Thank you guys! Here's some more color thumbs, a value practice and a 50min speedpaint "house in the lake".
you should know that these pics are heroine for our brains!!
Some more random crap, i try to losen up and paint with bigger brushes and less time... I hope to figure that out sometime?
Nice... my only suggestion would be to continue working through your depth of field and variations in environments as they receed into the background. You have a lot of really good starts here, keep on practicing!
I had to give you 5 stars for this thread! This is the first time I've seen your sketchbook and it's really impressive, also inspiring. Makes me want to run off and try creating some crazy and lush environments.
The colours are so vibrant! You have a great talent, would love to see some of this!!
Take care,
Cx
There are some very good pictures, and some working not as good as others. But I let you guess *what is what* ;D
i agree - i'd have to say the quality is all over the place. some really really good stuff, and some that looks very hesitant and like you forgot how to do it all. great energy in a lot of them though - and at least your producing and posting it all.. so, big up! i'm sure you'd be able to get in a good college.

there is already alot of improvement here. you should be proud. Try to keep your middle tones for a full value scale. it gives more depth to the environment.
really nice!
congratulations!
Troll Skelking - Thank you. I will post more often, was way too lazy the last weeks...
TacticallyWacked - Sure, i'll see what i can do!
vcoleman - Thank youfor the tip , i will keep that in mind
masarunga - Thanks!

The second enviro has really nice textrues. In general I really like all your enviros. Btw thanks for sharing the steps.
And please update more often, it's all really great![]()
From your May 22 post, you are showing much improvement! The top one (very bright blue) is lacking in a strong focal point, where do you want the first place a person looks to be? it shows that you are working on depth of field... exaggerate this even more and your work will improve by leaps and bounds. the middle one is kinda "muddy" everything looks the same, the fires help get an idea of the focal point, like in the first one, try really exaggerating the depth of field (really strong dark shadows and sillouettes), The third one, i love the suggestiveness of it, depth of field is working here, and there is a strong focal point... very nice concept sketch.
And your newest 3 are even more improved! you are turning out a lot of great work, keep it up!
Awsome stuff. I really like seeing the variety of finished states.
I really need to do some of this sort of practice myself, but I'm always so lost on enviromental lighting. Do you start with some inspiration or reference for the color and lighting of each sketch?
N1ck - Thank you for the kind words
Skrunchey - Thank you a lot for the advice, i really appreciate good help like that.![]()
Artguy - Thanks! I often look through my photo/inspiration folder before i start to paint or have a DVD playing in the background. They always have nice places, angles and lighting there. Good to learnOf course i use reference photos, but mostly for personal studies. At the moment i try to learn from some of the really good artists (try to emulate the mood, lighting, colors...). It's just for personal research and i don't post these, but it really helps me to get better.
For TacticallyWacked; a little older but it shows some steps and a new one, lots of changes i should have thought more before i started... and a lot more to come i guess![]()
I like this environment you're playing with. It's really good to see lots of ideas about a single scene and how you're developing the different possible sky lines.
Nice stuff.

Sleepy_Head - Thank you

How the #$@ do you do that ??
incredible
Very nice! It is great to watch the improvements over time... For the very first pic for Aug. 1st the one thing that jumped out at me was the bright light between/behind the buildings... I would suggest playing around with the contrastat the central point where the light spills between the buildings... for example if the light is blindingly bright you would lose all definition in the building and get a flare type of effect or you could go totally opposite and have the buildings be totally dark at the edges (high contrast) with no detail, and then as you come away from the light you'd see more detail... the rest are looking pretty good in process keep pushing your depth of field!! Don't hold back, because you can push it pretty far before you lose the "reality" feel (where it starts to look cartoony), it feels like you are playing it safe and sticking to what you know (which is great), take small steps by pushing small elements at a time, experiment, and your work will explode in laeps and bound! Good Luck and keep up the great practice!!
Hey really nice stuff man! You getting better quick! theres a great improvement over those 2 pages already.. keep it up!
hey man, i like your stuff, i have a question, how did you change, on post 49, the angle perspective change in the last image.
keep it up man. good stuff
hey,
i really like ur pictures and colors, there are sum very nice scetches !
whats ur daily job ??
nice stuff here. do you work from ref?
lets see some more!
A great example of consistent and persistent study of environments(light, setting, perspective) you've got here, something that I really with to do myself. What I would suggest is, to try more already with designs and shapes, thinking of putting some interesting twist in the center of your composition, suggesting a bit of a story. You've already got a strong foundation and your improving fast, and the step from this beautiful environments to amazing illustrations seem really easy and short.(I'm saying this also because is something I aim to my self, being less generic like in my studies, and more specific in design and story)
Anyway keep up the good work!
