Nice sketchbook, man. Those pencil sketches look really good. I like the fluidity of your line. Maybe you could push one fur study even further, cause they're quite sketchy still. Play with edges more.

    Yo Mr. Nut

What's work been like lately on your foreshortening? Your figures seem to be of the easy variety lately (all limbs seen from the side, etc).

Digital rendering seems to be coming along.

Hey Mr. Sage! (That sounds so much better, damn!) Foreshortening you want and foreshortening you shall have, but first i'm a gotta do me some object studies. So expect more nudity for educational purposes soon

I can only admire your dedication to attempt still lifes. I- I just can't stand them, even though they're good learning tools.

Anyways, I really can't crit you. You're always posting delicious figures in lively poses and really interesting concepts. Just keep up the good work, mate!

Hello Naidy, to tell the truth i really hate still lifes too. But i promised Nettle Mountain i'd do them and so i did. I really got that warm fuzzy level up feeling from doing these though, so i would recommend gritting your teeth and getting in to one.

As for these pages, they're just here to keep this thread alive. I'll try posting some nicer things later this week:

Og fuck my post was just deleted, well kind of.. Anyway tomorrow i will post the monster i really hope...

Anyway here we go again: Great job on those still lives! the last with bottle and skull is really sharp improvement!

Two tips in still lives/character digital paintings:

1: Use silhouette selection around character/object. You will only paint inside the selection so edges will be really nice and sharp, you can allways later soften them if in need.

2: Unsharp mask: Use this with mask tool. Make it visible in areas you want your viewer see, like face and chest area of the character, or other in object.

Example of these techniques are my onion still life, used selection around onion to have sharp edges, and lastly used unsharp mask with mask to make it sharper on upper middle of onion.

Ps: am i going to see your monster today??? or tomorrow!!? the pressure, can't wait...

Nettle: You can see the monster now! Well, the sketch at least, my computer was occupied tonight s you'll have to wait for the coloured version a little more. Keep the faith! Thanks for the tips btw, i still have the tendency to just old school paint all that stuff. Cheers, and see ya around!

Hi there, i think your concept itself is really nice but you did pick hard lightining situation to show it's form. The light from side left is good for showing silhouette of the character but it leaves the form completely dark in torso of the character. I think more ideal lightning situation would have been to use overhead lightning, like the blue arrow in picture.

    Name: talon_knight_pffft2.jpg
Views: 473
Size: 64.5 KB

In this paintover i did put blue light (like moon or blue sky) to come over character to show it's form little more.

Other thing is that if you look your studies from photographs and still lives, notice how all the objects are either dark forms in light backround or light forms in dark backround. Dark form in light backround would be the cat, buddha and vase you painted, light forms in dark backround is the final still life where bottle/skull are light in dark backround.
You did make your dark character in dark backround so i did put a lighter backround against it to show silhouette.
Anyway hope this is interesting and you don't mind making paintover, we have to make next challenge soon

    takashmen: thanks dude!

This is part of the update, but i have to finish up my current sketchbook AND try to make decent photographs of it. So that's probably not for this week.
Btw, if anyone has any crits to give on the first sketch in the last post, don't be shy . That one's supposed to turn into a bonafide illustration. Thanks in advance!

i see me a samus there and also, is that orianna somewhere there too?
and i love love the first illustration in the first of the last 2 updates, with the bodies dangling down! i dont really have any crits on that one except i wanna see it finished D:
and i do really love your gestures with lots of arms and legs but the blacker lines doesnt really have the same quality and feels rushed and ruins the picture a bit
and, more love, that little dragon/ogre/monster creature is ubercute
