Dan's sculpturos: new dragon to gawk at Aug 7

This is my second time embracing Super Sculpey (not the last time hot-damn!)
and my first time using it with a wire base underneath. The character is called Croaker Norge and is the intellectual property of Tubby Fleck at http://www.meatdynamo.net/ Without further delay, the pictures:

As for critique, I know it's very rough, I still don't have any alcohol or turpentine, etc, for brushing on to smooth it out. And, I carved out the wrinkles even though I would be painting them blue, which was a hassle. So that aside, I'm open to anyone's opinions about this. I hope you like it as much as I do. 8)

Very Nice. Looks good. I like the detail. I know how hard it is to do on a small sculpt.

Time for a new piece (this can just be the 1 thread for posting works, makes sense)
I started with this:

and then I ripped off all the sculpey, added more wire and foil to strengthen so I could repose and try again, now I have this:





I'm happy with the base, and I'm thinking of painting him green red and white, watermelon! (his big round head will have one big eye)

Almost done painting:


His eyes are going to be red with a whie center. I'm stuck betwen one big eye or a triangle of 3 small ones. I will be sketching today and if anyone with photoshop or the like feels like taking these pics and doodling some eyes on them (1 or 3) that would be super cool and give me a different viewpoint.

Good strong pose..I like him...but looking at your graphic style I might have spent more time smoothing with rake tools and clay softener by Sculpey or isoprophyl alcohol...starting w/ a coarse brush/tool and moving down to smooth...this will give you a nice and smooth surface ready for baking and paint...
~I like one eye or why not six spider eyes; 3 on running along each side ..could be sweet either way!~

Thanks much for the feedback shadowgarden. It's nice to know there are greater talents watching. Alas I am deprived of any tool that could be considered rake-like and I don't have any wonderful chemicals like isoprophyl alcohol (which I first heard of in smellybug's tutorial)
Is it something I should head straight to an art store for or is it available for more practical uses at, say, a hardware store? Either way, I will look into it because as you said it goes with my style.

isoprophyl alcohol is regular run of the mill rubbing alcohol you should beable to find it at any supermarket or drugstore...though can be quite costly anywhere between 97 and 99 cents ...if you use sculpey or any oil based clays i definetely recommend it...the higher the percentage the stronger the effects(just like in real life) from 50-99%

alright so I brought together a few things; sculpey with armature (I'm still new at it), this idea I've had writen down for a while, and these new tools I bought.
The result:a lava dragon

Here's a detail shot I'm happy with:


And lastly, a pre-paint shot:


The whole deal's 6 inches tall.
I etched in the scales with a screwdriver for the most part (the diamond pattern)
I couldn't have done it without the helpful hints I've gotten here. I do need to find some stronger alcohol. I didn't pay attention to the % (75) and it does nothing to the sculpey.
I've already done an armature for the next one, a burned-out salamander, it's about 4" long! I'll try to document it a bit this time!

hey man, i'm really impressed with your dedication, and yes, rubbing alcohol. The only reason I know what it is is because I use it for tattooing. aaanyway, keep up the good work and I'm excited to see the "burned-out salamander"
