That last pic rocks dude. Watch his right eye, it seems like its flat, no cheekbones or brow, so bring out his cheek bone perhaps (a little patch o' light on it) and maybe raise the left upper side of his right eyebrow. More!![]()

Hey Rhineville! It'd be totally wrong of me to start critiquing your sketchbook, since your technical skills are far above mine, so I'll just say it all looks very good!
One thing though. On this piece, I'd personally add highlights to the water, depending where the sun is. Water reflecting sunlight is one of the few things that are actually white, so it might not hurt to add some.
man i think i remember coming of you sketchbook along time ago, and boy have youy improved. you digital painting has improved tenfold.
oh yeah and thnx for the major crit on my work, your always so detailed and concise. i really appreciate it.

Hey Jason, impressive sb! You've really been doing some excellent progress, haven't you?I went through your first pages and damn, your pencils especially have level-upped like crazy! Same goes for the digis, there's a lot of depth in them now. I see you're a fan of Norse mythology, huh? Awesome work there, big fan of it myself, you've got some great illustrations. Keep it on, man!

Woah, looking good! I like this one a lot. And don't give me that crap about how I'm better than you...=( There's me, who can scribble stuff that doesn't even matter and then there's you who dishes out finished pieces and studies harder and longer.
Keep it up dude.

Wow I'm new to this sketchbook so I just browsed the first and last pages. The difference is night and day. Someone recently complained about my lines/hatching and gave me a link to another artist - he should've linked me to yours. That one nude with the long hair on page 16 is absolutely gorgeous. Has a Loomis feel to her.
I'm going to look more indepth when I have time. I really need to do some sketching.
ur progerress is amazing how long have u been in CA i just started here
Your sb is amazing! I love your figure studies.
hey dude, i love your work.. both - digitals and pencils are great. You attention to detail is amazing.. and the anatomy is beautiful.
Hey Jason,
Just got done going through your sb and you are seriously improving. Nice going with those pencils and the hatching looks great.
drd Thanks man, but your sketches are more beautiful than any finished piece I've made yet. Your robust basics trump my shiny tricks.
TASmith Thanks, really appreciate it
Tallnskrony Thanks, like it says up by my name I've been here for about 2 and a half years, but only really started studying for about 2.
Danuh Thank you
a_a Thanks!
Trashy Thank you too

My divine prophecy piece turned out ok, but it really proves that my finishing touches are clumsy. I really feel like everything I finish do is too 'specific.' I'd rather have a powerful abstraction than weak details.
Also did some studies but as always patience is my enemy, I wasn't able to really keep going. My kung fu is weak.![]()
Great job on the Divine Prophecy! The face looks familiar... you didn't by any chance use a person we know as model, did you?
On your sketches, one small thing: the head of the deer you've drawn is much too small. Apart from that it all looks hunkey-dorey ^_^
doh, double post![]()
Who?!I'm really curious now about who that looks like. By 'we' I assume you mean you and I. The only female we both know would be Aila I think..... I thought it looked like Starbuck when I was doing it.
I pulled the face out of my ass btw
EDIT: I was actually considering asking my sister to lend her face as reference, but then when I figured out the figure would be exposed I felt it would be enormously inappropriate
EDIT: Here's the closeup;

Hey, you have some very cool stuff on here. That last self portrait looked very good. The progress you've made from the first few pages to the last few is awesome. Keep it up.

Hey great chimp sketch. Ya know, hardly anyone sketches animals anymore. It's refreshing to see it.
nice progress , dude
damn your pencils sure are impressive.. really nice variety dude! looking forward for more!
Hey Rhineville! Long time no talk to, I see your art is as amazing as always
I'm really diggin' the the Divine Prophecy. Still your number one fan and you're the inspiration that's keeping me from getting frustrated with my own art.
Have to say that your pencils have greatly improved since you start this thread. Now they are rocking hard. The improvement is awe inspiring as well as your anatomy too. Like a lot the Ogre Wear design.
Can't really add anything now, but I will be back later for providing better feedback. Keep it up!

I'll get the important bit over with so people are sure to see it;
I need some help.
This is one of the rare times that I can't quite detach myself from my art. I'm longing to do some studies but I feel no focussed direction to go. Everything I do isn't terrible, but I still feel like there's a film of "blah" wrapped over my work and I can't quite figure out how to remove it.
I need a direction and a kick in the assWhat should I study, and how? What are my weaknesses? Should I be doing pencil sketches of faces or fully rendered enviro studies? I've been looking for a mentor but pickings are pretty slim. Most of the projects that mentors are giving out are 'ideation' stuff like "make this character" "develop this idea" I don't feel like I have a huge problem with that and I'd much rather join something like Idiotapathy's mentor thread which is mainly study-based.
Anyways thanks for looking and for any future suggestions given. Challenge me, insult me, get my piss all in a tussle. Anything to get my ass going.

Untouched24 Thank you
El Stormo This is getting naughty
RoboBobo Yeah, I should defenitely do more of it, but I don't really like creating creatures anyways...
Shiznit Thanks... Jim?
shardana Thank you
Reckage90 Haha man haven't seen you in a while. Did you join up in tennisbollen's forum?
Maestro Andres Thank you
I would have more to show but my scanner is being pissy again. Here's my lastest 'completed' thing;
Awesome atmosphere in that last digital. one thing that bothers me( besides the torso being feminine) is that I would not make the light outline around him so consistent, maybe fade it out or make thinner but reduce the weight of the line for sure...
but keep the art come'n and stop by sometime
-jedininja
Thanks Jedi
I finally got the scanner working, here's the rest of the 'update' (and for the landscape sketch, I stick majorly suck at abstraction)
so much goodness, me likes. ;-)
Doing some studies of faces might help a little. Your artwork has improved at a meteoritic pace since I saw this sketchbook last, but the faces do tend to look a bit off.
I like your stuff, it is strangely inspirational - makes we want to go draw.
Don't sweat finding errors in your drawings from reference so much. Try to find them as early as you can in the process. Look forward to it.
By that I mean the earlier you can find them the easier they are to fix...
it seems like the drawings that we feel worst about are the ones where we don't notice a mistake until the whole drawing is close to finished.
I think a lot of your drawings from ref look pretty good. Maybe an extra pass early on to correct proportions and line things up would help.
I'm gonna draw now.

ninjacat11 Thank you, I'll try to do some facial stuffs
Nallen Strangely inspirational eh.... maybe it's because it's so terrible everyone's natural reaction is "Holy fudgscicles! I gotta work hard so I don't end up like this chump!"thanks
