    monkey see monkey do

Bang bang. Finished. Any suggestions would be great because I will come back to it later on but now I have other things I need to work on.

Here is the sketch and base value layer I used to get started. These are both really simple because most of my designing was to be done as I painted.

Very cool piece. The vehicle itself is very well done. The design, coloring, details are very good. My two notes would be the tracks being in front of the vehicle instead of behind it (is it going in reverse?) and the man on the right, the arms look awkward, his left upper arm looks longer than his right.

No possible crits on the vehicle, but the soldier on the right is holding his gun very uncomfortably. I have never seen a soldier carry a gun flat infront of himself in that manner.

    One word "Impressive"

One question though, was it your intention to have the vehicle seemed to be rolling backward? because there aren't any track marks behind it or did it just made a hard right turn ? I'm nip-picking but I don't care about the logic. Beautiful piece. Keep them coming.

The vehicle is indeed glorious, but it certainly looks like all of the energy was used up in it. The lines on above the clouds are a little bothersome (perhaps its just the red though), the sun's rays are generally split up into shafts by the clouds descending, not the other way around.
The people are much too rigid; Their poses seem to lack the freedom that anatomical joints allow us (ballsocket joints, that is). and the man in front demands as much detail as the vehicle.
I'm sorry to provide so much negative criticism, but I feel that the vehicle is done so well that the rest of the picture should not be able to get away with distracting the viewer from your superb lighting (especially the front of the vehicle and those treads, wonderful!).

These are all fantastic critiques. Lol I had'nt even noticed theres no tracks behind the vehicle. I will paint those in. The vehicle is going forward and I added tracks infront as if to say others have gone before it.

Thanks for pointing out the problems with the soldier. I totaly see what you all are saying. Going to fix that also. Thanks.

Johnnyhorse . yes, please negitive is good. I think any artist wanting to learn would rather hear whats bad about their image instead of whats good. The lines above the clouds are actually just style which I used to point to the vehicle but they are too pronounced so I will fade them back. It's true I spent most of my time on the vehicle. actually at the beginning I just was doing a rendering of a vehicle for my portfolio but then felt as if It could be something more so I proceeded to add elements. I agree about the people. I'm going to do abunch of illustrations with people the next few days and I'l see if I can overcome the stiffness.

was going to mention the soldier's awkward method of carrying his rifle, but I see it's already on your radar. So I'll instead just say that the vehicle is smokin'

you may actually be better off just losing that guy altogether

Okay, I just looked at your sketchbook and there is NO reason why those people should look like that. Those foreshortened arms and shoulders are really accurate. Now, just translate that over to this picture (or just get infront of a mirror and take note of how your shoulders and arms are positioned similar to a soldier. And while you're at it, add some superflous doodads to that soldier (his vest, arms, and helmet) that add some roughness/detail--it'll make it more fun to paint, i swear.

I think it's great. Even the faults concerning the soldier in the f/g don't bother me much. The only thing I'm not convinced about is the ghostly image in the sky, not sure what place something like that has in a concept piece.

The vehicle is very well done... I like that sky... keep keeping on...Good luck.
Remember it's not work....ppl say oh that's alot of work, you've done so much work, can I see your work? I say it's fun. A friend mentioned that so and so artist never had cable well I added who would if you are such and such artist.

Also I remember this story: Vasari who was a muralist and had all his work taken down before he passed away [to make room for Raphael and Michelangelo murals] told Michelangelo I can do an entire mural in the time you can do 2 or three figures...Michelangelo replied " so one can see". That one always cracks me up.

Staz i just read your thread and viola saw the woman... didn't even catch that. Is it liberty or freedom tragically escaping from the battlescene... i know don't explain... enjoy. LOL
    Cheers mate.

common guys, dont be dumb, there was obviously another vehicle in front of it that already went this route.

I'm with Staz. I think the idea of the figure in the clouds is neat, but I don't feel like it adds to the piece. You're already on my other big pick-up, which is the soldier. Usually the butt of the rifle is under the trigger arm, which contributes to the awkwardness.

Possibly having the vehicle slightly farther out of lines with the tracks in front of it will give more of that feeling that they are from another vehicle before it? Just a thought. Killer stuff on the whole.

    really great colors and lighting.
i got a problem with the soldier in the forground -
he`s face is awkward, and the way he`s holding the gun is very weird.
other than that - solid piece. i like it alot.

about the soldier in front: shouldn't he be taller? I mean, considering the other figures right in perspective, his head should be a little over those of the others...

the rest, well that's just stunning

hey man, awesome overall. I'm not sure if this crit is important when doing something conceptual rather than a painting in a traditional sense but you might want to do some more changes on all areas you copy pasted, like the vehicle wheels and front lamps. I can totally see the point why doing this but it was also quite obvious. also, the dark grey area above the caterpillar(?) looks a bit less detailed/ cleaner than everything else.

btw did you do a 3d mockup on this one?
    thanks for sharing, totally great.
