ahhh, I feel like a hopeless sinner in hell, being fried... a little clue, just a little one...half of the kingdom for a little clue?...Man... those lovely brown eyes look so familiar... and her bony chin too... you can hang teapot and towel on the chin like this... She looks so all put together... modern working woman... TV personality? looks like one more anchor... Hehe... so much fun... even so I can't scream victoriously in your thread her name...

So I will talk about your technique then, OK? to save my face . we all know what's wrong with other people ...

About caricature actually no crits... love the depth in her hair and lovely leaking colors. Overall very tasteful, very strict taste overall in your book, IMO.

But I would like to say very politely and without any expectation you will use it.. that you constrain your watercolors sometimes with very thick outlines and definite borders and it sort of kills unpredictable and lyrical nature of this medium...IMO... especially in this last one... you say you wanted rhythm... and you made it frozen instead... What I love about watercolors is that you can't predict their behavior 100%... and their feature when they kind of soak through pores of paper, through your say so and behave as they wish and make this lovely little floods outside the form you prepared for them... Such a gentle indefinite medium... like young girl... never know what it is on her mind,,, maybe nonsense... but she is silent and you think more of her than she is .

The male nude doesn't have so much control from your side and it looks much more natural and relaxed... but very energetic ... thanks to color and contrast of shadows and light...
well that's all. and I'm ready to guess again...Celine Dion... ??? Got a help for this one...
Aha ... you are from Canada... well I think it is a bull's eye then .

post 279 errr celine dion? the shitty pop singer.Err maybe I am wrong, dont know too many american celebraties.and I swear I didnt read SVes post before guessing.I kinda agree with sve about the the lates figure though, the line doesnt have that much rhythm as normally seen in your work. But the colors are better than fine. The way the greens , reds are mixing with brown is splendid. Exquisite I say.

::sve:: HI, I agree with you that the egonkinda thing does not atually have rythm. I was mainly trying to imitate his watercolor filling style. There have been amazing artists who used watercolor in a very controled way, giving great results. Carol Carter is a contemporary one as many others. I like to try stuff, and going in unknown territory sometimes. Even if its not the way I would feel comfortable of even a way I like, I will go there to learn. The outlines and controled washes are part of it. If I can control, then when I relax its not only because I CANT control its because i WANT to relax

    ::Bhanu:: thnk you (read above)

You guys won it is actually Celine Dion.

This one you probably dont know the guy. His name is Pinchas Zukerman, he is one of the living legends of violin.

wow now thats looks like a full fledged caricature , very much something that can be published in the best of magazines and be put in the finest of galleries ,there was some self restriction earlier maybe because you were walking in the unknown but this is what a fine caricature should look like, beautifully done.
. thanks for the explanation of your experimentation. Now even I am spurred to do some experimentation .
    godspeed.

Hmmm, temperament and manner to dress and comb scream Ludwig van Beethoven for me... Very close personality,,, gruesome, lonely, strong and miserable... a lot of personality, individuality in the face, wide person,, a lion...and on the famous portrait he wore a red necktie, not blue... so I have to sadly admit i expect you to smile and say no...But would be it cool if you sit in Canada in 21the century and paint caricature on the Beethoven... It is rare. hehe, I think it is a great painting, but it will not be music schools who buy it... they are serious people.
It is a very nice caricature though , I appreciate subtlety in your caricatures overall... I like how lovely you made his slightly wild chin, blue hue... that's very nice.

I like the portraits of your friends as well. alive people and fine performance...
The pencils traces spoil beauty just a little bit . hehe.

hey solon, greatttt caricatures, especially that Zukerman one. the tone shifts are so subtle and beautiful. i love how you treated the jaw so subtly with that cooler color. the frazetta copy is a great change to see as well, it truly looks authentic. keep up the good work man your stuff is only getting better and better.

::sve:: YOU GOT IT! Its Beethoven, its actually a commision. can you believe that they offered me 100$ to do that? (2 hours of work) I will be in a program for the National art center Beethoven festival looooooool!!!

::dakoscwash:: Thank you! I gave it to Zuckerman himself and he liked it too

::bhanu:: Thank you man! Actually the wierd thing is that I find it really easy to do thoses but now I am a bit bored. Its actually not the kind of thing I would like to have facility with.

Time to shake out of caricature.

First one is a figure without reference just to checkout where I was in my body studies...still suck but less than I used too. The other one is a experience to render beard...the technique is called overly-wet-in-wet-gouache-mess. I think it turned out pretty well.

always nice to see what you've been up to. i love the wet in wet mess. his beard looks almost like a waterfall and the colours are nice. i wonder what would happen if you take those cartoons and combine it with the more unpredictable and loose style of some of the other watercolours. having the charicatures but breaking away from the bit more cartoony way of rendering them and instead rendering them even more loose/gesture-like could be a nice variation on the theme?

::shyamshriram::Eh thank you man, A rapidograph is a technical pen, mine is a koh-i-noor. It does very black and waterproof lines (if you get the good ink in) and a steady width.

::bhanu::Eh you got it,Bush it is. Your good! I like to do those but I dont know why, everytime I feel good about something I do I am looking for something else if not im not getting excited enough. I often comes back but later.
