complete newbie....

Hello there

I am in the process of going head first into using photoshop for creature design and photo manipulation for make-up fx design purposes.

My question to you is--

What would be the best way to learn some tricks and techniques? Are there any GOOD tutorials out there that demo how to ,say, transform someone in a photo into an ogre or witch? How to do good wrinkles and detail using ps?

What are your guys and girls view?

I see, well I guess I would say first to follow the tutorials and it is important to know the basics of photoshop too (so you won't get lost)

Such as www.good-tutorials.com, just google it typing with "photoshop tutorial" or replace L with S (tutorials)

Here in Germany there are some very good Learning DVDs out, they are specialized for different kinds of usage, from digitally photographs to dtp.

Learning from DVD is maybe the best and fastest way, cause you can follow each step, can pause the movie an redo it in your Photoshop.
Also the sample files are all included.

I guess there is something else on the market where you live!

well if you have time and extra money my wife and i both teach private photoshop classes to about 30 percent of the product and wedding photographers in orange county
otherwise check out gnomon.com for their dvd tutorials
pricey but good

The best way of learning is through dvd tutorials. You can run the dvd as many times as you wish. There are many online tutorials on different topics in photoshop. Through intensive practice you can achieve the required skills.

You might want to try downloading the footage from Bearshare or Limewire??

There are a ton of tutorials on the web, both written and video. If you are just now getting into PS for the first time I would suggest Googling different techinques. DvDs can be great but I have found If you put in a little time searching for specific topics like Masking, Color correction, etc... you can find alot of really great materials that you can work along side and watch as many times as you wish.

Thanks Maxedmax for reference urls, Those are really useful links. I never went to any institute to learn Photoshop. Tutorials are great help to know photoshop well.Through internet every day we can learn a new tip and topic. Learning at our own interest is the best way of knowing the things.

Tube, best of luck on finding what works for you. Everybody will learn a bit differently.

I have a good working knowledge for photoshop and have used it pretty much everyday for the last 8 years.

In saying that, I've learned most techniques and tricks through magazines. Advanced Photoshop is an excellent resource plus you get a disc of goods each issue to keep it intresting. However if your really not familiar with Photoshop to start with... some of the tutorials may confuse the crap out of you.
