Yeh life sketches are good , water colour to , dont be afraid to go wild on values, also dont use black for shadows but use a dark colour or two oposite colours mixed.
keep it up.james

Me likes the girl profile from the life drawings. I suck at watercolours, the only advice I could give you is that you have to be as bold as you can with them. Try using the broadest strokes possible.
Keep it up!
Fishspawn:どうもー!That was my 4th time using water colours, so I'm still playing around with them.
guitarjames: Ok I see, thanks for the advice. I'm still in the stage of playing around with water colour
fedezz: Cheers!
Well I bought Cotman water colours - sketchers pocket box today, so will have more water colours later (I've been told hard stuff is better then tubed and also (windsor and newton made) cotman is better quilaty then reeves). So that's going to be an interesting one to see.
Today is more tormenting of civilians with my sketching!

lol i like the naratives, the woman on the bench is my fav .(probably cause she stayed still the longest.)The blocks of colour would be better for sketching with ,saves having to carry somthing to mix on,and i had a go and they were defanitley better. With water colours use light first then put in the darker values ,thats what i do anyway.
keep it up .james

I know next to nothing about watercolors, so i cant help you there :/ Life gestures are looking good, try to focus on the energy of the pose (i.e. the spine) and the emotion in the person, above detail. I like the narrative as well, makes it entertainingMy figure class is almost over, so soon i'll be rocking the enviros with you
![]()
Dtemp: Sure will!
guitarjames: Thanks for the advice.
Fishspawn: Ahh okay, looking forward to your enviros.
Jens: Thanks man, gonna get more enviros happening soon.
Well I have a presentation tomorrow, so hence the lack of commenting in your sb's. Also lack of good stuff to update with. I'll pop into your sb's tomorrow when I get home.
Well todays civilian art terrorism.

I like your bus stop sketches. I would recommend paying more attention to the overall lines of the figure, try to capture it in your mind. I know it's hard to draw when people are moving [and making death threats to you to stop drawing].
Oh, and try to leave more random white spaces in the watercolour - the paper is meant to "breathe" through the paint. Otherwise it's like plastic wrap covering the page.

Kaoru: Ahh thank you!! No one has made death threats yet XD. I just get certain looks some times, which make me write those comments in my moleskine.
guitarjames: Thanks man!
Ok, I'm bad... I didn't update yesterday although I did draw something. Was SUPER tied and had no energy left to scan it in and upload.
However much updates today!
Just a water colour practice on a drawing I did yesterday to warm up:
A present for certain some one(more water colour)
Umm a photo I took of my desk and photochopped XD (was really relaxing and fun)

Hey rayk, i really like the floading island. On the top one, keep the background desaturated a bit so it looks farther away, and maybe make the front darker. (i know you know this, but its hard to think about when working with a new medium, so i'm just reminding you to) Keep up the good work.
I really like how that floating stone turned out. just gonna repeat myself here, try using a wider brush for the background sky. And some more colour variation there could help.
Keep it up, your headed the right way!
cool stuff great environments/ landscapes/ thumbs...
and the people are better than mine too![]()
guitarjames: Disposable paper palette - it's 50 gsm paper that's in a shape of a pallet and wax coated.
Fishspawn: Yep! Water is a bit harder as you can't make anything lighter.
fedezz: Yeah, I don't really have a wider/bigger brush (gonna buy one)
kakapoopie: Thanks
Ok another enviro, coloured with water. I want to see if I can work some digital on top of it too!

Looking good, much better atmosphere on that one. Make sure to put some dark darks in the foreground when you digi it.
Fishspawn: Sure will
Well a copic enviro today. Looks better in real life >>....<< no really... Haven't worked with copics in a while, so gotta improve those too.

Looking good, cranking out work. I'd say the floating land images are the strongest. You need to develop your value depth it seems. In that last copic post, if you use you darkest darks in the sahdows of the foreground rocks, it would pop it considerably. Love the castle.

Dreamworker: Hey thanks man! I'm glad there is some sort of change happening in my work.
Burnt: Thank you, I'm going to keep pushing the water colours (thing is I learned to colour digitally so it's good to learn a trad way too).
guitarjames: Ok, just being my over protective self and not wanting to wreck the work by misplacing a dark value. Where's my ctrl + z????
Blue Severin: Seems values is my all around problem huh. Pencils too.
Thanks everyone for the great feedback! I'm currently doing an intensive course of japanese (13 week course done in 5), so hence the lack of my presence with the comments in your sb's. Very sorry!
Another copic enviro. Yay I put a character in it. Scanner botched it a tiny bit (ok, promise no more excuses).

wow. I'm digging your environments. I love that last one and the tree. keep em coming!! lol. and good luck with the class.
Punchy: Haha thanks! Yeah, I need luck ~_~... One more week to go, 3 exams.
Ok I've started a collab with my dear. Started by doing the sketch, it's gonna be a proper painting in the end.

Copics are looking good. Values are still a bit jumpy, but the (value) range of that media is really helping you. Try to translate that to your pencils.
Keep it up!
hey,
liek the last ones too ,with the values dont worry anout ruing you drawings because in the long run it will pay off.
keep it up .james.

I like the marker sketches, they are much more bold than your others. Still focus on atmospheric perspective and the placement of darkest darks, etc. And draw some more people from life, i enjoyed those sketches![]()
fedezz: Yeah copics are great for values, will do my best to get pencil same ability.
guitarjames: Oh, ok thanks!
Fishspawn: More people from life coming up

Great stuff, your jungle scenes always have a Secret of Mana kind of feel to them, it'd be cool to see you do a little more with your characters visually, like some armor pieces to give them bulk.![]()
