man this is a seriously amazing sketchbook man. great progress from the beginning until now. Very inspirational man. keep posting please.
Wow, I really love the recent environments, they look fantastic.
I like your new avatar. XD
holy shit! is this what happens when you quit IRC? I think I need to give that a try!
I haven't seen your work in a while, but hot damn, these environments are really quite impressive!
naRai:thank you!
MeTaL-Mike: Glad you like my little sb.
Té-Can: Cheers, yeah I thought it was time to get a new avatar (that can resizes easily)
Texahol: Thanks mate! Yeah... I haven't been on irc for a really long time....
Okay some updates, last EOW (starting on latest one tomorrow, watched blade runner today for first time haha).
I think I finished this one.. well for now anyway.
Gotta finish this tomorrow:

wow such a nice update, love the first one.good work dude, keep rocking!![]()
Last couple of updates rock out of control! Values on the mountains in the one with the mansion looks a little too jumpy to me. Other than that they are fantastic - keep up the good work!
Hey mate
Awesome stuff here, my favourite is the close up pic of the Buddhist temple.
I've got a crit on the beach scene. I think the perspective on the rock cliff on the left where it meets the water is out.
The cliff nearly goes back to the horizon but it is quite big still and appears to be a mid ground element.
I think if it went that far back to the horizon line it should be affected more by atmosphere.
Or if it is solely a mid ground element the line where it meets the water should stop lower in comparison to the horizon.
Keep it up mate, they are lookin sweet!
I just looked at your sketchbook from the beginning to now and I am amazed at the progress you've made!

atlantik: Thank you!
Fishspawn: Glad you like the update! Hmm it looks fine from what I see. Do you get a really sharp dark in relation to other values? Because I've noticed some lcds (apple screens in particular) tend to be super bright and the black/darker values look too separated then what they should be (my screen is calibrated), so some values look like they shift too rapidly. Not sure if that's the problem.
gep:Hey Nathan, long time no see, hope everything is going good with you! That rock is mid-fore ground element, but I'd don't understand what you mean by the water line should stop lower?
Brat: Thank you!
Lotet: Cheers,
K, some stuff!
And latest EOW84, blade runner tribute (first time I saw blade runner haha)

Yeah maybe its not the value that's off on that one... i think its just that the edge that separates the shadow from the light needs more edge variation - its all one hard edge. Latest update is awesome! Good to see you posting with some regularity again, and with 100x the skill as before![]()
Your enviromental works are brutal. They make me think of the concept designs in the bonus section of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune ya ever heard of it ? It's a really awesome game with some really sexy bonus concept art
hp: Thanks! Your're the second person who told me that. I haven't actually played Mist or Riven (I've heard about them though, were pretty popular when they came out)
Fishspawn: Ahh! I see, yeah the values do jump a little in some places haha.
Jelluh: Yeah, I've heard/seen the game. Sadly I don't have a PS3 (or any other console) so I haven't played it. Thanks!
Well some updates... two versions (any feed back appreciated). I still need to detail up the mountains I think, to make them look less abstract.
Second version (edited)

Damn it man your enviros kick my butt so hard, keep that up, georgeous colors man!
Damn ray, you're getting amazing.
algenpfleger:Thank you, your sb has some damn nice paints!(so don't think mine are that good ^^
Hyptosis: Hey man! Long time no see! Your character stuff is getting better too, love to see some more enviros haha. Cheers!
Well, this weeks EOW - Cloud castle... (I'm really tired looking at it haha ^^; ). Next few will have more character stuff! Well I'll try anyway

Hey rayk. Awesome job on that one, I really like all of the foreground elements and the clouds. The only thing that bugs me is the transparency of the castle. It looks like you painted the sky first and then used a transparent brush to put the castle over it.
I've noticed this effect before in your work, but it only really bugs me in this one. I think it would be much better if you only used that effect for dark foreground elements and for distant objects you used a solid brush and just match the color closely to the sky with some soft edges.
It's mostly just the two front-and-center wings of the castle that bug me. I hope I was clear in explaining what I meant ^_^; Anyway awesome job, I'm looking forward to those character paints![]()
Awesome work, i've flicked through most of your sketchbook and it's great how much you've improved. Your enviroments really have alot of mood in them. How often do you do lifedrawing a week, seems alot?![]()
Fishspawn: Hey Wes! Thank you for the great feedback, I touched up the castle on the version on my site. No character paints this update though.... orz
StolenSky: Thank you! I used to life drawing 3 times a week, but this year I haven't a chance to do any until this week. There can never be enough life drawing
Well, I had life drawing on monday (found a new group yay!) I've that I really rusted up, so hopefully I had a good warmup and will be able to post some life drawing next week.
Anyway, this weeks EOW, I punched it up from the initial version. But it still feels a little lacking. (btw, is the url too visible? should I tone it down a tad more? thanks in advance !)
![]()
url doesn't bother me at all...it makes it look more finished actually IMO.
i think you could still add some more depth to it with some clearer rock thingies in the foreground.

hp: Ah, cool that's good to know! Thanks for the crit, I'll get those rocks to read better.
Well a WIP update, jungle sewers. Hoping to get this done soon.

Awesome enviros!!The one inspired in Blade Runner is...OMG!!
Great work, it fascinates me how you work with transparencies. And how did you draw the vegetation around the pipes? It looks really nice.
good stuff aas always.=)
Hey Pavel
You are just hammering these environments, awesome work mate. Cloud castle and the jungle sewers are smokin’
I’ve done a quick paint over of your beach pic to show you what I was talking about regards to the perspective issue. Hope you don’t mind.
In your original I think it looks like your large cliff face goes along way off in to the background along the bottom but not at the top.
On the first two attached versions I have moved the top of the cliff face to head towards the same vanishing point as the base of the cliff face.
The third image I left the top of the cliff face appearing nearer and moved in the base of the cliff from the horizon to make it look more like a mid ground element.
Hope this makes sense and was helpful.
great environments! its also great to see your progress, u definitely learned tons of things since u made this sketchbook... What about some characters? im curious how ur character designs are(if u do those)

Nice to see you working on those enviros. It has been a while since i've posted here so time for the daily asspatting. Your jungle sewer looks really nice !!!
