Wow dude, amazing work.

I understand what you mean and I admire your self discipline & motivation, as always. It's great to hear more people taking art so seriously; wanting to reach a certain level and not giving up, even on the tiniest details, including the process one goes through to create something.
I also love the fact that you are taking responsibility for your words and the only thing I can say is don't worry too much; know that good, honest, intelligent people will know how to read and understand your opinions and thoughts with a sound mind.
As usual, this latest piece is great. I look forward to seeing more of it, unless of course it's 'done'.

RE: Rant...
Makes sense. Though it seems if you're going to do all this work to become a concept artist, it seems it would be very important to make things 'look right'. So in a sense, you were working O.K. anyway.... just by your tweaking method.
But, if you want to be more artistic... possibly doing fine art pieces... the new approach seems to make sense.
Either way, you get better at stuff and it all works. But it would definitely be cool to be able to work, as you say, faster... and get a good result faster.

Thanks a ton guys, it's awesome reading all that opinions on all my blabla
Nothing fancy this time, just a few small skull studies. Basically trying out different stuff on each of those. teh first two are pretty quick, around 30mins-1hr maybe, the last one around 2 hours.
So yea not doing much more than experimenting right now. Its funny how it always gets back to basick sucking each time when you try a new approach. Like I painted that skull in the past a few times and they were all actually better than that last one for example, it's weird. It's kind of like the test if you're willing pushing through shitty times in order to achieve improvement, pretty cool!
I also uploaded the PSD for the last one, check it out if you like, its on my blog: http://cgbrush.org ! I kept all the layers for the different steps, also this one is pretty big but I never see the point downloading lowres PSD files from other artists just to check out how they arrange the layers, I'm always interested in seeing how stuff is actually painted and that only works with the fullres thing

Awesome work man, really inspiring. You have such great panting technique. One thing I would like to see though (and this is in no way a critique- just a desire! lol) is more colour in your artworks. Or should I say, more saturated and bright colour.
Mistle- thanks! well yeaaaa flashy color isn't really what I like painting so I guess thats the reason I don't do it too much. I fear however that I will have to drop in some colorful pieces for the sake of my portfolio, so maybe in the more or less near future
heyhouu,
some more skulls for you, one from imagination, the other one from life.
Its kinda strange painting those in that dim daylight conditions. They have that yellowish chalky color and the walls in my room have pretty much the same color, so when that cold windowlight hits the skull and the room all the shadows tend to get that weird muddy greenish color and only in the areas where there is a lot of subsurfacescattering going on you get that warm yellowish glow. It looks really strange and is quite a challenge to get right in a painting, but funfunfun, prepare for more!!As always the PSDs are online for you to look into on my blog: http://cgbrush.org .
One thing I have also been kinda experimenting with is this trying to find out how dark stuff needs to be painted in order to make the light read correctly. haha wow that sounds weird especially if you don't know what I am talking aboutThe thing is that in paintings, the lightest it gets is white, but in reality light is muuuch more intense, so in order to make bright highlights read like bright light in a painting, everything that surrounds it must be dimmed to get that effect. Really really challenging to get that right and I definitely still haven't got it, so be prepared for moooore skulls
This one is from life, around 1,5 hours
And thats a quickie from imagination, around 45 minutes:

Hey everyone.
yea it's been a while since the last post. The reasons for that being that I am pretty busy with freelance right now which is pretty cool, since slowly but surely my jobs are getting better and I am actually starting to work for companies nowand hope that I can keep working for them getting steady work. The second reason is that I also took it a bit more easy and actually tried to "live a live" for the last two weeks instead of just working. Weeeeeeeeell turns out that this probably wasn't the best idea (to keep it short) so now I'm back to just work again I guess.
So without further blabla, here is a quick terrible sad man from imagination and a painting that I started but which will never be finished unfortunately :/
See you next time!

Great update Christof! Really nice brushwork in both pieces, and the colours are especially nice in the second.
Been looking back at your blog quite a bit lately for help thanks to your downloads, in particular when it comes to rendering metal and painting enviros. Thanks for the help!
It makes me happy to see where you're at ,and how far you've come. Loving the painterly quality in your digital stuff.
Wow, how did you do the ear color tone in the vampire piece?
Looks so nice and effortless.
Charles- wow thanks man
mactire- thanks! Glad you like it !
kresh - thanks
kraytsao- thanks!! Well whcih vampire piece? you mean that dude from the last update? hahah kind of hard question, I hust chose the colors I thought were right hahah. Glad you like it!
Hey guys!
here's todays piece. I wanted to paint something like that for a long time now and since I had some time to spare between client responses I figured I should just do it.
Now because artists tend to get a lot of shit these days I am gonna mention that I referenced a black/white piece for the structure of the hair, so that if some of you guys finds my ref on google I am preventing the shitstorm
So Photoshop around 3hours
Wanna check out the Photoshop file? Go on my siiiite : http://cgbrush.org

Awesome skull studies here.. and the last concept is looking cool.. his legs definitely still feel a bit off, but better for not having the knees facing inwards as much now. You could always fudge it a bit and drop the left hand higlight off his leg toward the foot so the eye is less pulled towards the bottom half of the image... the metals are really nicely done so the eye wants to go to them anyhow..Fave image thus far is the girl's face study with that really strong green, has a great feel to it.
Hey, thanks so much for the skull photos, they're fantastic. Your progress and the way you share your thought process is very inspiring.
Do you think perhaps the reason you paint studies differently to your illustrations is because there is an unsolved problem in the illustrations, the solution to which is apparent in the studies? Perhaps you can identify and solve that problem before you start painting...
Just a thought. I have no freaking clue :p
Wow I'm amazed by the way you can capture volume, absolutely stunning! Especially the girl turned back - gorgeous hair, aand you can almost feel her neck. Really beautiful!
Stellar work here, and some real nice studies too, especially that hair study. Wow!
So happy to scroll down to to see you changed that dude's legs. He came out nicely and you did a great job on getting those materials to look realistic!
