brentos8: Cheers, dude.
Colour study.
cool updates! the last sketch looks great! i like theese figures - they look real solid! keep pushing mate!
Josef K.: Thanks mang.
Nother colour study... Less successful than the last.
A piece of fan art...![]()
Several updates ago, thatfatkid told you to finish something. Where is that piece?
I like the light valued desaturated colors in that Chrono. Since they're so close in value and saturation all the work is left to the lines and shapes. I think the hands could be a little bigger, make sure the near hand is bigger than the farther. The face could be a little more oval, too make it a little closer to the source material. He's twisted at the waist so you have to figure out a way to show that, take pictures, find examples in other artworks. I think this would be a good piece to finish. Get the foreshortenings to read clearer, make the knee point to the viewer, get that hand to face where it needs to, keep track of the main surfaces, back of the hand, the sides, the sides of the fingers.

Max Challie: I dunno, lol.
armando: I wasn't gonna work on it anymore, but I have to now or it would be a waste of your great critique.
Some more studies for today...
No they are not April fool jokes.
You've progress so much since the last time I seriously looked through your sketchbook! Wow!!!
The studies are looking great, man. Really great.
You're doing what you need to do. Keep it up - learn from every second!
Gave you some well deserved stars. Gonna check back in more often!

Hey, great progress here, like the sense of 3-d in your studies. I'd say you can play a bit with edges on b/w studies, perhaps keeping values smoother.Keep on!
Great work, awesome studies and digital paintings. Keep it up man.

haven't showed my face here in a while - nice! You did your first color study of the page, with the train, in painter? using acrylics or oils? really cool, more with that type of focus is sure to help you a ton.
The last girl feels nice and solid. a bit more variety in the darks would make it even more convincing - just creating some shadows that are darker than others as naturally happens (pubic area, under arms) to pop other areas out, but of course they could have been really even in the ref!
pretty nice hands overall - most of the main shapes feel good enough that the minor off parts aren't as important. where the thumb attaches seems to lack suggestion on a few.

Loving the colour/value studies bro, that train up there is killing me! Some neat subtle values on the nude study too!
Jakers: Cheers dude. Yeah, I find thumbs pretty tricky. The train was done in Paint Tool Sai.
Pinflux: Cheers brada!
Tiny update. Studying some armour 'coz I can't draw it for my life.
Won't be much in the way of studies for awhile, got two flash game projects goin', which will hopefully be completed.
1. Still life. My god, cylindrical objects are a pain.
2. Concepts for some guys making a game mod.
3. Illustration for the Art by Community activity on Gurney's blog.
hey Dan
I think you could have pushed that study further. Just take all the time you need to get the proportions right before moving on to rendering (which in this case also looks like it could have had more work).
I'm probably wrong, but I think it's better to make the most of each study than to just do them all the time. Quantity has its place too, but if you don't go too deep into any studies, you won't learn what you could from going that deep.
..i think
Cool stuff here, loving them armour studies^^Keep it rocking with the socks!

Max: Thanks for your thoughts. Generally I try to push myself to do the most I can in a short amount of time with studies.
'Going deep' is just a matter of polishing everything up and filling in the details, which to me is not very interesting.
Mischeviouslittleelf: Thanks man, appreciate it.
'Nother still-life. Still don' really understand how to make highlights pop.![]()
hey man! awesome updates. love your not an april joke figure studiessolid work! the bar-scene looks great - has a lot of potential - hope you'll finish that one
![]()

Check out my sketchbook!! http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...=703571&page=4
Hey HunterKiller_ - Max has a good point. You would benefit a lot from doing some longer studies. It may not be fun but it makes you way faster and more accurate in the long run. You're not in a race, you're trying to learn, and if you don't spend a significant amount of time really understanding what you're seeing, your speed is not going to matter. The things I think you could benefit studying a bit more in depth are proportion/accuracy and form. Form (which is really a study of how light describes an object's 3-dimensional shape) is the thing one *really* needs to spend a good long time on to understand it. Rendering and detail may not be what gets you excited, but doing a few very long still lifes instead of all quickies will make your quickies so much more believable.
Really you're very far along and all the basic stuff is well learnedStopping for some longer studies is probably what will help you most at this point.
Josef K.: Thanks dude. Get to it!
monotony: Cheers.
seetsy: Thanks for viewing.
nonie: You and max are right. I've been told numerous times in the past to 'spend longer' on each piece of art, but I guess I never really took it to heart.
Much appreciated!
A 'longish' study.(screenshot from Blackhawk Down)
I'm gonna try get my room setup so I can do some decent long still life studies.
Ah, that poor solider been hit. Man down!
That spoon study rocks.
Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!

Pigeonkill: It didn't occur to me that the solider was shot, I thought he was throwing something, lol. I guess getting shot makes more sense.
Did a massive clean up of my room so now I've got some space setup for still life studies.
NICE studies man, going flaming awesome.
