and these are some really really recent digital paintings that i did these past few days... there still all WIPs soo...

i LOVE how the pic on here continues onto the other page. and the first image is lovely in terms of rendering and lighting....and the mech bird is pretty cool. no crits yet from me!

hey jair nice portrait studies. your rendering is greatly improved. nice maine pic too. id like to see you push the highlights on the toned paper sketches. some of the older ones look a little flat, but the new ones are good. i like the dark darks in the eyes.

Your sketches are really inspiring. You've got a great grasp on value! You like headphones a lot, and its intriguing to see certain things carry on throughout your work. The toned paper stuff is my favorite of all!

jonton, Goog, Darktwin, Tigermilk- wow, thanks all for the nice comments... seems like ppl are more into the pencil stuff although the digital werk is what im trying to improve upon... but thanks abunch

Denart its about time! ...i hope your all cozey inside your new apartment! yeah montreal did help i knew jus about everything they taught i guess i jus needed to see it in person... and yes i am def inspired by HPX...

RNS yes, i do love to do headphones... because somtimes on my freetime i like to use "turn-tables" and mix beats... also because sometimes i get lazy and i dont want to draw in the the ears.... heh

here is a sketch that i did in the cleveland metro parks today during my bike ride...

this is a massive WIP that i jus "wiped out" then i quickly realized that the comp is divided and all screwy im thinkin of cutting it in half and doing two seperate images, what do u think? ill proly not even touch it past today... heh.... creating compisitions is somthing i need to werk on....

Hey now,
your pencil work is fantastic!

The digital medium seems to take a bit longer to get used to (a lot longer in my case). I'm having some difficulty making the switch from traditional stuff (my beloved pencils/conte and paper) to the new toys (wacom, painter9, photoshop). But I recon the more you do it the more confortable you get with.

Looks like with your digital stuff you might think about where to add detail and emphasis and where to leave things less defiined.
For example, the left half of your big ol WIP is really interesting because of the detail, it draws the eye in, even though it looks farther away than the stuff the right side (the figures and big blob o' lava), which are closer, yet look less defined/looser...
I know, its a work in progress...

but really, it aint that bad at all. It might indeed make two really strong pieces if you cut it down the middle. or you might want to try switching the sides (put the left on the right) and looking at it, might help, or give you some ideas

I have to keep reminding myself that it is just a matter of learning to work in a new way. Once the comfort level goes up with the digital stuff and it isn't so new anymore, should be able to use it just like any other medium you know well,

wow, man... did u say your first year?? Shit man..... I feel sooooo sucky now... You have great skills for a freshman... I love that drawing of Cleveland metro parks... I can instantly tell that you are heavily influenced by some of the superstars from this forum... dont be scared to do what your good at (which seems to be observational drawings) but, add what you like or would like to be good at on them.... So, if your drawing a portrait but, wanted to create a character.. draw that portrait and just alter it... Keep on updating this SB man.. I just cant even imagine how good you'll be in threee more years... scary!

These are really nice Jair. I'm a fan of the atmosphere in this one. Very Terminator-ish. I thought you were a ghost on the forums, and then like a week ago I saw you started a new thread. Your renders are solid, definetily the photo reference helps. I like to take photo's and see how much I can manipulate them-for instance, use only the lighting of the image, or a singular characteristic of the image. You should try that. If you're using photo's in your enviro's, they definitely mesh well. Really nice drawings and renderings overall. (I hate the word rendering-its kind of a derogitory term for drawing) which is why I'm calling your renderings Et Pholirhino's henceforth. ? One last comment before I go, in the only area I consider a strength. The color schemes are all relatively the same in the enviro's (the blue monochromatic one's with red highlights). Get inspired from a photo or other art, remember that color schemes aren't copywrited. Anyway, I've tried doing some landscapes lately with really bizarre color schemes. They're much more enjoyable to produce I've found. all right I'm done with you bitch. Now go draw until I say otherwise. *hugs*

vigostar- yeah good idea that is something that ive started to do with some of my pencil renderings... im trying more and more to use the photo ref but not rely on it too much...
strych9ine- yeah that is my fav. SP but my school has it hangin up right now but as soon as i get it back im gunna take a picture of it! ..but im glad you liked it!
Spraynation- soo true i need to werk with my landscapes more and become more diverse... ive actually been looking at National Geographics for inspiration!
