    A new poster

Hello guys, new poster long time forum lurker. I never had the guts to post work but I really need the C&C, I am tired of operating in a vacuum!

I'm struggling with the drape rendering, as it appears out of place from the rest of the figure. It's a bit...looser that the tightness of the figure, and they don't really mesh. Any ideas? This is PS if that helps.

Thanks very much in advance for responses and advice.

    Ken

ooo I love the pose.. is he just slant walking or leaning on something? I'm not sure what the rest of the image is about so I have no idea if your shirt is off.

Hi Killerpenguin, yes he's meant to be leaning up on something (haven't blocked it in yet, sorry), maybe a bar or a post of some sort. I could have included the sketch overlay but it doesn't show him leaning against anything either. The elbows will be the resting point though, so the vest won't be sticking to a wall or being pulled up from his leaning.

Some further progress. I'm going to take a break and look at with fresh eyes, so I can pick out the flaws quicker after staring at it for so long.

*edit* I would have posted the same reso size, but the file exceeds the limit. Sorry!

Looks like you're going pretty good on this image. I would turn the sword so you can see the flat of the blade, and I would place the fingers on his right hand in a more interesting position. Those are minor things, but they will add more interest to the image.

Cast shadows on the shirt by the left arm and the sword?

    Looking good Shaolin7.

You don't happen to have a thick black hardbound sketchbook crammed with drawings of pretty ladies, dashing heros, and involuntary-bowel-movement inducing beasts would you?

You should start a sketchbook thread in the sketchbook forum here! Don't hold back...let's see those barenaked ladies!

    Hiya guys,

Jfwalls: I'll try and turn the blade a bit more, see if I can work something out there. The fingers are a bit of a pain, I'm not happy with them either so that's another thing to work on. Thank you.

JAG: Hmm, alright is the positioning of the thumb perhaps? Is the darkness of the tattoo affecting the foreshortened view?

Mr. FlipMcgee: Hi amigo! Haha why yes, I do have a book just like that. Unfortunately it's crammed with incomplete and aborted ideas, and the level of skill and finish is up for debate. What I want to see with the mind's eye and what I get are worlds apart! I promise I'll try and start a sketchbook thread, thank you for encouraging me to post my friend!

the only thing that doesn't agree with me is the skin tone... it seems a bit too washed out... Sort of sickly. (Perhaps that's the very boney hands though) Either way the overall image itself is excellent, love the characture here, the background, the outfit, and the attitude this character is putting forth. keep up the great work!
