hey james!really enjoy your consistancy and the variety of subjects in here - and that you constantly switch between traditional and digital. you're definetely on the right track - hogarth and brigdman studies are looking great and i really liked the face plane studies. some things look like you rush them a little, but you'll find your own tempo, i'm sure. great work! cheers,
    stine

Watch the proportions on the head vs the hands in that one. On the digi there's either no foreground or no background - it looks 2d. I can't tell if thats a building or a bridge or what because there's no scale. Keep it up.

Anatomy is looking good. I actually like the enviro as well. Faces are getting better. I'm still going to harass you with "draw from life!" So there you go. Otherwise keep doing what you're doing, no crits that you don't already know.

Yo, james, please get a scanner The camera is killing those drawing.
I like the enviro from post 185.
I'd like to see some digital value studies from you. Get a pic you like (figure, portrait, whatever), convert it to greyscale and do a study of it trying to get the values right. It's a really good practice.
To get rid of the clickable thumbs, simply attach the images using the manager, but don't use the tags after that, just leave them uploaded. That way, they'll appear at the bottom of the post with the attachment frame, not ideal but better than the thumbs.
    Keep it up!

Last enviro is looking good. It doesn't look to me like you're using your knowledge of anatomy when you doodle robots/knights/whatever. Draw the gesture, block it in, fill in your knowledge of anatomy, and THEN cover it with funky armor. That's the way you bring in realism.

    ...

    Draw from life

    Keep it up.

The blue thing in #186 and the newest pencil are looking pretty good. You're pushing paint around fairly well too. Keep up the work, it's looking nice.

Yay, we demand a better quality scan of that last pencil. It looks cool!
Value practice is great too. Listen to what fish said about using what you learn from referenced drawing in those drawn from imagination. That advice is golden.
    Cheers!

Forth a better scan of the last pencil!!!

With that enviro of a small village, try placing the those houses more towards the mid ground, for me they tend to kill the scale of those mountain shapes (before I reach the houses with my eye, the cliffs feel pretty tall, then the houses kinda whack the scale out for me and I get a confused reading of how big the things are). Well that's just my take on it .

    Keep up the paint stuff!

Awesome. I love the gnome! With the apple it seems that there should be more gradation between the green and red. I would also make the highight smaller and not textured, since its a smooth surface. A shadow would help too to ground it.

Keep it up, you're doing good.

YAY you got a scanner! Congrats! Your scans look fine. Great. Your brother at the pc... should have a pc in it, otherwise he just looks weird. That apple is immensely better. Only crit for it is that the shadow doesn't seem to match perfectly, and its not dark enough. Keep it up, i can't wait to see your new scanned stuff!

Scanner time! Those apples look good, very noticeable improvement on the second one. Have you seen this thread? Cause it's totally cool... Keep developing that gnome thing, perhaps you could make up some kind of story and desing some other characters or enviroments related to him, I don't know, just thinking out loud...
    Keep it up man!

For some reason, it looks like you're rushing through everything. The lines look sloppy and hold no substance for the picture you're trying to create. Slow down and make no more than 3 lines when you sketch. That should build up your confidence and accuracy when you sketch so you're not spending 45 minutes on something that should take 3-5 minutes.

    Keep at it

Hey james, anatomy keeps getting better. Is the guy with no legs standing on his hands or floating or are those tendrils supporting him? Character needs more development or a background or something so i don't have to guess. With the building, those lines should all be parallel... it basically looks like you didn't try. Perhaps try some straight line excercises, just loosening your arm for more accurate strokes? When trying for a straight line (or any line really) you should be using your whole arm to draw, not your wrist.

Heh, that was kind of a rant... keep up the dailies.
