Hey¡¡ I like the volume in the nude woman
lot- thanks!
just got Bridgman's complete guide to drawing from life and after studying bammes for quite a long time, I must say that expressive anatomy bridgman uses. It's huge fun to study all that stuff! So in some kindof way the new sketchbook starts like the old one, hehe
first one is a little ps doodle, tried to play around with colors a bit.

Hey good new stuff around here but i wouldn`t drawing missunderstand with mathi think you know what i mean.
I mean your Figures are not so dynamic, they are all the same... the poses are mostly similar to the others, try do bring more smoothness into the Figures.
And your Lineart... its very dark and allmost a bit messy, draw soft first and then harder lines.
Ok so lonk.
Keep it up, the last one is quite good.
(sry for my bad english dudes!)
tweaked it a bit in PS (damn I wish I had these idea earlier, my actual thunderdome-entry looks like shit, DAMN)
Oil on canvas, 60cm x 80 cm or something like that

it's getting interesting around here
keep drawing![]()
nice sketches, the anatomy studies look really promising. with practice, i'm sure you'll learn to apply those in your conceptual figures better.
don't forget to practice other foundational skills like shading surfaces and drawing objects in perspective.
keep up the good work!
Great start on the new book, the anatomy jams are lookin awesome.
The TD piece has a lotta damn energy to it, the dude on the left witht he spear turned out really nice. I think you might want to be more selective with the white highlights, there are a lot of bright spots in the piece competing for your eye's attention.
Keep on bangin man!
kliment- good to hear that!
notspecialist- thanks for the advice, man! Gonna work on that!
Andy P- thanks for pointing that out, man I will pay more attention to this in my following paintings!!
Okay here I am again! Wasn't able to draw the last few days since I was busy with organizing and partying my 18 birthday, but now that I am sober again and had some sleep I can get back to the drawing board again!
So here is a little bad dude for you, more to come later(tomorrow)

Hey good update!!
That raven guy or smth is realy interesting but this pic is so unfinnished that it hurts ^^.
don´t draw one part of the body and then the rest, you see that it is realy boring at the end and so you didn´t finished this one....
The anatomy... you studied a lot but imo it helped not that much as expected... especially the breast is realy confusing and other parts arent realy lifelike... sometimes it seems that there is no skin.
porportions are a bit off too, the legs are to fat and big.
Your shading technik is interesting but feels realy static, try to form the volume with curved lines and not straight lines....
Also mach weiter ^^
Keep it up and finish your sketches^^
hey Haxxxor:
maybe you are going to hate me now but here are my thoughts about your comment:
first thank you for the advice with my shading, you are absolutely right there and I have heard it many times and I will change that, thank you for pointing that out!
I also get the thing with the proportions, I noticed it and I appreciate as well that you took your time to point that out!
Concerning the rest of the comment:
First I want to say that I am the kind of person who appreciates each and every sensible crit that I get. If I didn't, I wouldn't post my stuff in here, Moreover I don't have a perosnal problem with critiques, I don't feel hate and I don't feel agony, I LOVE seeing that anyone takes time to think about the stiff that I do.
BUT
I can't stand critique that is written for the sake of saying anything, what means:
your comment seems damn pointless in many aspects:
you are here in my sketchbook thread, what means that this is a sketchbook, consequently you can find really much sketchwork in here, just becuase this is a sketchbook, okay? SOOOO if I create any finished artwork, I post it into the finished section because finished artwork belongs in there just because it is the finished section, okay? SO going into a sketchbook thread and complaining about the fact that you can't find any finished pieces in there is kinda........lame( as hurting as it might eb for ya).
FURTHERMORE:
obviously you crit my anatomy without being even able to put your finger even quite near the problem. Telling me that "this looks kinda strange" isn't worth shit and causes the thought in me that you don't have a clue about what you are even talking about ( wich doesn't mean that my anatomy is good, because I know that it isn't but saying that "this doesn't seem to look kinda right......or something....ehm" is as well kinda.....lame).
SO if you crit me than do it right, and don't talk any stuff like "this looks wrong but I don't have a clue what I am actually talking about". SO start a shitstorm against me as often as you like but PLEASE do it right!!
and concerning this special sketch: if you ahve taken a look through this thread (wich isn't that big), you might have noticed that I have mainly been studying torsos, and this makes the fact that I have worked on the torso kinda sensible, right ?
Moreover I am studying bridgman quite intense at the moment, and if you know that stuff, you do also know that it actually isn't really "lifelike" ( or how you want to call it) BUT it isn't even supposed to be "lifelike" bridgman is all about flow, rythm and ENERGY, and THAT is what I am currently studying. SO sorry for not being lifelike enough but that's something taht needs to be learned as well as "unlifelike" as it might be to you!
Again I CAN stand crit, as I mentioned above but PLEASE do it right and don't say anything if you don'T have anything to say. I want to learn and I don't want to spend my time getting pissed about that kind of stuff. Sure I know that you meant all this to be nice and helpful but please think ybout you write, pleeeease

