Nice to see you playing with values. Just keep an eye on the anatomy still. The foreshortening on his right arm doesn't look quite there yet.

Calm down and take your time on a little more. Focus on the basics. Your work would improve a lot with a basic knowledge of 3-dimensional space and proportion. It's fun to play with photoshop but it won't pay off as much as studying basics. Sorry for the lecture, but thats what SSGs are for. Keep sketching.

I think you need more individual anatomy studies. Like focus soley on arms for awhile and then move on to hands, legs, etc. I'm seeing in your studies that your arms look a little "stiff".

I like that last post a lot better. I wasn't saying "dont have fun", i was trying to say use what you're studying to improve your "fun" work. Don't forget to block in your shapes, it helps a bunch. Heres an example to show how that skeleton you are starting to draw can help in your digi work. I hope you don't mind.

I dig the use of the rake brush in this one. Try to use it bigger, constructing your shapes with bolder strokes, use its feature to define volume.
Nice improvements so far, keep it up!!!

Sweet progress. I really like those skull/arm/leg studies. I like the one with lots of bodies intertwined. One thing i notice about it though is that all of the hips are too low. Feel your hips - they almost touch your ribcage. Keep up the hard work!

    ok james, hows it goin'?
My absolute best advice for improving is to get your drawing skill/rendering skill up to a decent level, and the best way to do that, is to do studies and ref stuff. Believe me, in order to achieve anything good, you need to have an understanding of the basic principles, line length, tonal indifference, and appropriate angles.
    if you need motivation

from a noob to a pro, check out every couple of pages and prepare to be amazed.
Oh and start drawing as soon as you read this

Damn dude, you're definitely taking the fast track to getting better. Keep it up and all that. If you've improved this much in a month and a half, it'll be sweet to see where you are in six.

Nice updating. I really like that apple, and your anatomy is looking much better. Keep doing some really fast and taking longer on others, you're visibly improving!

I really liked the apple paint study! I think you need to use some more heavier values for the shadow side of it, currently it feels very "airy". Keep em coming!
