kallisti: Ok yeah, I need to shift some focus back on characters!

Well saturday is the hardest day to submit work, as I work the whole day to come home feeling drenched out off energy. Please pardon my tonight's drawing, I'll paint over when I get a chance. Must keep submitting daily.

Fishspawn: Yeah those are a bit hard to read, they are meant to be some white floating artefact things.

Punchy: Haha, yeah - unlike the people the trash can actually stays still .
guitarjames: I only ever use a ruler for the horizon line and border(for A4 sized stuff), sometimes for main perspective lines other. Otherwise it's all freehand, but yeah will try move curvier lines.

Todays stuff, guy kept moving around . Otherwise I think I burned myself out a bit, hope I can draw through it quickly. (exams at end of the week are adding to it).

To stop your "models" from moving around too much I advise you to tie them up. Gives pretty good results I must say... although then they might turn out really static *whoops I gave my secret away*.

Anyway, I'd like to see your lines cleaner and less "hairy"-looking all over. Reserve that to show movement/texture. Also, remember about different pressures you can apply to the pencil.

I know how you feel about being burnt out; happens with everyone I guess. It's really hard to be productive every day, especially since drawing is not monkey work [as opposed to the common belief].

Although I guess that terminology could be applied to my drawings.

Kaoru: Yeah, it's mostly hairy cos they move so much, so I get sometimes only a few seconds to get as much down as I can. Thanks , I'm trying to work on line weight!
    Machineabuse: Whahaha yeah....

Sorry for lack of updates, yesterday I had 2 exams and I had my final one today. I've still been drawing though.

    Hey,
life sketches are nice, boat is a little too saturated, could use a little more contrast. On the life sketches try not to get too caught up in detail ,try to use as few lines as possible.
    Good luck with exams.

    keep it up .james

Damn man. Damn. Love love love that little boat.

You might experiment with 'dirtying' up your canvas a bit - just on a normal layer set to low opacity (mess with the opacity), color pick different colors from the canvas and with some low coverage texture brushes. Adds a lot of quick visual interest and nixes the digital feel. /ramble

That last enviro is sweet. Has good value and color depth going on. Keep working those life drawings. You should be looking for shapes, not people. Accurate shapes will look like people.

    hey,
Looks good, the hair look as if its swaying in the wind too much compared too the sheets on the line , if anything the should be swaying more. Also when doing watercolours sometimes its nice too add a grey marker over them to just push the values a bit more.

    keep it up .james

Illust for today. Generally happy but I lost the focus of it mid way (more like couldn't find one at the start).

    Optimus_Rodney: Thank you.
hp: Thanks! I checked out Tales or Earthsea. Looks pretty interesting, but I've been a bit disappointed in Howl's mowing caste, so hopefully Ghibili has picked up his act and made some thing good.

Wow, I have 4 stars now.... Thank you! I still feel like such a big n00b though.

Sorry for not updating yesterday. I burned myself out and hit a slump. I still drew some stuff yesterday but. This is today's illust, some how I killed it... Think got hung up on details, well gotta keep moving (and pushing through the art slump).

I go away for a week and you get all amazing... geez. Great job using darks and textures in these paints man, really amazing transition you made there. Not much to crit, all i can say is keep drawing from life as well, and i'd like to see some more bridgeman studies to help with your blocking in the figure.

That last couple of enviros are kickass!! However, I think you have too much contrast in those. I mean, you never have such dark values in an outdoor pic, because of the reflected light bouncing everywhere. Just tweak your darker dark so they're not that dark, and make them a little more chromatic, probably very influenced by a blueish hue result of the reflected light from the sky.
    Cheers!

Here, I used the replace color tool in PS to clarify my critique. There's a lot of artifacts showing up due to the original compression of the pic, but I hope it illustrates my point.
