I know I said I would do some leg studies... so I did some torso studies instead.![]()
No but seriously, they just started an awesome torso workshop over at CGtalk, I can't resist the temptation.
Here's my first tries, all from ref [HERE].

Very good studies! The last one is awesome, great work with form and shading. And thank you for great link, gonna try to do it for myself![]()
Ulver: Thanks a lot Ulver. As for the link, you're very welcome, it would be awesome if you wanted to join in as well.![]()
Two more from the torso workshop and a random uber sketchy character sketch (with short legs).

The tones are starting to look real nice.
and you just reminded me to get busy with the Peck book. (i like how your style even pops thru on an anatomy study. very cool )
question :: where do you get inspired for the character designs?
thanks :.
Max: Thanks a lot Max, motivation ftw! As for the question about inspiration: I don't have any particular inspiration scource that I use for the characters aside from anything else. When I need inspiration I just browse some sketchbooks here at CA. Although this is just really to get me some motivation, not to come up with any ideas of any kind. When drawing characters, as for clothing as stuff like that, I just draw what pops into my head.
... hope that answered your question, if not, ask again! Thanks for keeping up supporting me.
Two new pieces from the torso workshop, about and hour for the lady and 30 mins for the other. (lolz, I never though I would draw Jesus)

I definitely got to get up on that 50 heads 50 torsos jam now.
Your figures are looking real nice.
I never thought I'd give a crit, but looking at the cross you put behind our buddy Jesus, I'd like to see you put more time into the props and environments. Now that it's seems like you're hooking up the anatomy's all proper, show me some background settings, a composition and whatnot.
I'd love to see what your style does for some architecture.
-and yeah, I get the majority of my inspiration from CAand the masters, too. Thanks for the reply, and the inspiration.
Max: Thanks Max, awesome that you're giving me some crits, I get too little of those. I see thousands of things I really need to practice but I'm having trouble seing what I need the most. I still haven't studied anything AT ALL about legs, feet, hands, composition, light, drapery, color, painting overall (except for those two gals I posted here), any kind of creatures/animals, environments etc. The list is long and my time is far too short. That's why I need you guys. Thank you Max, I'll see if I can post some evironments.
While at it, I've been thinking of getting myself markers for some time (for environmental work in perticular) but I'm not sure where to get them. My only local art store (which is really just a book store) doens't have any and I don't have a credit card. Any swedes out there who knows of any online store I could check out, or international sites that takes PayPal? I'm just looking for a simple cool/warm greyscale, prismacolor or copic I guess.
Tried doing some gestural stuff from the master paintings, crazy hard.![]()

torso 25 is very solid Olle. good work. that looks like it's a really good exercise. it's good to see you rockin' some basic shapes before you really get crackin.' keep that up. sorry, i really stress that- so im glad to see that. anyway, good start to this sb of yours. keep at it
Mag-Neo: Yup, Smith and Lawrence it is. Thanks for stopping by.
Spats: Thank you Spats, I'm far from happy with my line work but I'll keep working on it.
sith: Thanks a lot sith. Stress me as much as you want, I'll just be happy ^^. Many thanks for stopping by.
I decided to try out a pen today just 'cause I haven't really ever used it seriously before. Drew some hands at super speed and a couple of random faces.

Hi Olle! Very nice lines in the last update, really great work! That figures from the master paintings are also look cool and very solid. It would be great to see some pieces from you with more detailed renderingKeep it up!
Ulver: Thanks mate, I'll see if I can get some some more rendered stuff through.
I did THIS (thanks to Max for finding) to get myself more confortable with my tablet. It went ok, it still feels wierd drawing with this thing but I guess it's going in the right direction, I did some quick environment thumbnails.

I like the energy you got going with the pen. I'm looking forward to the rock you bring when you're able to get some prismacolors.
The environment thumbnails are cool. Great sense of depth and nice mini-compositions. Do more!
Max: Thanks mate, gonna do some more soon, hopefully
I did some mini gestures today, was lots of fun.

dope.
are these from a life drawing session? or photo refs?
Hi Max, about 50% are reffed loosly from Kevin Chens figure studies over at characterdesigns.com (love that site), he's quite awesome, probably my favorite figurative artist. Most of the others are from imagination and some (very few) are from random photos.
Sadly, there isn't any life drawing sessions or art schools anywhere close to where I live at the moment so those will have to wait a whole, at least until I finish high school.![]()

All these studies are paying off. Be careful with the Wes Burt-isms http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1156082384 too many people try to swipe his style.
Front view and profile of the skull and head are the most important to learn, all other views are derived from them, most character art is in 1 or 2-point perspective. Looking at your gestures I'll say that every bump on the contour corresponds to some form on the figure, those forms can only be round or blocky, let those forms inform you line choice. Also be careful of copying KChen mannerisms, learn why he has made those choices, the one that catches my attention the most is the tapering of women's arms and legs to needle like cones.
Sketchbook
"Beliefs are rules for action"
"Knowledge is proven in action."
"It's use is it's meaning."
That's a cool site. Thanks for sharing that.
oh, and I did a far inferior Michaelangelo for the torso study.
I cannot compete with your great rendering style.
armando: Thanks a lot armando, lots of great crits. About the KChen stuff, I can asure you I'm not trying to copy any style/mannerisms. I use his drawings more like I would use photorefs, to check for proportions and gesture of the figure. I'm not a big fan of photorefs. Awesome crit on the arms/legs tapering, I've never thought about that. Now when say it, I must have gotten that from Chen without realizing. I'll try to work that habbit away. Thanks alot for stopping by.
max: Thanks max. I'll go check that Michaelangelo out right away
Some random recent stuff. Jack Hamm, Loomis, random figures, leg studies and a doodle. Make up yourself what's what.![]()

Wow. Your line work on the Jack Hamm stuff is sick.
Since it appears that you do requests![]()
here's 2 :
. Take one of those really cool costumed character designs (like the doodle you just posted) and give it the same treatment you did for the color figure study.
. Go with one of those enviromental thumbnails ( I vote for the mountain joint on the top right) and do a splash with details developed. Maybe even in color.
And make 'em big so I can have an Olle Werme desktop background![]()
Thanks Max. The purpose of those Jack Hamm drawings was to draw everything with just one line, never draw over a previous line and of course never use an eraser (that's also my excuse for some of them looking like shit).
Alright, I may give those requests a try, maybe, we'll see.
I got this huge test wednesday which I really need to study to and now you're motivationg me like crazy. Gah...
*runs off to draw, I'll blame max if I get a low grade. I'm sure my teacher will understand*

good book! LOVE the gestures!
Hi Olle,
cool sketches and studies here. I really should do more studies myself. I like the digitals, real nice colouring there. Also the mini gestures look good. I'd really like to see some finished works here.
Some good study. Keep at it.
