Some attempts at drawing Clint Eastwood, i am so bad at faces, I lost my nack for them.

I think during my senior year at school, i got more concerned with speed thatn quality, so i lost alot of my skills at shading and details becuase of not practicing them.

During my Visual Language class we were discussing some photographs taken by my fellow students and a silhoutte (spelling? haha) stood out to me, added a hand, some wierd quote from our discussion as well.

'It is being uneducated, art makes culture and culture is the most important thing in the world." somthing like that, we talk fast haha.

Due to my dissatisfaction of my clint eastwood attempts, i followed them up with a study on the structure of the head, found a nice page and followed it, i think it may have helped a bit.

Hey jdeegz, thanks for stopping by my book. I can see some improvement already in this short time. Keep up the figure drawing, it's the best way to improve. If you want some good ideas/anatomy to help your figures, try out Bridgeman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life, or Andrew Loomis' books. Bridgeman should be easy to find, and loomis can be found online. Always make sure to break things into simple shapes when drawing, and focus on proportion and accuracy before doing detail (such as the contour or value). I look forward to seeing your progress! man i wish i had a better way to get stuff on here =\ im just using a camera and taking a picture, the paper is white, but comes out orangy so i gotta fiddle with photoshop alot. anyways, i think this is my favorite atm, whatcha think?

The faces are looking good. Torso looks too stylized. You should know the ribcage and pelvis (or at least simplified versions for now) and how the muscles lay on top of them like fleshy drapery. With regards to hands, try to learn the anatomy and construct from simple shapes, although it mostly just takes doing them over and over.

About the camera, you just have to get better at taking the pictures, and try to have as much light as possible (sunlight, lamps, flash from camera). That's the only way i can figure out. Still usually takes messing around in PS.

Keep it daily, thats the best way to improve.

haha thanks, im trying to keep it daily but between partying and allready assigned homework my time is tight, but really this community is really inspiring me to draw, i feel way more compfortable than when i had started sketching!

Hey, i got these books, Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing From Life, and Loomis' Figure Drawing for All it's Worth. These two books are awesome, thank you so much for reccommending them.

i did a few Loomis works. the first one i copied and and practiced, the 2nd is all form my mind except for the figure on the left. i love this way of drawing the human form its really effective of showing motion and balance.

I'm trying to get my pencil strokes to be more fluent instead of what loomis says as "Petting" the lines which i am used to doing.

Hey yo, i had some ideas for a bigger composition so i sketched them out, one is a female being looked at by her capturer or somthing, its not fully developed haha. and the second is a man on the ground being stuck by another man wielding some type of weapon. lemmie know what you think!

You're coming along quite nicely, it seems. Keep it up. Draw lots of live people! It's ridiculously helpful, and it never stops being a goo idea.
I especially like that one face near the top, right under that chick's portrait sketch, that's all grainy and robert-crumb-ish in style. I'd like to see it up close, actually.

Yo. Keep up the anatomy studies, they are looking good. When digipainting, use the biggest brush possible for each area, only use small brushes when you have to. Do as much life drawing as possible, anywhere you can! Keep it up.

Keep it up! You were asking about connecting heads to bodies - the jaw connects halfway to the back of the head, right below the ears, and two bigh neck muscles decend from there and connect at either side of the "v" of the collarbone.
When the head is divided by thirds, the brow and top of the ears are at the top line, and the bottom of the nose and ends of the jaw are at the second line. Get an anatomy book and draw from life, oh yes.
And yes, I'm making due with a mouse, as I don't have a pad. I usually do cell shading with the laso tool (comic style)...