Speaking as a lurker here, I'd just like to say that, although it is ultimately tautological to post finished work in a sketchbook, it's quite nice to see finished work in a sketchbook — it's awkward to hunt out a finished pieces thread.Originally Posted by Gloominati

You're hiding in a new book and neglect to tell anyone? Some great progress showing here. The anatomy studies are great and are really going to help you as you start working more from your head. Just always be mindful of what you've learned.
I'm going to recommend your next area of study you try and get into the shoulder and arm area. There's a number of issues in the recent studies, particularly with the location of the bicep as the upper arm rotates, and the deltoid's position on the shoulder.
Let's get specific-- on the "Yo Bitch" drawing, look at the shoulder on our left. Now think about HOW a muscle works. The muscle has a point of insertion and an origin-- the two ends that (usually) attach to bone via ligaments. The muscle acts by contracting, meaning it gets shorter and fatter. It doesnt actually lose mass. So when the arm is lowered at your side, the deltoid is almost a sheath over the ball of the humerous (upper arm bone). As the deltoid contracts to raise the arm, it shortens, thickens, and raises (stand in front of a mirror and raise and lower your arm a few times. Try putting your other hand on it to feel how it moves) Now in that drawing, given where you've placed the clavicle and acromian process, do you see how thin that deltoid is? It's like a deflated ballood, rather than the thicker shape it needs to have.
More on the biceps at a later date. Keep at those studies!!

ps: I love the headpiece design on that last dude. GREAT!!
.... hui
also nochmals...
okay sry for making trouble in this thread... i hope it is ok now.
ciao
Looks good.
The characters look a little "blocky", try drawing softer and going harder, perhaps more with graphite, and add more shadows.
Your paintings are impressive, especially the guy swooping down to the skeleton, its cool you're doing traditional painting as well.
bdfoster- thanks dude! Gonna go to the next chapter : "the arm". Yeah you're right I wasn't really thinking about how the muscle actually changes when it moves. great advice, gonna think about that in the future.
haxxxor-read bdfosters comment and maybe you will recognize how ignorant teh stuff is that you write, sorry.
lazy- thanks, gonna soften the shit
gonna update later, concerning scanning I m a lazy bitch

hey gloom!
starting a new sb without telling anyone!hehe, well after bdfoster's crit there isn't really that much I can add, just keep up this good start from your new sketchbook, and i'm sure this sketchbook will look even greater then your last one
yours,
daniel
edit: ps, everybody who has a link to gloominati's old sb, don't forget to change it ^^

Hey dude these studies are coming along pretty nicely, definitely shaping up those torsos a lot! I'd recommend working in a few ref or life drawings in with your bridgeman to get a better idea of the things that bridgeman is trying to point out with his drawings.
Nice work!
Study more light on portrait in lats work ...
chears
thanks for the advice dudes, gonna work harder, faster, better, mmmhh I'm so hot uh!
here we go again. some figurative stuff from ref. I have never actually worked with watercolors seriously, that's why I have always used crappy colors and a crappy synthetic brush. But this is has changed now, bought some high quality colors and a mixed-hair brush. So it's time to get serious with some water, hehe and it's fun as hell. Here are the first ones from yesterday night. I decided to draw the poses in pencil wich I couldn't handle with paint at once to get a better sense of form and construction.
more to come..

well couldn't find any time to visit the internet the last few days, nevertheless I kept filling the sketchbooks. Got "dynamic anatomy" by Burne Hogarth, what I am studying at the moment and I really have top say that this is probably the best book on construction that I have ever read. this guy answeres each and every question concerning construction and it's problems, that's just awesome.
well here is just a small extract from the study-work I have been doing these days, more to come later. I am just to lazy to scann al that stuff...
Moreover I did a lot of watercolor stuff, it's huge fun to paint with this media, alsways so nice and loose, just great!

stuff in post 27 shows a huge imrpovement with anatomy, and you're doing very good studies.I should try Bridgeman too, looks very interesting...brainfarts help ya putting together everything you've learned, so you need em to improve
keep the good stuff coming
