The CRIMSON DAGGERS
Hey man! This one looks really great!
I do not know the original and I intentionally did not look it up. I know when I draw people the just do not look like the original, but I bet yours is pretty close and even not: Just seeing yours I can tell it looks awesome![]()
Rather than make excuses about why I wasn't posting in here for a month, I'll just plop down what I did, or rather, the tiny amount of work I managed to force myself to do relative to the massive amount of time I had to do it. Some is ok, some is terrible. Some is completed, some is not, some will never be.
Jumping in here and seeing such a huge update is quite daunting. So much stuff, but I particularly like the figure of the cloaked woman approaching the fallen man. I really like the way she almost looks ethereal and yet solid? Digging deeper, those pencils in post 630 are awesome. The transformation involving the shedding/ripping of the skin instead of the growth of fur through the skin is something I have never seen before. It looks far more painful, haha.
Anyway, speaking about the whole hirsute thing, I saved a load of images from the 'What the fuck does everyone look like?' lounge thread earlier today for pencil practice, and noticed your Wolverine stances along with Hookswords awesome mutton chops. I'm a hairy bloke myself, but as I have blonde hair I'm doomed to never have the luxury of exploring wicked facial styles. It was just a coincidence that I stumbled on your sketchbook after I had dropped your photo pose into my ref' folder, but now I've seen those transformation panels - along with the unique qualities I mentioned earlier - I was wondering if your hirsutedness (?) played a subconscious part in that sequence? I don't mean to pry but once I made the connection I found those panels far more interesting.
Anyway, I'm loving your output so will subscribe and dig further back as soon as I have time. I'll post my sketches from your ref' photos in the 'draw from' thread sometime soon. I hope you are a practitioner of the tongue-in-cheek maneuver.![]()
this sketchbook has come leaps and bounds - the effort you've put in shows
keep it up!
I just pass through your sb and i amazed, you progressed a lot, and you sure will keep goin like that, never stop cos it rocks!
that s really motivating.
Lookit you, bustin' out the improvements all over the placeI heart your SB's face off, no lie.
As for crits, you still need a little work on teh wimminz, imho. I noticed something about this chick as well as the sea elf -- the upper torso winds up looking kinda small.. it's great that they don't have big man-shoulders and wide man-chests, but I don't think most chicks are that skinny up top.
Also, keep watching the hands & feet/wrists & ankles; kinda-slender wrists and ankles help a figure appear more feminine.
I took the liberty of showing you what I mean via paintover; perhaps not the most subtle of crit methods, but you know I got nuthin' but love for you, Rhine.![]()
Look, see! Nifty art!http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99803
Hey! Check out my blog here
Thanks AmontilladoAgbut with the wrists and ankles, well, I wanted her to be a pretty buff female warrior, and the skinny wrists make it look like she can't hold her anchor
The width of the shoulders does look small though, and her hips as well... think I'll end up doing some 'largening' of those areas, and maybe see if I can get her limbs to taper a little more softly

Nice going Jason. You have improved so insanely much since the last time I saw your sketchbook :o
Keep on rocking![]()

I really have nothing to crit, but I must say your improvement here astounding, you went from well drawn lifeless poses, to freakin life thrusting pieces.
Ey man, some crits on the warrior lady: Her left bicep appears as if it is relaxed, yet the forearm appears to be flexed. This gives the whole arm a really weird appearance. Methinks you need to ball up that left bicep some in order to show that it, too, is flexing. Also, that is one freaking long/skinny left knee.
The whole concept itself is great, the work you put into it really shows. Great studies too. Keep on keeping on!
Very cool! I love all of the design ideas.![]()

Beat your ass with critiques?
How about spank your ass with moon rocks instead?
Of your latest batch, this one looks excellent... http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1250182946
The lighting is really cool
I did see a bit of an issue with the shape of the head on the Amazonian woman (that's what she is, right?) but I think the paintover AmontilladoAg did addresses the issue.
Otherwise, I don't know what to say. Your stuff is really very good quality overall.

Shit me Jason, you are a testement to CA. i come back to your sketchbook every 6 months or so, and you've improved years.
i'll be back with crits at some point.
I really wish I would have got more done than this, but today I spent a good 5 hours just drawing (some I can't show just yet) and hopefully I'll keep the pace up.
REQUEST: I just need ideas of what to study. Sometimes I just sit around wondering what to actually draw. I've covered most of the useful stuff in my ref folder, if anyone has any ideas of what I could or should be drawing please let me know.

Some little poop studies. What I'm trying to do is reverse my normal routine: I usually sketch figures and render landscapes digitally. So now I'm sketching some landscapes with pencil and sketching some figures in PS.

And maybe a new personal WIP? I really want to try to render goku the way I did vegeta. My current stab at it doesn't really seem right, so I might try this;

I'm really reminded of frank frazetta when I see your stuff. Maybe check some of that out.
I love the second team chow on #707 the one holding the head
Whaddup gangsta from the wild canada ! Nice to see you posting again ! Well from what i see, you should more study faces ( planes looks quite good, but features are sometimes weird ) And why not doing some selfportraits, i don't remember seeing selfportraits in your sb ! Keep it up !
Not to be a sunny parade bum fuck, but i would like to see you do more studies on poses before doing finished works. The poses employed in these latter ones were kind of boring, but the idea, at least was worked through

I have the same problem with just sitting wondering what to draw. I'd recommend checking out Illustration Friday blog. Usually has some pretty cool topics to get you drawing. Either that or some of the activities here. Or pick a pose in your ref folder, then make an illustration out of it. I personally find that I learn the most by doing illustrations or personal pieces as oppose to just studies.
Dragonball Z is awesome. Thought it needed to be said.
That quick sketch is looking good man, nice and dynamic, but then again I thought the last one was good so what do I know ha. But it's all coming along nicely dude, that evil team chow character you did is my favourite, I love the pose. Also kudos to mixing up your process.
Hope I was some help
Peace
Dan
You, my friend, have improved a TON since your first pages. Congratulations.
Very high quality stuff here.
I liked the Goku WIP and the posemaniacs gestures where you darken the contour of the greatest tensions.

Awesome work Jason, you have a shit ton of good stuff.
The last paintings look really great! And show a lot of improvement in my eyes. As for new things to studies, how about more animals? Besides horses.. big cats, or birds perhaps? Ones that have significant roles in fantasy art =D
Speaking of which, I got some photos of a horse skeleton that was mounted in a stables I visited a couple of weeks ago, along with some horsey shots. Still have to look at them to see which turned out well enough to use, but if you think you may need any for reference, give me a yell. Thinking of uploading a bunch of photos to Freewebs or Photobucket to pass on to people who need them for reference photos anyway. =D
Insanity is the key!
Also, studies are a key. And passion is a key. Also, so are inspiration, motivation and dedication. Talent can be a key. Insomnia can also be a key, depression is a sad rusty little key. Damn, artists need one hell of a keyring.

great work, man. your dark version for the chow II is pretty awesome. it's good that you push yourself to do so many thumbs and tests when working on a piece. that kinda shit helps a TON.

Some seriously good stuff in here, keep up the great work, loving all the work.
Cheers

hey there! you could make a good progress if you would use longer lines, your line is short and broken but that's a easy change to make. Make a few line drawings, try to draw with fewer lines. good luck!
huge skillz!
Wow, what a progress compared with the first entries.
Great work
