Hey man, I really like the vines/tree/rock thing. With your paints you should be thinking much much simpler. Don't try to define muscle! Just think of the blocks, cylindrical shapes and spheres that make up the figure and start there. Make sure you have a light side and a dark side and all of your shadows are accurate. You should only go into detail (muscles, folds on clothing, etc) because you have nothing else to do. Then it doesn't take much. The guy's head is the most clearly defined thing but you could push the dark side of it a little darker. Keep up the good work, there's improvement with every post!

man, I'm getting a lot of work, i mean a lot... I haven't even played Halo 3 yet...
sooo here is some stuff from class today which I liked. There is a good explanation of line weights that I wanted to share on the first page. It's pretty useful when you're designing.
the smaller drawings were all timed and from our heads, it was a fun exercise.

Hahaha, I haven't even played Bioshock yet and I've had that for a month! Nice lines. Also note that you can use line weight to show where the light source is and emphasize points of action or interest. What you've got going is looking good!

PS: Do more figure drawing so you can give me more crits!!!

Simple SHAPES not values. This is really rushed becuase I don't have much time but hopefully it gets my point across. Also when you do put colors make sure not to oversaturate!

Good updates, keep them coming -
I like those everyday items in post 123, actually! Great line weights.
Implement more line weights into your "scratchy" stuff = fiddle around with it, experiment! And don't play too much Halo!

Oh yeah, thanks for the tip with the shiny metals - it helped mucho.
    oh, here's my sketchbook.

Also, my website. It would get beat up in a fight.

Waywaywaywya better! I still think you could tone down the white parts on the shadow side just a little so they're not as light as they are on the light side. Cars and doodles are looking good - watch the length of the faces though, they are looking a little stretched out. Hahah we all feel like slackers - just draw more!

thanks for the replies dudes. when i check my email and i see a notification that somone replied on my sb, it's like a mini-xmas here is a decent dump of some stuff, not so good and not so bad. I've been drawing a lot of space ship concepts but they are really terrible. I may show them because they are so bad its fun to laugh at anyways, im botching the explosion in the sky on my painting, I don't really like it. Guess i gotta think of somthing else to put in the bg!

    Update-tastic!

I really do like your hatching line style. Perhaps I should employ something similar as I'm trying to learn how to paint without lines...you know, like a value-stepping-stone
But yeah - that homeless dude or whatever, 2nd from last, is great - he's simple, but he shows nice line variations.
Perhaps the dude-in-progress needs even more dramatic lighting now that there's a huge explosion in front of him

    Keep it coming

Yeah if the explosion is there then he is lit wrong. I thought it was to his right and almost level with him from how you lit the figure. Keep practicing, i see improvement!

    k. im gettin the hang of line weights now. i did some concepts for an aircraft and a hellochopper that i like. the boat came out sweet too : )

yeah i know the lighting is all wrong for the dude, i am not ging to use the xplosion, its yicky anyways dunno if i have time to continue him, i'd rather keep learning how to use my pens and markers than painting now. I view learning traditional meduims more important.

well here is a dump. some good some bad, as usual
im thinkin of buying a scanner, but i may wait for Christmas or somthing, i stopped borring my friends cause its really annoying snagging it and plugging it in and stuff, that's part of the reason i've been updatings so infrequently =\

Boat and gun look great! Some of the other stuff is looking pretty graphic, which might be what you're going for. Keep striving to think in 3d!

your art has improved a ton since your first page.. you still need to work a bit on your character anatomy but other than that your artwork has been improving and thats what the whole point of the sketchbook is about so good job !! keep it up!

hey man great work here your diligence is admirable keep it up
some things to keep on eye on,
-line quality, make sure that your lines are solid and less sketchy, it is ok to have sketchy lines at the beginning but just make sure you clean it up a bit by the time you are done
-shading, make sure when you shade that you arent just shading to shade make sure that your shading adds to the form and shape of the object dont just shade to shade, and also dont just scratch in the darks with lines , rather block in the form with a thick part of the lead so that it is all unified, also so the texture isnt wack

but ya nice work keep it up and ill see you around

zOmg, i r posting on my threadz.

look out, new scann0r. it pawns too.
    Epson Perfection v200,

oh right, i got a new comp tha ti built myself, so i am full fledged nerd now but yeah, i got photoshop CS3 too, and it is so purrty and the new way it is laid out, like Flash MX was is SO helpful cause you can see the entire picture instead of it being covered by panels, lol.

    k, so

during the break, I established many projects for myself. the main one that I will be updating on here for is simliar to the final i had last year in which I took my friends and made them Zombies / Swat dudes. This time, I am going to have them rollin out on a space ship. I don't know if i should have them all be crew members, or what. I kinda want to stay away from weapons on this one >< So i am thinking like an exploratory trip to another planet or something. So anyways, here is a start. It's the profile of their spaceship. I'll update again in a bit with a colored sketch aswell. I am excited I hope you guys are too.
