shapes within a piece..on and on...all of my wonderment I know is self centered..I am wondering if I will ever be able to bring my own work to life in the way other artist such as yourself have done.

sigh beautiful art has an emotional as well as cerebral impact. right now though I am emotionally responding to beautiful work. I am worried that I have written too much already or I would write comparison to other artist current and from the past. Whitaker works come to mind. ok ..I am moving my hands away from the key board....hmmmm guest I should hit the reply button first...

Demo from my Akron Ohio Workshop

Here are some images from a free drawing demonstration that I did at The Salmagundi Club in NYC in conjunction with the Hard Times Exhibition., I thought that i would auction off the drawing as I did it, and donate the proceeds to the Bowery Mission so that those who are having some real hard times could benefit a little from the exhibition. We started the bidding at only 5 bucks and were able to raise 1600 bucks for the Mission. I had a great time and I hope to do more of these in the near future everyone wins, the students get a free demo, the art actually helps someone in need in it's sale, and I get a free model for 3 hours.

    Your work is fabulous.
By the way, what is it that you're applying with a palette knife on picture 7?

You're motivating me even more to get some traditional drawing done for my incoming intake for an artschool here in Holland.

    Canson, yes or no ?

Great work David, for a long time I`m studying your technique of drawing and painting and trying to do the same, but ...
I used Canson pastel paper and I not got the same result. Are there differences between the Canson and TONPAPER?

    Thanks

Totally fantastic, how long does one your paintings normally take?
