Great muscle studies, I'm liking those. Second james idea on shaky lines (but I think your line art is a fair bit more solid now anyway).
james and rayk - thanks, i think the shaky lines may have been because i did them in the car, yeah i got lazy and scribbled some, let me know how this batch is
arms are mean
Life drawings are looking good. Bidgmans are great too, that's a great book, it really helps you to understand the volume construction and interlockings in the body. You could also try Vilppu's drawing manual, it's like an updated approach to Bridgman, and I had nothing but good comments on that book.
What about some life/photo studies in color/digital?
Keep it up man!
fish, those bones are gorgeous man ] Awesome new stuff!
Yeah fish those are definitely better, I tend not to draw in bus or cars cos of the shakyness.
fedezz - Thanks, i'll check it out. color life studies... i've tried some of that lately with bad results, guess i've gotta do more...
hyptosis - thank ye
rayk - thanks, i'm the only person i know of that enjoys drawing in that kind of situation, sometimes moreso than when i have an ideal drawing environment...
daily doodles. zombies on the brain. rarrr
life drawing tonight but i'm supa tired so i dunno what the results will be like~![]()
Man, I'm jealous of all the life drawing time you're getting, it's payin off too. Try and get more out of your line, try not to "search" for your lines too much, you'll get more confidence in your stroke that way.
Keep up this pace man, its comin along!
Cool stuff man. Glad to see that you're working so hard. Make sure your proportions stay on track, and that your characters feel gravity, a few look like they're tipping. eidt: concentrating on line is good once you've got the form, but the shape is way more important. I guess as long as you do both you'll get better faster.

Andy P - Thanks. Always more work to do on line
Blue Severin - Yeah, gotta work on rhythm, i think i'll go through that section in bridgeman again soon. Value and line is a constant struggle
guitarjames - thanks. When i doodle i mainly just mess around trying to remember anatomy/proportion/structure and apply it to fun stuff. Gotta keep my creativity sharp. I'm sure i'll churn out a full page of faces sometime soon
Just for the cumulitive information, i post very few of my doodles here these days. I've filled about 100 pages of that brown sketchbook, and only a few are on here... although i post them when i don't have time for other projects. Here's some figures for you. I was super tired... like zombie tired. Still I think i got some okay drawings.
Also for the cumulitive information, i never get more than 30 minute poses. My teacher tends to enjoy fast poses more. So, uh, no cool finished drawings unfortunately.

yo,
my favrouite are the man wiht the stick and the guy with clothes on.I think the you are making the lower muscle on the back of the leg bulge out on some off your drawings and some times your legs are too small.. something to keep in mind.
keep it up .james.

james - thanks, gotta keep working on legs. haha! sleep is never going to happen
Here's some of todays doodles, life drawing for you tomorrow morning...
wow man, i really love this stuff, you got so much better. hey we even used the same head tutorial : P your strokes have gotten way better and i love the horses! i want to see some of them colored! guess this sketchbook paid off huh!? keep pumpin em out, skies the limit.
jdeegz - thanks! Yeah i should work more on my animal skills, thanks for the encouraging words
life drawing. Last two were 30 minutes.
You're getting better man. Try to keep your shapes clean. In example, the seated man's right arm is really fuzzy edged, even though it's getting direct light and it's against the shadow. On the second 30 min, his left foot definitely needed more work, even if you just get the big shapes of light and shadow, screw the toes. Not too much wrong the seated man though, definite improvement.
You're an artist, not a meat camera. -Elwell
For portfolio purposes i would deffinitely include the Arm studies that are posted on the first page with the Horse that says "Yuck." They are great. I would also probably include the Horse.
For environments the only thing I'd put in is the Clouds and ocean on the first page. You dont want to over-do environments in a portfolio anyway. They are much more interested in figures.
These studies are good:

http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1159969822
For figures, you want to have about 80% quick studies and 20% long studies. They care more that you can get proportion, form, and posture down quickly. But they also want to see you can finish a piece.
I would also recoment not including any studies from anatomy or art books. I think i see some Hogarth stuff in there. Not that you shouldent be drawing stuff from books, but for a portfolio they realy dont want to see it. They are much more interested in how YOU approach a figure.
I'd leave all the face/portrait stuff out, and all the digital paint stuff out.
where are you looking to apply?
Looking good! I second Severin's comments. Also, the backgrounds on some of these look a bit distracting. I know charcoal is difficult to control when it comes to get an even value in a big surface, specially when you have such a short time. But maybe you could focus more on the figure construction and only indicate the areas in the background, so you could fill them up after your sessions. Just a thought.
Cheers man, and keep the pace (and get some sleep too)!
Blue Severin - Thanks, yeah i see what you mean. I may work on him some more for my portfolio
codenothing - thanks for the advice! although some of the stuff you said i should put in was from books, which i'm not going to put inStill, your opinion was helpful. I'm applying to calarts, art center in pasadena, and laguna college of art and design.
fedezz - thanks. Yeah, i mainly just focus on the part of the background that is near the figure, but i guess i should finish them more for finished pieces.
Another SP. Figure i should start getting into emotions.

that looks good yo, only crit is to level off the jaw and some darker darks, especially around the eyes.
hey whered you get the tanned paper? whats it called would probably help more haha
 lots of improvement since iV ebeen here last.
For your portfolio, what Ive heard are that people want to see life drawing, various traditional media( like chalk or oil pastel, or painting) of a wide variety of subjects.
Do some portraits from ref and put in the best one.
Overall, mix it up and make sure its your best work.
On the self portrait, push the values a lot more.
have a long hard look at your face and draw it as best you can.
Keep working on it bro!

Well, you look pissed off in that last spI guess that was the emotion you were looking to capture? Looks great, my only advice (already mentioned) is that you push the contrast a little.
Keep 'em coming!
. Your understanding of form is certainly increasing. Also, do keep an eye on line and value quality. Your lines are often too heavy and your darks muddy. Great work.
Hey man, nice stuff!
Life drawing are looking good, but the proportions get a bit wonky.
As for a potfolio, I think that depends on what you want it for, but if I get some time I'll try and dig up some tasty little articles on portfolios I've seen around the forums.
Keep it up!

blanquish - thanks for the help on portfolio and the crits!
fedezz - hehe yeah thats what i was going for. Will definately try to push contrast more next time
listing - thanks, i agree about my lines and my darks, gotta work on that.
cup of joe - Thanks, always working on proportions. I'm looking through your sketchbook but it may take me a while
here's that peer excercise. Better than the last time i tried it (long before my acct on here.)
great stuff in here dude. i'm seein some definate improvement from when you started. the enviros could use some work though. if i were to give any advice there i'd say to try workin from photos, thats how i got started on enviros was giving myself 10 minutes, or 20 minutes to try and look at a photo and reproduce it. it really helpe build up a library in my head of enviro-stuff. good place for environment photos is either www.corbis.com or www.gettyimages.com. anyway, keep it up.

Artzealot - thanks, i checked those sites out and they are pretty cool, i'll be sure to do some photo studies later when i have time
guitarjames - ahh once again you use my own crit against me!! thanks, will definately think more next time. the reason they look funky is because i cheated and just selected my spheres and did the blur filter for a quick gradation, but it looks stupid on the edges.
we'll call this one smug. was trying to incorporate last one's crits. 30 min graphite
You are getting some good work in with your study of bridgeman. It looks like you are starting to understand the anatomy but your proprtions are still off. Kinda looks like you are shortening things up a bit. Just keep working at it and drawing!!
