Ok, firstly, a little story about this guy.

The original design came from Arild Anfinnsen http://www.arildwiro.com/

A client loved the character and wanted to use him in a commercial, but he went through quite a few changes before his on screen debut. I was the guy who altered the design, remodeled, and made him more functional so we could animate him more easily... the final look (inline with client requests) lost a lot of the charm that Arilds orignal Droid had, mostly the warm round eyes.

Anyway, I liked the subject matter and wanted to do something else with him... so here's a painting.

I havent really done environments before, this is the first time I've done something with more than just a few brush strokes, it actually has a sky!, so feedback would be great.

I like the unbalanced look of the mecha but your BG lacks depth

Thanks, yeah I agree... think i might to a layout in Maya.. use what I'm comfortable with as training wheels

Love this piece. I think the only thing right now that needs commenting on is the environment...(duh!).

The robot looks a little too heavy (whaaat?) in the very light and fluffy background. Just need to punch up the deepness of the ground he's standing on. I've posted a comparision pic showing what I mean.

Also, while his leaning pose is great, so is the landscape, making it look as though he's pushing the universe down into his right foot.

Very nice, keep going!

Cool, I'm going to lay out some shapes in Maya, and get some foreground - to background landmarks in there to give me some depth and lighting cues... I'll post the layout up before I go ahead and paint anything.
