    Talking M.Do.Col's Early-Late Sketchbook

    Alright CA,

First off, hello, I have recently joined, as you are probably aware. My work usually starts off as simply random "I'm bored and not really paying any attention to you, but will pretend otherwise every now-and-then" doodling. However, once started on a piece, I'll usually see it through.

Please critique, I'll more then likely listen.

    Informations:
    __________________________________________________ _____________

    For the palmtree painting:

Can't exactly recall what style it is, however, I made it on a 1'3" by 1' (about) homemade canvas using about 12 colors mixed with acrylic paints. This was a relatively quick painting, seeing as I did it in only about 4 or 5 contiguous hours. I sketched, on the canvas, the background before painting. Then painted over the entire thing with the somewhat gradient sunset. I then painted the foreground, waited for it to dry, and erased as much of the pencil sketch as I could.

The line in the middle is a result of trying to scan painting on a document sized scanner.

    ________

    For the cube experiment:

Not much to explain. I was just bored and felt like playing around with some perspective and reflection to kill some time.

    ________

For the brick and vine sketch:

Attempted to grab a depressed feeling. Dunno quite how it works out, but it didn't quite come out to be as I originally had hoped for.

    ________

For the pastel piece (girl in red dress):

I actually did spend some time on this. I based it off of a magazine cover I was looking before getting my hair cut. Not too much to say here. I outlined her figure in bold to give it a more traditional cartoonish way. It reminds me of some Mexican art I've seen.

An obvious fuck up of mine is the shading. I was really starting out with pastels, so instead of making the shading along the contours of her head, I simply darkened half of it. It may contribute to the style, but I am in no way proud of it. I may finish it in the future, but for now, I'll leave it as it is.

    ________

    For the clown:

I originally meant for it to be an evil clown. Decided on the sad clown, which is sadistically always good for a laugh. I'm not too proud of the perspective in this, or the half-assed shading under his collar, but the collar itself is what I thought made this a good one.

    ________

    For the dripping thing:

Another time killer. This time I was playing around with shading, mostly. That and drawing a somewhat free-flowing viscous liquid.

    ________

    For the cartoon city:

I decided to draw this after seeing a sign for national ozone day. Not much too it, other than a fun little doodle.

    ________

For the Street with the powerlines:

I wanted to draw this based off of a picture I had seen about Kristallnacht during the second world war. Some of the perspective is off, but then again, I'm not very good with it. Added the random graffiti with my initials because of how plain that wall looked.

    ________

    For the robot picture:

I had great fun with this picture. As far as I'm concerned, I need more detail on some of the robotic parts, and some straighter lines. Some people tell me that looking at this made them wince at the thought of the eye scalpel.

    ________

    For the train:

I'm probably most proud of this picture. I based it off of the New York Express Steam Locomotive. I have a model of it from MTH that I set up every Christmas.

    ________

For the picture with the liquor store:

This one is a work in progress. I don't much care for the mech, or the helicopter, but the buildings are my favorite parts.

    Thanks for looking!

Made a new one, a front and profile view of a guy's head with a gasmask.

I had drawn the profile first, and one problem I see with it is that his head is too narrow.

A friend of mine gave me a picture and asked me to draw her, this is just a little 15 minute experiment where I played around with a few things I thought odd about her posture in the picture. Did use the stamp tool in the top right and bottom left corners to remove a few personal notes I showed her.
