Problem! please help

Alright I have a problem here. I'm using D50 with a 18-55mm lens and while i'm shooting i'm using a tripod however, some of my photos came out blur I'm shooting in jpeg fine format. Can anybody tell me why? its really frustrating becos I've tried a lot of things. Furthermore, if I were to shoot in raw format can i convert it to Jpeg? Thanks I appreciate anyone who can help.

Also the lighting conditions may not be optimal. Your settings may be off.
You have to balance shutter speed, with the ISO and Aperture value.

All of these can affect how clear an image will be.

Also, yes you can convert Raw to Jpeg. I have never done it myself but i would recommend staying with Jpeg until you learn how to process a Raw photo (you have to process it after taking it and then save as a Jpeg)

Tried both auto and manual-focus by the looks of it.
(Or it may have been balancing the shutter speed thingy, but I don't think so.)

set the dial on your camera (the one with all the modes) to either completely automatic, or automatic with no flash

and you should get a clear picture if its on autofocus and you're not moving the camera.

if you dont then perhaps theres something defective? some film on the lens? uhh i dont know

i use a d50 and i find the images pin sharp, there for some reason, unless i dont understand what im doing, (highly possable) 2 places on the camera, there is a a/m on the 18/55 lence, make sure thats set to a, and as you look at the camera head on bottom right of the lence barrel, there is a swich again it will say AF or M, set it to A. go out side in soom good light, set the camera to the landscape setting and take a couple of pictures. make sure you half press the trigger so it can focus first though. If you are still getting blured images its highly likly to be a faulght camera or lense. sounds stupid but also make sure your lense is cleane?

Ah! yes! thanks all for helping i've just realize that the AF, M switch was set at M. Since I've tried taking some random pics I hope you guys out there could give me some comments! Thanks you so much!

better, the only crititsm i have is the last one, it looks like the camera focused on the wrong plant i do that all the time with mine!

If you're jumping right into photography with an SLR, then learn to use it a bit first. Read the camera's manual front to back, and pay special attention to the sections on

shutter speed
aperture / f-stops
depth of field
ISO speed

Those are the most important technical details about your camera, and could be affecting the apparent sharpness of your photos.

with a higer f-stop (smaler opening in the aperture)
