still not enought stuff to judge really, but the I really like the first one.The second isn't as good, the anatomy looks "fake" especially in the chest area, and the whole thing looks flat.Keep practicing, do gesture studies, any kid of anatomy studies.Keep this SB updates and you'll improve in no time.Make sure you check out the basic, Loomis books and stuff of the sort can really help.Keep it up

    ciao

thx for the pointers man! About the Loomis books, can you buy them online and if so from where? Ive got a few books on anatomy, but they only show sketches of the artists works rather than teach. Ive been working from them, but the work ive done from them isn't great. I'll be attending a life drawing class fairly soon, which should help me considerably. Thanks again Gnoll, crits of people like yourself are only a good thing. If you dont mind me asking, what books have you worked from or are you self tought? Sorry for all the questions by the way.pld:

: | you cant buy the loomis books (cause they discontinued publishing them_... and the original place..where you can get the online file.. of the loomis books.. well thats gone too.. i think you can find the link of where they are..if you run a search on the forum..... you can find a link of someone thats hosting them.

but look through out the forum..there are alot of things to learn here...
    good luck :3

    Random doodles, meh

Some fan art, Mullock the Glukkon from Oddworld

I have mixed views about this one, but horrible anatomy. Must study harder!

My garden, done whilst sitting in the sun. Good weather in this country is hard to come by, so i took advantage.

More character designs done in marker

Hope you like! Comments & crits welcome as ever. Cheers!

You can find Loomis book hosted around the net, I can't give a direct link.Make sure you also check out stuff by Hogart.Thank you for the very kind words
Keep up life drawing, and attend those life classes, they should be great practice (i never tried)>Some training DVDs by Gnomon Workshop are great too, but quite expensive.
ABout the posted stuff, things like the little head ortho in he upper right corner of the first pic are the excercises you should do.Keep it up n posted

(the last marker heads look way too similar to the ones in the first post.Keep 'em varied, photo ref should help )

    cia

Finally managed to get to a scanner to give an update. Im doin lots of anatomy work at the moment as i feel thats my weakest area. I'll update with some of that stuff when i feel ive got enough to show. Not the best scans. but they'll have to do for now.By the way, thanks Gnoll for the suggestion about the Loomis books. I managed to get hold of them, so thanks alot man! A crap load of sketching and reading awaits me, hehe. Anyway here goes...
    A Dan Milligan inspired creature

Practicing drawing heads. Ive just realised i have a cigarette fetish within my drawings. I add them to everything i do lol, oh well.

    eyes and more eyes

I just bought a brush pen, so i thought id give it a go. I like the gestural look they have.

Late night doodle of a soldier

lol, same with me, just that i have an earring fetish

The last one looks very good actually, apart from that thing coming down from its ear, but i can see you actually tried some construction before going into detail, and thats good.Same thing applies to the soldier head.Start with the loomis studies (btw, what book did you find?), you can't be wrong with them. He'se got an excellent teaching method, but make sure you don't get it wrong by copying what he does.If necessary, sit in front of it for days until you actually understand it, and make sure you ALWAYS think of shapes in psace, the way they react to light, their weight, before you go into detail phase.
    Keep up the good work

    ciao
