Sketch Ragadump :: Update Dec 14 - More Nakid Gurls and such

Hey, y'alls! I'm a newcomer here, so I thought I'd make a sketch thread and let my pictures speak for me...
In addition to that, I'm 24, Comic artist from Sweden. I hope you guys can give me some nice pointers for my future evolution, I have to crush the opposition.. This is a small country and there isn't room for any contenders, lol
Anyway, enough bullshit from me, and onto the real stuff.

I'll post some of my most recent sketches as a starter, and update whenever I've got something new.

Two characters from my Mascartropolis comic, The Alien and Lillie.

More of those two. Long and stupid text in Swedish.

Characters from my current comic, TANKS. Anna the secretary (sorta stolen from Shirow's Dominion) and Mirella in some sort of Simpsons-inspired style.

More of Anna, Lillie and random characters

More characters from TANKS, Mirella and Taki.

Another Shirow copy, but I learned a lot from this. Might post the finished colored version up in FW.

We are Pretty Cure! Lovely show. Some fanart.

    Out-of-shower girl.

TANKS characters. Mardon Mariposa and Anna.

    Character from Mascartropolis, Tiff.

Made for a "design a new sports outfit" homework. She's a circlebike rider, the skis on the arms and the balls on the knees are for the narrow turns, almost lying down on the asphalt.

More Mascartropolis, Lillie and random girls.

And the last one for now. One pic with a theme from the 3CH random theme generator, and Anna again, now as a hotel piccolo.

    Hope you like it.

hi and welcome to the boards !
i'm glad to see you here!

You have a good sence of design but it gets lost in small anatomical issues. I think you need to think about perspective more and how parts are in relation to eachother.

    http://www.boomspeed.com/ragathol/ny/jndump283.jpg
like that one, the torso vs. hips area is way too elongated.
plus, maybe you should think about shapes and hmmmm...in lack of better words "formbraker"...like on her thigh, that line that defines a seam makes her look even longer.

this is just random thoughts and suggestions. Feel free to defend or take it to your heart.

cheers and keep on updating and drawing!

    My favourite!

    Thank yous.
Yeah, I have a problem with the torso/hip relation sometimes, especially in 3/4 view. One might think I'd do something about that, as most of my pics are in 3/4... I should draw more from photos and figure out how it's supposed to be. The thigh/crotch connection is tricky as well.
This forum inspires me a lot, so I hope I'll be able to learn a lot as well!

Some new pieces for tonight. A few monsters to fit in with the rest of the crowd here

Orc/Demon creature guy. His anatomy is all over the place, but I didn't plan this at all, just kept drawing. I still think it's pretty ok, and I'm pretty happy with the shading, I don't draw stuff like this very much. 6B Pencil.

Another bad guy, an Ogre from the TANKS comic. Also a totally new technique for me, sort of. I see it's being used a lot around here, so I thought I'd try it out, and it was pretty fun

No love for MONSTARS? Allright, some more cute stuff then! Sorta...

Millie's friends might not be the most beautiful bunch, but they always stick together! I've always wondered how all those crazy groups you see in fantasy art and stories stick together, lol

Some more Pretty Cure fanart. Trying to get some more values into my sketches.

Hey, this shading thing is pretty good fun.

We have a sketch/design course in school, and now we're doing idea/concept sketches for an imaginary game that's supposed to teach kids about technology. So I'm working on a Sim Life/Spore type of idea, where you create new robot animals from a lot of different parts and see how they adapt to life.

Mecha suit/robot. Maybe some kind of worker drone.

    Different head parts.

Sweet SB! Go Sweden, GO!... I'm one of the few(it seems) people that hasn't got cought up in manga. But dont get grumpy just yet... I have to admit that I loved Spirited away, and the creators other stuff too.
I like your style! Got some good stuff here indeed, especially like the robots. The first pic is nice, I like the design there. And this last head-page, favourites are; The second row furthest to the right, and at the bottom furthest to the right. Good stuff. You really seem to be good at people, positions n all that jazz. Thanks for the kind words in me SB, keep itup

Oh, Sweden is so about manga these days. But it's good, gives me work
But to be honest I'm moving away from it a little, I mean, I'm not really trying to draw manga, I'm just doing my thing and manga is my foremost source of inspiration. I just draw comics, inspired by various things and styles.

Thanks for your comments! I'll post more tomorrow, 4:30 am now and all that.

Bump the dump with some new material.
    If anyone cares.

    Some random stuffs:

Some more sketches from that mock-up game project. Main character designs and environments. This place is made all out of metal, with these ancient forgotten civilization buildings sticking up all over.

    Gimme your thoughts about it!

Hallu! We should totally have a DSU-club here at CA, seems like half of the class have got sketchbooks here

And now to the art then. The poses on these here characters are really dynamic and nice, which is of course good. The only thing I'd complain about on the characters would be that sometimes the eyes are so far apart that it looks sort of freaky. Great lines too. Really tight lines.
Maybe the Metal Planet Environments would do good with some shading or something to add some depth; on some of those pics, at first glance it's sort of hard to tell what's what.

spud: Thanks! Ahh, color takes time.. I don't have time.. >_<
    But I'll try.

Big Poppa: Haha, yeah! Petter, right? A lot of people say they're around here, but I only know abouty Björn's screen name...
The eyes, yeah. Always a problem, but sometimes I just let it be Working to tighten it up though.
And those environments.. I made half of them during the lesson, right before the presentation, so I couldn't go into too much detail XD
I thought I'd snazz them up with some grayscale depth for the final presentation.. if I find the time.

I've been playing A LOT of God of War lately, just managed to beat it on Spartan mode. So here's a little cartoony portrait of our anti-hero. First time I do something like this really. Any comments or crits are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, I will!

Oh my.. when I started this, I thought I'd just make some quick sketching, but it turned into a 4-hour piece and quite a nice painting, methinks.
It features the characters from Neoramen, a webcomic a friend of mine is making.
Hm, I'm quite happy with it. Dunno about the background though. Thoughts and crits appreciated.

You have improved a lot, I especially note that the way you draw faces has gotten a lot better, I've always found your style a bit awkward, especially on the girls, but now it's starting to look very nice. Your clothing skills have always stood out as good, and they are getting even better, awesome outfit designs, especially like that girl poking at the dead guy(?) with her foot.

You should practice some coloring and shading, that two-hour picture is indeed nice, the coloring does work, but it is a bit blotchy, and the background is quite weak. More natural colors would help, use reference for that, and more contrast could be good, mix in some sharp, defined spots. But if you work that way to touch up the BG you will probably need to add some more definition to the characters as well.

Cool to see people you recognize from elsewhere here on CA.

    Edit:
Oh, and study and practice clouds, clouds and sky-tones. Getting realistic, nice looking clouds and sky injects tons of goodness into a picture. That should definately be a subject for special study. Make a few nature-pictures with the sky in focus and post them here.

    Thanks, Tomte
    You're an old reader?
Yes, I still suck at backgrounds... no patience, I just want to draw characters -_-
Thanks for the tips though, I should study more indeed. I do want to be able to draw/paint good clouds, so I'll try to do some studies.

More! A character from my webcomic whose name I cannot yet reveal, and Dino!
    From drawing club at school.
