I really, really enjoyed designs and characters and ideas and style and crazyess and basically, everything!
Great progress from the beginning, you just really inspired me to draw more sketches (i will do so immediately after i finish this writing)
It is a really shame that you don't yet have your stars, i think it is because people usually look more into rendering than style and overall cohersion of work, i gave you 4
Stuff you need to do is little speedpaint-rendering practises, your drawing skills are better than your painting so if you got your painting in order you really start to rock
ps: How did you learn your anatomy, what are your practise methods?
EDIT: hmm it seems you had you stars after all, wonder why it didn't show up before...

Nettle Mountain (great name btw): I try not to care too much about the stars, so don't sweat it. I like getting lots of comments lots more anyway.
About anatomy, i guess what skill i have in it is the results of lots and lots of model classes. Studying the bones and muscles is pretty vital too. And i really love drawing naked people too, that helps enormously as well. Try doing short thumbnails poses, always a good exercise. I'll have to take you up on the painting advice, it's something i've been too lazy about lately.
And while i'm at it, here's two more things in the clogged and overful pipeline:
You most certainly are showing great improvement and skill!!!
You've come along way since the first couple of post.
Keep it up!

Slechtvalk: Thanks, i hope i can still keep on improving my skill.
Here's two landscapes. I was going to do five by today, but i've spent the time on model classes, long autumn walks and alcohol. So the the sun has set up by now and my gusto seems to have done so too. Well, maybe ...
Three more landscapes. All of them from ref.
You're definitely starting to come into your own now. May we see the referenced photos for your enviros (if they were from photos that is)? We'd be better equipped to critique your work then.
Try doing some referenced life studies from people with more dynamic poses and also try drawing more animals. When working with more dynamic poses, really take the single flow of motion into consideration (usually a Line of Action that represents the spine in many cases). Keep practicing those types of poses and you'll start to "loosen up" your drawing style, which'll help your drawing greatly overall.
You're improving pretty substantially, keep up the good work... and by the way: Working hard at art is all well and good, but don't be ashamed about the alcohol and walks that you said you were taking before. If you work too much on something that you love doing, you'll eventually become unenthusiastic about it. Make sure you don't kill your own enjoyment from over-exhaustion.
good work on landscapes! Like really the first and second one
If a critique maybe a slightest bit soft at some parts, sharper edges could do the trick there and there.

Blightedart: I'll keep your advice in mind, my thanks for it. As for people studies, i'm doing that on a regular basis. I'm putting some sketches in this post. Plus, i'm putting up the originals from the enviros.
Netlle: Hey man, this was a fun thing to do! Let's do it again! I'll watch my edges next time ...
So, like i said, some figure studies. Originally A3 (first five are roughly A4), pencil on Canson sketchpad.
One more character to draw, and all three to paint up. The two portraits were just for fun.
The lifedrawings are wonderful, especially the inked piece, you get a feel for the line in there. I also like the sketchy ideas you uploaded earlier. Might do that myself, when I have abit more confidence in what I do.
My sketchbook, if you really want to see it...
"Picasso is a painter, so am I;... Picasso is Spanish, so am I; Picasso is a communist, neither am I." - Salvador Dali
Damned nice sketches, that woman expecially! i have to start trying to draw clothes and stuff for my character sketches, seeing your pictures i feel this is something i really lack
Finish them soon, wanna see!![]()

Hey Nettle! I really ought to finish one of my sketches, but it helps to have people begging for that to happen. :p

enthombed: Thanks man.
Here's for some more slightly rampant nudity:
For a challenge, five rendered sketches by today. I'm on time!

Sick stuff mister, i would have sweared those poses were life studies... i really have to take real life drawing classes as well when i get to finland, my characters are so stiff still...
And latest challenge, I really love that man with a sword, the desing is complete whole as a sum of it parts, interesting and different. Only critique is the light is little too much daylight, like on the day with clouds front of the sun , i am allways a sucker for clear & strong light shadow contrast and a clear direction of light
impressed again

bigfooTrooper: Thanks man. I'll keep trying my best!
Nettle: The big model drawings are from a live model, obviously. The little ones, well it helps if you look at a lot of p.. er nude references. About the warrior, i'll keep your comment in mind in case i'm going to colour him someday.
One for today. Slaved away over it friday afternoon, i don't think i ever put so much time into a pencil drawing before.
i really like the clean lines, expression on th face and concept here, to nitpick: her right leg seems to be little weird, like she is not having her weight on it but floats and shadows are right from the up so it makes her look little flat
I wonder what you will do when you got your shadow-light direction together with the eye for details you make![]()

the "underatree" scene is beautiful!
would love to see a painting of that.
ditto about 'underatree,' tis gorgeous. your pencils are great, as are your life drawings further up, which I really really like.

Nettle: You're right about the foot, i know i had some trouble with that. Maybe if i added a hint of heel?
monotony & wookie: I have been thinking of painting up that sketch, but i'd like to keep penciling for a while to get a real good grip of my values. I'm proud of how i did the tree in that one btw.
adammelo: I never got round to doing anything with that one on account of the comp being so boringly frontal and symmetric. But i still like it for some reason and i'm glad you do too. (Even though it's ancient)
Here's some invertebrae:
my favorite is the spider…well beetle…since it got only 4 legs it must be a very new speciesthe thing i like about it is that it has an almost metallic appearance! cool! the second looks fluffy, but it somehow works! I like the concept.
so lets see whats next, shall we?
That bluish tint on crab is really neat, like that one and solidity of spider one. I also like the use of air perspective in limbs of crab, it is good thing in opencanvas when trying to separate overlapping forms. (i use it everywhere)
I first was little hmmm with middle picture but it actually did grow one me after little looking, i quess the thing what bugges me is that colours of tail, tube and lover "tail" doesnt connect into body too well. Maybe because colour values are lighter in those parts than in middle body?
Do you use tools for colour adjusting? I would recommend trying: selective colour and colour balance, you can deepend and mix colours together in painting with these tools. I tried to make a fast example (bad one) about use of these tools by using your picture here, Experiment will tell if this is for you, idiot apathy uses these as well when making his enviroments, i think you can find example about use of these in his highquality videodemo here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...=56810&page=39
hope this helps even little bit:

Hey Nettle, that does look better. I do tend to use those colour adjusters though.
Trooper: What's next? this is next:
