Entry for the Creature of the Week #63

    ------------------

    Lurnuk
    Turpis Vegrandis Noctis

The Lurnuk is an intriguing creature. It is not really a hunter yet it stalks its prey, going largely unnoticed. They sneak up on their victim and when they catch their glance they use their large eyes to slowly hypnotize the prey. Once the prey are under the spell the Lurnuk use their tail to spit out an anesthesic gass to knock out the hapless victim. Depending on their moood, they might also use their spiked tail to knock out prey. They proceed to eat their catch, usually when it's still alive.

i'm really digging this work.. it's so colorful and playful. plus it has very nice style/presentation, especially those thumbnails for scale, etc.

the eyeballs on the last on are sweet, my only critique is that the tail is a little too horizontal, as if it is lying on a flat surface and the bottom edge looks almost like a shadow on a surface.

do you work fulltime as a character artist? for games?

    keep the good work coming!

    Oma: Thanks!
Micheal Motion: Thanks a lot. Never realized you were from the netherlands as well.
Notspecialist: Thanks man. Youre right about the tail, its a bit underdeveloped. I work at Little Chicken, we make small games. I do concepting, modelling and a little bit of animation. It's a relatively small company, so I get to do a lot of different things.

    Cow #64

    Tingifissi
    Piscis Piscis Puteo Celer

The Tingifissi is a creature that is very rarely seen. Very little is known about this beautiful yet mysterious sea animal. It is believed that it is one of the fastest creatures in the sea, though there are no definitive records to prove it. Marine biologists suspect that the Tingifissi uses an almost jet like propulsion system to achieve these high speeds. They also believe the creature uses it's huge dorsal fin mostly for stabilizing purposes. The Tingifissi's habitat is near the carribean, and it is believed the creature has a preference for clear water. On very rare occasions the Tingifissi are spotted skidding across the water, chasing eachother at breakneck speeds. From a distance they are often confused with jetski's. The world is waiting until one of this magnificient beasts can be more thoroughly studied.

Made this one for Character of the week #45: World War One - Secret Special Unit - The Wizard!

    Thumbs

    And the final

From the journal of Private Alex J. Murphy
    Saturday, 1st of July 1916
"From afar all we could see was a green glow. It wasnt clear what was causing the kills on our squadron. I looked like a green ball, but shooting it yielded no results. Thunder shot from this green ball and our men exploded when hit. It was like fighting a god. All we know is we lost that battle within a few seconds. As the battle came to an end I saw this mighty silhoutte standing in a ball of fire. I don't remember what happened after that. I guess I must have lost consciousness. I know not how I survived but I woke up the morning after the battle to find our whole platoon dead. Where the man stood who had defeated us only a hill off glass remained."

Here is my latest for the Halloween COW:

    The Halloweendragon
    Serpentus Dulcis

The Halloweendragon is benign creature with a weakness for sweets. It is dormant for most of the year. Around Halloween it awakes and forms a symbiotic relation with a child, usually of very young age. Because of their young age, and because of the friendlyness of the Halloween dragon, the children are often not afraid of these dragons. The creatures benefits from this relation by getting a share in the sweets and the child benefits by scaring the adults into giving lots and lots of candy. Once the host child becomes to old for halloween, they seek out a new partner in "crime". Often desperate Halloween dragons without host are found raiding sweet shops.

Here's the latest Chow entry. It's called an Ortho, and is meant as a reference sheet for modellers and/or sculpters. I'm thinking about sculpting him, looks like fun.

And the latest COW, #66: Hellish beast.

    The Gritter
    (No latin name available)

The gritters await all those entering hell. They attack the damned in large numbers and strip their victims of all their burning flesh within seconds. In old folk tales the gritters are often described as the cleaners from hell. They have a lust for flesh that is unquenchable. They truly can get no satisfaction. It is unknown whether the gritters procreate or wether they have been in the same numbers since the beginning of hell. Some say all arthropods descent from the gritters in one way or the other. No proof of this has ever been found, because no live human has ever come face to face with the gritters.

That hellish beast image is cool. looks like the cover of some deathmetal band cd case.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

    Clamper
    Rufescens Ursus Bradypus

The Clamper is a distant relative of the Sloth. When young clampers leave their mothers, they find a young tree and clutch to it. It is widely believed the Clampers never leave the trees they pick out as their "partner". They form a symbiotic relation with the tree, and grow up together with the tree. The trees inhabited by the Clampers are recognizable by the curve in the trunk. This characterizing curve is caused by the weight of the Clamper. Because they are believed to never leave the trees they inhabit, it is not sure how these animals procreate. Biologists studying them in the wild never caught one leaving its tree. This may also be the main reason the Clampers are almost extinct. Biologists are not quite sure why the Clampers choose to live their lives clutched to a tree, they believe that the Clampers form some sort of love relation with the tree they choose. The herbivoric Clampers feed very little because of their low metabolism. They also have very little to no natural enemies. The main reason for this is that their meat tastes very nasty and is extremely stringy. However, they do attract a lot of insects with the growth on their back. Whenever a tree with a weird curve is seen in a forest, it is highly likely that it was once inhabited by a loving clamper.
