    Marco's sketchbook

so.. hi! I've been lurking the site for months, now it felt like it was time to join and start getting some real critiques.

I'll keep it short: I'm an 18 years-old italian guy who wants to be a concept artist - or something close enough to that. I've been painting in photoshop for maybe an year or so, now I'm waiting to finish high-school, then I'll probably go to an art school here in Rome.

I'll use - or at least I'll try to use this thread to post sketches, speed paintings and all that kind of stuff. Hope to get some feedbacks. The attached image is my latest painting, for older stuff just check my blog.

the environments are very nice, in the last one i´d say it has a great result for an hour of work! About the first one, the house roofs are bothering me a bit, maybe you have to revise the perspective a bit. Keep it up!

hey guys, thanks a lot for the feedbacks!
@Ricardo Robles: definitely agree with you about the roofs, I should have painted those with more attention. Thanks!

new environment.. I made (too) many mistakes in this one, so I decided it was not worth continuing it. But I'm very satisfied with what I've done with colors and composition, so it's still good practice.

hi again, today I wrote twice this post but it kept telling me to wait for moderation, so I'm trying again. If it's going to work, then: I've been, for the first time ever, drawing with the serious face on and I'll probably keep doing this until I'll be able to draw faces in a decent way, at least I have to make them look like are not monsters. Not an easy task, but I can do it. So yeah, these are my first attempts at this, I'm pretty sure that if I can make 6 or 7 more pages like this I'll probably manage to draw the single elements quite well. That's what I hope anyway.

Most of the references used are from algenpfleger's studies and a Loomis' book.

Does any of you guys have a good site or book where I can find a lot of references for this kind of stuff? I'm really into Loomis' book (Drawing the Head and the Hands) and I'm looking for other books of that kind, with stuff to draw and texts that explains it theoretically

Really love the colors of the mountains of your first painting. What is the white space beneath it? I would suggest cropping the bottom of the image closer to the shadow of the mountain. The white space at the bottom is almost the same size as the large sky space at the top of the painting.
    Just a thought.
    Cheers.

@CreativeSage: Hey man, thanks a lot! No idea about what is the space beneath. It's one of those things that you put there at the beginning of the painting and then forget about it.

here's a few more drawings. They're pretty bad, but I guess it just needs time.
