Very nice sketchbook, love the mood in your environments.
Great last sketch man... moody and industrial... bit of a confusing light source though... maybe a hole in the clouds?Keep posting it reminds me to do the same lol

Thanks for the feedback guys! I agree with the lighting, probably the sky is confusing because it isn't really matching how the environment is being lit. I'll work on that!
Here's a little something, kinda in-between speedpainting and more finished... working some more on it now. But it's very hard to keep focused, it's so hot these days![]()
Hehe, I know what you mean... try getting a fan, helps cool you down a lot. Pretty hot scene you've got going on here too! Looks all steamy and industrial. You should maximise the smoke & fog and texture the floor to make it look gritty and rough... this could be a VERY good portfolio piece if you take it to the next level bro. Try adding some air conditioning vents on the sides of buildings, some rays perforating the smog. The lighting on that foreground tank (I like to think of it as a tank) doesn't seem to make much sense - the top and top front are lit whereas the light spilling onto the floor around it makes it look like the bottom front should be lit. Same thing with the slanted panel on the right. I'm nitpicking though, these are easily correctable. Have fun painting/manipulating the rest!
Congratulations! The improvement you've built up is astonishingI totally dig your enviros man. I also want to thank you for dropping me those links into my sketchbook.
Looking forward to more of your work!
woo……Great environment!you are too strong! Are you using 3d modeling of the first?
great stuff. looking good![]()
Max - Thanks a ton for the great feedback! This was really helpful and i greatly appreciate itI've already worked some more on it, but i'll make sure to incorporate your thoughts. I especially agree with the steam, smoke and air vents. Also needs some kind of people/crowding with the next update.
Spire - Haha thanks for the motivating words man! You're welcome. Just keep working hard, post often and you'll get better and better very fast.
LAL - Thanks! For last two images, i started with 3D.
monsi - Thanks
Now some 3D! Just in case anyone cares, it's realtime with about 2000 tris and 2048 textures. and a little update on the last image![]()
I like the realtime model mate, nice work
Great updates Robert, the texturing of the hovercraft in the background city matte is quality - to be honest I didn't realise what it was until you detailed it! Maybe for the final image you could add a little motion blur and/or heat shimmer in the air from its engine? Also, what I thought was a tank in the foreground would also make a good hovercraft - and if you made it the same colour as the other one, the repeated colour would lead the eye through the image and create a stronger theme. (I'm thinking futuristic NY taxi?) A couple more flying vehicles in the far distance would go a long way too, experiment with weird silhouettes maybe to create something really strange (maybe hornet-shaped hovercrafts?). A few people walking around will look really great in the final image too. A couple lamp posts could be interesting, maybe some signs (weird alien font would work wonders here), street names on sides of buildings, painted lines on the road, maybe some rubble at the base of one of the buildings? Also the vents on the right could be darker. I really like the texture you've used for the floor!
The realtime 3D scene you've created is also very cool, I don't have time to say anything detailed about it but it's impressive - have you tried using masks and composite materials?
awesome new stuff man! I hope you start posting again soon!![]()
really nice enviro's you have in this sketchbook! Also the portfolio online is looking really nice - I just checked it out a minute ago and there is a lot of interesting stuff on there.

Great works man!
I wanted to ask you something,
how much time do you generally need to make a 3d environment in 3d software , for example like the one in post 373 ?

the KING of uploading..check this out..
Hey, great thread. I love your 3d stuff in your enviros. You also are able to use textures and photos very wisely.
Keep it up man
